A Murder at the End of the World (2023)
Another Ckicken Little
The setting is great, and the hotel is a wonderful set piece. That's where it ends. I love Brit and everything she does...usually. If boredom doesn't cause you to fall asleep, thus taking multiple attempts to get through each episode, then the male bashing and climate hysteria will do you in for sure! If the climate doesn't kill you, then a man will be the cause of your death. In the end, however, the only thing that will kill you is boredom. All the tropes are here. Vapid, selfish billionaires? Check! The underestimation of females and young people? Check! A world ending, super cell, once in a lifetime storm that cuts our characters off from the rest of the world? Check! My opinion? Don't bother!
Fantasy Island: Hurricane Helene/The Bachelor Party (2023)
So, this is what we're doing now?
I have pretty much enjoyed this show. (It's one of the very few I do watch.). The show does a pretty good job of keeping the stories politic/culture war free. However, I was taken aback when one of the guests introduced himself as being queer. Why couldn't the character say he was gay, like everyone usually does. Are straight people going to start saying our sexual preference when introducing ourselves? Also, why did Elena look so sad when she figured out who the girl's bio dad is? Since she's staying, I guess we'll find out...hope she learns to smile. BTW...the woman who plays Ruby has a beautiful voice!
Blonde (2022)
Time I'll Never Get Back
I was really looking forward to this, it being based on a book by one of my favorite authors. Wow, was I wrong! I'm at a loss for words...
Even knowing this is a satire and not necessarily an accurate portrayal of Marilyn's life, still made it difficult to watch. The acting is passable. However, the writing and especially the editing appears to have been done by a high school drama class. (And that's really giving it too much credit!) The reason for alternating between color and black-and-white is a mystery. I can't imagine what the original rating of NC-17 would've been for, unless they cut scenes depicting orgies and human sacrifices. No one makes NC-17 movies, because they're hard to sell and severely limits the audience. Also, the way they chose to show she was pregnant was so strange.
The acting was passable, often bordering on just imitation most of the time. One of my main pet peeves is Marilyn/Norma Jean's voice. There is no way she talked in that "dumb blonde" voice all the time. It was a poor choice for the movie. The movie was extremely hard to watch, and her voice made it even more so. The leading actress said she was concerned about people spreading nudes of her from the movie all over the internet. Sounds like something she should've thought about before making the movie.
Bottom line...watch something else.
The First Lady (2022)
Just watch Betty Ford sections
Three stars for Michelle Pfeiffer. Her acting has been top-notch, even though everyone else's acting was more mimicking. She's also the only one that resembles the real life person and not a parody. However, while Betty's story is very compelling, they managed to tear down and emasculate the one Republican president. While Gerald Ford was basically a placeholder and ineffective, it's too bad they couldn't bring the writing of his story up to that of hers.
So, they included main characters who were gay, black and an addict. Preaching at is while tearing down the office of the President. Yea, girl power wins the day! It's amazing the Presidents is we're able to accomplish anything without them. It's just sad that those who aren't from the US watch this and think these 3 are a fair representative of some of the great men and women that have served in that office. Believe me, I don't have rose-colored glasses on, but I do love our country.
Woke=Broke.
The Good Doctor: Dry Spell (2022)
Here we go again...
Does Hollywood not get that we don't want to be preached at while watching tv? Especially by those who famously (and infamously) don't practice what they preach. The first 3 seasons weren't so bad. I thought I would give it 1 more season to see. After tonight, I'm gone. Between the talk about those ILLEGALLY in our country and everyone's sex life, I think it was a final sign to run.
American Horror Stories: Drive In (2021)
Seriously?
If you are one of those who rated this episode an 7+, how much are you being paid? Look up other things with a similar rating, and ask yourself if you think it's even possible for this to be on the same level. I'll save you the trouble.....it's not. Save yourself. Don't watch it.
Dr. Death (2021)
Meh
I loved the podcast. This was okay. I thought it was weird the way they made such a big deal about him being at Baylor Plano. I gave birth at that hospital around the same time this took place, and it definitely wasn't as big a deal as they made it. Do yourself a favor and listen to the podcast.
New Amsterdam: Things Fall Apart (2021)
Woke and broke.....hopefully no more.
It may be too soon to be optimistic, if the show had continued its current trajectory, this was going to be my last season. Just look at the ratings and remarks. With next week being the season finale, I'm hoping it will end with a gasp (good or bad) and me wishing I did t have to wait for next season to have the great cliff-hangers the show does answered. FINGERS AND TOES ARE CROSSED!
The Resident: Past, Present, Future (2021)
Baby?
Couldn't they have gotten a REAL baby? It was so fake looking that anyone who has even seen a picture of a real baby could tell that baby wasn't real.
The I-Land (2019)
Don't mess with Texas!
First, do the writers/producers know that very few people from TX sound like the wanna be Ross Perots that were hired to "act" in this series. The story was terrible and sounded like it was written by 3rd graders. I was surprised to see Kate Bosworth and usually like her. But not here. The actors were so bad, I thought surely they could've gone to a community theatre and found better actors. OR, was it the writing? Chicken/egg. Egg/chicken.
I agree with the numerous others that wish for Netflix to stop investing in crap like this. If they don't, they'll lose money and won't be able to afford to make projects that are truly worthwhile.
