Hustle (2022)
Predictable Cliché Sports Movie
A steaming pile of crap. Plot seams to have been written by 9 y/o. The b-ball action shots were all horrendously bad. All of the movies characters are caricatures that have been used, misused and reused in the past in most all other cheap and poorly written movies about sports. So in a way they have kept with that lousy tradition here.
The Beach Boys: An American Band (1985)
Disappointing At It's Best
What an uninteresting and lack luster documentary of such a great group. It's mostly consists of archived footage of the group fetched from previous TV recordings and film footage.
Whenever there is an interview you sense that it's all heavily scriptet (and that is written by a hack as well...). Absolutely no depth or authenticity seen anywhere in this totally boring documentary. Save your time and steer clear of this train wreck!
Amateur (2018)
Hallmark Quality
The storyline and acting are as square as can be. The slow mo gameplay footage clearly laughable with opponents clearly not attempting to block advances at all and letting the lead player through what looked like spaces wide as barn doors. Think how boxing scenes in third tier boxing movies always play out: the opponents don't bother to block or duck away from any oncoming punches, they also start turning their heads even before the punch lands...
Writing seems to have been done by someone with no knowledge of neither basketball or reality. For instance: the new young rookie recruit asks if he will be a starter (starting 5 players) in his very first game for his new team. When and where has that ever happened? Also moral aspects are here poorly accentuated in spades. It all feels and reads like a poor Hallmark After School Special.
Roadie (1980)
Magnificent Musical Masterpiece
Just stumbled upon this movie by chance. What a great musical time piece it turned out to be! Nonsensical, quirky road movie with Meat Loaf (excellent acting), Blondie and others in a B-movie made for the ages. Keep an eye out for cameos, there a a handful not emphasized or dwelled upon. Heard of The Blues Brothers? Don't blink and you might see them (both movies came out the same year).
Weiner (2016)
Camera Inside One Long Embarrassing Train Wreck
Wow. Trump types seem to come in a variety of sizes, forms and assorted dick pic's. This documentary was a close study of a narcissistic, self centered out of touch political candidate that will stop at absolutely nothing to get what he wants to achieve, being elected to a high ranking public office. The mayor of New York in this particular case.
Anthony Weiner here willingly tries to deceive his presumptive voters, his campaign staff and most importantly his stellar wife by dodging questions, withholding truths and using anyone and everyone close to him as his own private puppets or pawns in an effort to gain voters support.
In every interview seen here where he is confronted by honest and just questions by both the public and media, Mr Weiner makes it out (in his own mind it seems) that he himself has come away as the victor and smarter one of the exchange when the truth, to us seeing it, is the exact opposite. Scary stuff for sure...
This Is Us (2016)
The New Parenthood?
If you had the good fortune to previously have seen the TV series Parenthood (and presumably liked it). This one could be for you, seeing that it is similar in tone and style to Parenthood.
It's equally intelligently written, acted and directed. Equal parts drama mixed with light comedy. Continuously switching story lines between several different characters and/or groups of characters through each individual episode.
The different plots seem true to life (or at least come across as believable). No laugh tracks, or overly sappy music accompanying the scenes. It seems to me to be simply another high quality series, of which there are all too few and far between these days.
Wild Horses (2015)
Abomination
This movie is unfortunately a turkey and or a lemon. Everything about it is just plain horrible: the acting, the story line, the script and above all: the directing. The director Robert Duvall must have totally lost any objectivity and clear thinking he could have shown in the making of this film.
Well at least the Razzie Awards will most likely have a field day on which categories this stinker could be up for. How 'bout going for a grand slam? New Razzie world record perhaps?
In the end this is all just too bad and a great big shame when they could have made a watchable and enjoyable film with money that was thrown away in the making of this horrible flick.
The Water Diviner (2014)
Turkey
This film is so predicable its a a funny story! Russel Crowe may be a good actor but as a director he is god dam dam joke! The plot is ridiculous and the story line is laughable. A turkey of a movie all the way"! So boring its a god damn joke! Lets please laugh him off as a director. No credibility or fantasy. Sweet joke of a movie, nothing more... Russel Crowe should stick to acting, nothing more. It is a crap film. I laughed through it all. Shame on you Crowe! Go hang yourself. No future in directing! Pack it in! Stick to what you are good at, please don't venture again! You suck, are awefull, shitty. can't handle it. Go home!
1000 to 1: The Cory Weissman Story (2014)
Semi Lame & Predictable
Half-ass Hallmark movie of the week. Sugarcoat and sweeten an otherwise admirable true life story. Through in a script with mediocre dialog previously done the exact same way about one million times before and add some run of the mill acting and voilà, you've got yourself this lame movie, good for nothing else than killing some time.
It's as square and predictable as a TV movie can be. Where with just a little more thought, compassion and intelligence added, it could have made it highly enjoyable and interesting. But I guess they choose to follow the rule book and strictly stuck to the Hallmark TV movie concept. Pity...
La Bare (2014)
Bare Comrades In Arms
A rare (and bare...get it?) insight into a different kind of professional career. Namely Texas male strippers. Real life Magic Mike (a Steven Soderbergh movie for those who haven't yet heard of it). The director Joe Manganiello has previously had a part in Magic Mike.
This movie follows them on and off the stage, outside of the club training, getting Botox injections and doing private home strip shows. Tasteful and delightful for some I'm sure...
In the middle of the movie it's fun to see an assorted array of wanna be amateurs trying out for "a spot on the team". Trying to qualify for a position as a stripper at the club. Needles to say almost all of them look mostly like comic relief...
These guys are all the equivalent of overly body obsessed male bimbos. There is a good chance most of them might be secretly gay seeing their unbounded interest in their own and each others bodies.
But that still doesn't take away from the fact that this is a gem of a documentary!
