Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life (2016)
Not a good sign
From the look of it, it's a show with so much promise. Unfortunately, it's badly executed. Is it trying to be Malcolm in the middle? Garrett is constantly talking to the camera as a narrative, then the scenes cut back and forth. It's mimicking Malcolm in the middle but without the sweetness and innocence. Why does every show these days have to promote drug use? Every time someone says party, there has to be a guy in the next scene with a bag of pills. Then the next cut has to be excessive drinking. Then a trashy apartment. Is that really what we call entertaining? Is that the 'best' American humor on TV? This kind of screen writing is just lazy. This isn't going to be a good start for shows in 2016. Sadly.
Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
I didn't mind this movie at all... as compared to NOAH
Do the math. 1 part of Sharknado + 1 part of Final Destination + 1 part of Lost + a lot of eye liner and bad British accent (as spoken by 'Egytians') = ?????? That's how Exodus feels like to me.
God wasn't there most of the time, he only sent a messenger. And God is one relentless killer. I am sure people will argue God is full of LOVE, blah, blah. Get over it, he kills. I feel that he's such a coward that he never shows his face.
If you want to talk, then talk. Why is everything a riddle and a fuss? COMMUNICATION. DUH. And you are GOD? Why play the guessing game? If you want to talk to Moses, talk to Moses. Call him direct or collect. Why make him guess? Don't give me God gives you a choice BS. There's no choice when you are dealing with God, you die if you don't do what he says (or can't figure out what he wants). Tell him what you want him to do! Wouldn't it be a lot easier? That's amazing to me. And I suppose that's the major issue with a lot of people. They simply fail to acknowledge that bible stories are actually quite bloody. When you string a series of bloody events together, it's a horror movie.
Another amazing thing is, the cut of the movie seems very abrupt at times. Or maybe they've spent too much money on the visual, but they forgot to make the effects cohesive. The movie portrayed the plague one right after another. To my surprise, the palace was full of frogs, flies and blood in one frame, as soon as another plague starts, the palace was immediately immaculate. Shouldn't there be blood stains or pieces of bodies hanging here and there? It's a plague!! Perhaps they hired some very efficient cleaning crews in ancient times.
The part I loved most about this movie was, Moses was quite polite when he wanted to have sex. He always asks his wife before "proceed". Can you imagine if somebody's daughter or son is that polite before they get knocked up? "Hi mom, it's Janice, is it OK if I want to have sex tonight with Jason?" That part to me didn't show they were in love, it just shows that they want to make the movie 5 minutes longer. That was used twice in the whole movie even, so it's a good 10 minutes to ask for sex.
I can't wait to see a full director's cut or uncut, or whatever version they are going to come out with. Oh, probably cut... I mean the Jewish, if you know what I mean.
Neighbors (2014)
Bad movie with a good cast
While the cast in this movie is usually funny and amazingly talented, Bad Neighbors just seem flat and very poorly executed. The jokes were not funny and predictable and it was a waste of opportunities. The most fun I had was, spotting the cameo appearances of other funny actors.
The weirdest thing was, Zack Efron's character seemed to be incoherent. That has left a lot of room for development. In the beginning he was rather shy and seemed like a sensitive boy. At some point, I thought the movie would explain that his loud parties are just cover ups for his internal flaws, and that maybe a deep friendship was going to develop between him and his neighbor. That was never fully explained in the movie and his character was very one directional.
On the other hand, Zack was the hottest thing in the movie. His shirtless shots are as usual, priceless. Other than that, this movie has not much redeemable value.
The Legend of Hercules (2014)
Amazing mashed up of 300, Gladiator and He Man!!
The points mostly go to Kellan Luts for looking ripped, hot and dumb in the movie. No, I am not a hater but that's how it is! :) For the most part, this movie is not to be taken seriously. It's soooooooo loosely based on the name of Hercules. It's a Hercules movie for Hercules sake. It's literally on the same par as Arnold and Sally Field's Hercules in New York.
I kept wondering if they rented the costumes from the same company that did 300. Most of the stuff the actors wore didn't even fit (not that they were wearing much). The most prominent one was the helmet.
The acting was non existent. It's a great training exercise and get paid. Not a bad deal honestly. A lot of people go to school for that kind of experience. I'd think most of the money was spent on the CGI of the movie, that took probably 90+ percent of the scenes.
I like Kellan Luts for being Kellan Luts. You just don't expect much from him. He's eye candy and that's all that matters. He's more watchable than the vampire guys, or the wolves in the vampire movies. Poor guy just needs a big break and he'll be on top of everything. Who knows? He might become the mayor one day?
Partners (2012)
Bad script, over acting, and really not funny at ALL!
Yet another series that is NOT funny at all. Really bad script.
The only good thing? Brendon Routh playing another gay character.
The problem I have with these so called "comedies" is the laugh track. You think people will not laugh when something is really funny? Do we really need a cue? By using that laugh cue excessively, it doesn't make the show any funnier.
It really is true that British comedies are far more superior, come on people, write something new and fresh. The sketches in this show so far, are recycled materials and nothing tickles me. It's a huge waste of a good cast.
Any why are all the "gay" characters in these shows the same? Does anyone know gay people come in all shapes and sizes? Why are we type casting all the gays have to act this way? To me, that's just lazy writing to fill the time gap.
Prometheus (2012)
Beautiful imagery, but that's about it
I have to give this movie a very low score because it was just bland. I also agree with stevelovell, the characters were flawed and really given very little room for development.
There were a lot of moments when I went WTF? Really? Where are we going with this? For instance, the character Meredith can be ignored. She didn't really serve any real purpose in the plot at all.
Don't take me wrong, the movie was still enjoyable. But I definitely would enjoy it more if it wasn't given all the attention and all the hype. It simply is a movie that doesn't deliver.
Overall, it's just not an exciting movie.
