Hoping for more roasts
6 May 2024
As a fan of the comedy Central roasts I was stoked to see them making a comeback with the roast of Tom Brady

Jeff Ross is Jeff Ross - the only work he can't get are roasts but he does a fine job. Nothing special but it wouldn't be a roast without him

Nikki Glaser had a great set, and helped carry the show

But the true star of this was Tony hinchcliffe, joke after joke after joke like a machine gun and every single one landed. By far the best set of the night and it made the whole special for me

Kevin Hart does an okay job hosting but he's just not funny, and he brought the show down for it.

There were a couple surprises like Ron Burgundy (will Ferrell) and Kim Kardashian delivering a few solid jokes.

Overall it wasn't terrible, but too much of it fell flat. There were a few standout moments that made it worth watching but I'd only ever go back to watch Tony & Nikki.

Hope to see more roasts, and hopefully see Tony hosting!

Halo (2022– )
5/10
They massacred my boy
14 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If you don't know anything about halo, it's a decent sci Fi series. If you do... It's bad.

Everyone knew this series was doomed when the writers said "we never played the games or read the books and we're not going too. We're making our own timeline"

Halo has MANY games and books to pull storylines from - any of which would be great in an adaptation. However they decided to scrap all that and try and reinvent something that didn't need to be.

Chief immediately taking off his helmet and mostly keeping it off? No. Chief having romantic storylines? Also no. And Kwan, don't get me started.

There are lots of good bits in this series which is why I give it an average rating of 5/10, but they ruined a lot of what made halo, halo.

Had the series kept chiefs helmet on, had him voiced by Steve downs (the actual voice of chief) and just gone with the existing storylines everyone would have loved it. No question.

But Hollywood always wants to do their own thing and alienate all the fans, then blame the fans for not liking it.

This is halo - we don't want all the sappy forced romance. There's no need for it. And now we probably won't EVER get a good halo adaptation.

That '90s Show (2023– )
6/10
Not as good as that 70s, but not bad
19 January 2023
I'm not a fan of sitcoms in general but I have a lot of nostalgia for that 70s show because it was the first tv show I remember watching.

I had absolutely no expectations going into this as it's not my kind of show and if it weren't for that 70s show I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all.

However - red & kitty are just as great as they were in the original, and every original cast member that isn't dead or *cough* on trial *cough* is in it.

The first episode starts off rocky and a bit cringe, but overall if you enjoyed that 70s you'll probably reminisce with this series.

Jokes are hit or miss, but I had a good laugh at least once an episode, which is more than I can say for most sitcoms.

Is it great? No. Will you like it if you didn't like the original? Also no. But it was good enough I'd watch future seasons.

White Noise (I) (2022)
2/10
Hot trash
2 January 2023
White Noise is psuedo intellectual social commentary posing as a satirical film. There are few short-lived laughs throughout, but ultimately this film fails in every way.

There is no plot. The dialogue is excruciatingly painful to sit through. Besides Adam driver the acting falls short, and I don't understand how this ever got the greenlight.

The writers clearly wanted to come off as intellectuals, but ended up writing drivel.

It feels as though this was three separate movies shoved into one, and none of the three have anything going for them.

Reading through reviews it seems most people turned it off well before the movie ended. Being a glutton for punishment I forced myself to finish it, and I have to say it doesn't get any better.

Skip this, watch anything else.

The Hunt (II) (2020)
7/10
New twist on an old idea
27 December 2022
While this isn't the first movie about the rich hunting the poor for sport, the film felt fresh enough it didn't bother me.

The casting was solid and many of the jokes landed well.

Unsurprisingly given the film is a political satire, there is a lot of discourse in the comments about it leaning one way or the other. While I could've done without the politics in the movie, I don't think they exactly demonized either side. It seemed more that the writers wanted to express that both the red and blue can be awful people.

Overall the gore/kills/jokes/acting and cinematography were enjoyable. I would watch it again in the future.

Bill Burr: Live at Red Rocks (2022 TV Special)
4/10
Subpar for Burr
18 July 2022
Huge bill Burr fan, but this special just picks at low-hanging fruit that's been done a million times. It's not offensive or thought-provoking, it's just kind of boring. A couple laughs here and there but nowhere near as good as his other specials.

Lucky Day (I) (2019)

Stupid in all the right ways
3 July 2022
Let me start by saying this film is over-the-top and as stupid as they come. That's what makes it great. The story line is lacking so if you just want a good story pass on this one.

The characters are ridiculous, the accents are so bad they're good, and the kills are completely unrealistic.

If you're looking for a black comedy, it's worth a shot. Just don't take it seriously at all.

Don't Look Up (2021)
7/10
Painfully accurate
29 June 2022
In a world full of science deniers, and ultra-rich who ignore the destruction of the planet in exchange for an extra couple 0's in their bank account - don't look up captures what will be the downfall of humanity. To many people won't accept the issues until it's far too late. They will claim issues simply don't exist no matter how much proof they are given. They will lobby against any and all kinds of change. Reading the reviews (excluding those who just didn't enjoy the humour), those are also the exact kind of people who dislike this movie. They will continue to plug their ears and bring down humanity with them. Nothing will change until we run out of time.

Sequel retcons and ruins the first film.
13 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The previous movie, "the boy" was an excellent, original feeling film due to the fact it did not have anything supernatural going on. It managed to make you think that, while providing plausible explanations for everything as the film progresses. It ended perfectly, and was a great ride start to finish.

This sequel ruins absolutely everything that was good about the first movie. It practically retcons the entirety of it by removing the "troubled kid in the walls" that we've come to know, and bringing in supernatural happenings that are incredibly cliche and boring. This is exactly how you DON'T make a sequel.

On-top of ruining what was great about the first film, this one would feel flat even if it was a standalone. Bad writing, plot holes, and cliches to the limit.

Skip this.

Time Trap (2017)
1/10
The only timetrap is this movie
27 March 2022
While this movie has some good ideas, it is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The execution is beyond terrible. Don't waste your time. I'm seriously questioning if the people who gave it a good review watched the same movie I did. Countless plot holes, terrible acting, awful script.

The good: the SFX and VFX were decent. It looked like the highest budget z-movie ever.

I'm questioning how this got made in the first place. It's like a child writing a short story the night before it's due and just throwing random ideas together.

It starts at about 5/10, and then progressively gets worse, and worse. Don't even get me started on the ending.

I want my time back.

Big Bug (2022)
1/10
Not sure how this got funded.
25 March 2022
One of the worst films I've seen as of late.

Just to get it out of the way, I don't mind subtitles at all - I watch a ton of shows in various languages (some of my favourite shows are in german, spanish, and korean) and I always have subtitles on even for english films. So that's not a problem.

What is a problem is the horrible acting, the awful story, characters that make no sense, and an extremely drab setting. It looks like the "future" someone would have imagined in the 70s. There is also nothing original about this film. There's been better films that talk about our reliance on technology and the potential perilous results of such that were done decades ago. (iRobot, for example)

There isn't anything good about this film. Don't waste your time on it.

Is It Cake? (2022– )
5/10
Another show ruined by the host
25 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The cakes are great, the talent is real, but I can not stand mikey day. He's not funny at all.

If they were to replace the host for the next season, it would instantly be better. There are WAY too many shows ruined by terrible hosts.

Also; the winner of the first episode cheated and no one ever said anything???

The layout is also kind of weird - with people who only won one of the competitions making it into the finale.

Overall - really awkward pacing. They should have done it like most shows, where everyone competes and are slowly knocked out to find the best of the best. This show was thrown together haphazardly. Still, the cakes are good and it was fine to watch. I hope they fix all these things and do an additional season.

Nothing redeeming
25 March 2022
I like the actors in this film, and the other works that they've been a part of. However this film felt so... bland. None of the characters are interesting, lots of the scenes feel forced, the dialogue leaves something to be desired, and quite frankly it was hard to even finish it.

Bad writing

The idea is fine for a generic horror movie. Lots of the gore and effects were done well, but I just can't get past so many glaring potholes and dumb decisions. Could've been much better.

It's definitely Liam Neeson
20 June 2021
It's Liam Neeson playing Liam Neeson in a Liam Neeson movie. If you like Liam Neeson you'll probably like this. Definitely could have ended better, the twist was ALMOST good, but they fell short of what it could have been. Was alright to watch once as a time waster but wouldn't watch it again.

Hereditary (2018)

Overrated and corny
20 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There is exactly one memorable scene in this movie. Most of it is laughable. Especially the end in the attic when one of the characters is cutting their headoff with a wire, looks like someone pressed fast forward in a dvd player. Don't know why anyone rates this highly. "Black magic cult" is such an overplayed, lame writing tactic. No creativity.

Unsettling and Unpredictable
3 May 2021
The gift is incredibly unsettling, and it will make you tense throughout your viewing. It manages to be both simple and intricate, with the writing, acting, and directing all on point. Without any spoilers, it is definitely worth a watch. This is not your average thriller.

Would have been good, but ...
10 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The acting, setup, and most of the movie was fantastic. However at one point the main character is locked in a room, on a chain, within distance of finding all the information about her? News clippings and all? They live in a big 2 story house why would she get locked in that room? Then at the end of the movie she has a gun out of nowhere? Also seems like it should have kept more backstory in the "Mom"

Let down
4 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was really excited for this film, unfortunately it fell short. While it's not a bad movie, there's a lot that bothered me.

Firstly, the inconsistency. The CGI is really bad in some places, but just fine in others. Like the first scene where Kong eats some fish looks absolutely laughable. And a lot of the fight scenes do too. KOTM looked a lot better. A lot of the sizes don't stay the same throughout the film either. One thing I will say, I a that the human side was better in this film than KOTM. Unfortunately most other things were worse.

Raft (2018 Video Game)
Give it time
19 March 2021
This was started as a project by 2 university students and is not that far into development. I have heard they're planning 30+ "chapters" each adding more to the game. So far, there is only 2. This game is limited but fun and playable, and in the future if it continues with its development it will be one of my favourite games.

Lazy
5 March 2021
I'm genuinely baffled why people loved this film so much. The pacing seemed awkward, most scenes were boring and contributed little, and then the payoff seemed exaggerated and immense given the build up; and not in an exciting way. Apart from one scene I don't find anything in this film memorable. Gotham did this story better with a side character than this movie did.

I've seen worse
16 February 2021
Going into any parody movie you really shouldn't expect anything. With the bar set low, it's a little less bad.

I laughed a handful of times but definitely lost interest before the movie ended. A few good gags but they're lost in an underwhelming parody. If you're really bored and out of things to watch I guess it might be okay? Wouldn't watch it again.
