Charles: In His Own Words (2023)
Puff piece to ease the awfulness of this person as "King"
Bottom line: Camilla was always his side piece; how can that be forgiven?
Considering Diana's death, and Harry's and Meghan's departure, these tragedy's all due to Camilla!
Is England now that deprived they would want her as "Queen"?
Imho, there should have been overthrow of "Royal" when it became public Charles and Camilla were together during Diana's marriage. The Monarchy should have been over THEN. Especially considering the "heir" is as despicable as his sire...
Wow, congrats, another country being taken over by dotard: "I want to make Britain great again"...
and so it is; shame on us...
Marie Antoinette: Rebel Queen (2022)
The first rock concert?
Trying not to post spoilers so here goes...
I LOVE this epi! Louis ALMOST becomes a man then fails miserably...
But the scene that brought me closer to understanding this European dynasty is the concert led by Marie and her friends.
If that doesn't remind someone of Woodstock, Cow Palace, or Lady Gaga, then they need to brush up on music, first, and history, second, me thinks (imho)...
I felt the soul of Lil Richard, the intensity of Janis, the musicality of Sir Elton, and the beauty of those who've led music for us before.
Forces one to think, could music have changed the world all those eons ago?
GREAT show!
Belfast (2021)
At 68, my FAVORITE movie ever!
Not just because of the social issues I remember hearing talked about as a young Catholic (at that time). The entire movie, cast, crew, everything is so EXCELLENT (something lost imho over that last few decades).
More importantly to me is Dame Judi Dench's performance. I've love her acting since the loss of our American Dame Bette Davis. This role stands above everything she's done (again, imho).
The other cast members for exactly who should've been cast!
I'd love to see a sequel for this movie, following the family and their lives, including "Granny", perhaps after the turn of the century?
Freddie Mercury - The Final Act (2021)
Truly grateful for this documentary
I won't give any spoilers; just want to write I'm so thankful for this (and trying to find re-air in US) as it felt I learned more about Freddie's truth...
He seemed an angel for me as his music was so excellent; and I thought his bandmates and he were special relationships not many of us are lucky enough to have.
To share their deepest feelings in this doc was proof of the love Brian, Freddie, John, and Roger, and others felt. Truly a great tribute to those we've lost...
I want to add, in the early 90s when in the corp kitchen for morning coffee, the TV blasted that researchers found HIV and/or AIDS was NOT a "gay disease"; dishes clattered to tables and floors and gasps were heard... we all knew we all could fall to these diseases... and those who disparaged "gays" worried the most, I think...
Around the World in 80 Days: Episode #1.2 (2021)
How did I think this would be boring retelling of a classic?
The first episode was, imho, okay, but not something I would have chosen to watch over other programming; perhaps on re-broadcast.
But I tuned in for epi 2 and was really drawn into the story line, more by the actor who portrayed Alberto, Cristian De Vergori...
I predict he is going to be amazing and bring us many heartfelt, outstanding performances in what should be a multi-award winning career.
Arctic (2018)
Excellent human care and sacrifice movie...
...something we've been missing of late.
Not sure why this code rating included language as this is one of the few movies I've enjoyed that I curse during scenes but it's not on screen! ("Land" is the only other in the last two years.)
I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't watch this movie and come away with more appreciation for others, but I am sure there are some, and good will to them.
But I do believe any person who is on the edge of losing faith (as I was after 1-Oct) should watch this, then breathe...

Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
DO NOT READ THE BOOK FIRST! Just enjoy the movie, then a few years from now, read the book...
The movie could be good, if you haven't read the book first.
So as not to spoil, DO NOT READ THE BOOK FIRST!
The only resemblance this movie has to the award worthy book is a fire and the character names.
Enjoy the movie, then perhaps a few years later, read the book...
...that way you won't be disappointed in the movie.
DO NOT READ THE BOOK FIRST!

Mr. Church (2016)
Why "experts" review this per race?????
I'm not sure why some paid "professional" critics saw this movie as about race; perhaps their guilty consciences...
For me, it was about love for one another. I grew up with my Italian step-dad's employee, Esau, and his wife, Birdie, taking care of us when Mom and Dad went out. We sang and danced and watched TV, were tucked into bed with hugs and kisses, sometimes at our house and sometimes at theirs (in what I now know was the "black area" as if I would have known there was some difference).
Until MLK was murdered I did not know any difference; then when my Dad and his best friend, Tommy (6' + boxer, Black) came to the classroom window and escorted me out while the National Guard made camp in the parking lot I learned there was something wrong.
Forever through these times nothing changed for us as family and community because we did not have differences; and it caused many problems as others attacked us for being "different" for not having differences regarding race, culture, gender, class, or heritage.
This movie addressed all of that for me! It was never about race, EVER!
As such, the entire cast was EXCELLENT and there is not a moment in which I didn't have to wipe tears either sad or rofl... TY to everyone involved in this movie!

A Star Is Born (2018)
Great soundtrack but somewhat disappointing film
Having watched all 4 versions of this now, I'm disappointed with this version. Not sure why; perhaps lack of continuity; lack of back story, just not sure.
The soundtrack is amazing; all performances are excellent.
But if running all 4 versions in a row, this would probably only rank #3 from 1 to 4...
But, again, soundtrack is outstanding; great to see Lady Gaga as a real person not just the glammed up houchy pop star.
