Blow-Up (1966)
The monkey never learns
18 September 2002
After reading all the positive arty reviews of the film, this monkey decided to follow along and rent it. No, I don't hate it, but if you want to be entertained, then don't bother. There is absolutely no entertainment value here. If you want to see art, go to a museum. The paintings will probably move as fast as the pace of this movie. And if you don't care for climaxes, this is your flic, although who doesn't like a good climax? Very boring, very useless, very annoying (why have the two naked chicks scream like that! ugh). This monkey will now retire from any old artsy films, thank you. Leave this one for the film school crowd.

Scrubs (2001–2010)
Great show, great cast
27 December 2001
This is one heck of a funny show! It is fresh, innovative and hilarious. On a personal note, the cast was on a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and we were there in Times Square and they were the most fun to watch of all the "entertainers" that drove by. They truly enjoyed being there and were yelling to the crowd and having a fun time with it. Their honesty as humans shines through in their portrayals of their characters on the show. Excellent job.

Roll in the aisles funny!
12 March 2001
Went to rent this movie Saturday night at Blockbuster and it was sold out. Got the free rain check and saw it yesterday. It was hysterical. Additionally, when Stiller first meets DeNiro, I felt as uncomfortable as Stiller did. DeNiro and Stiller play so well off each other. I was literally rolling on the floor laughing. This is a funny movie. Stiller's dead pan looks and DeNiro's sly smirk work perfectly. Yes, the situations are a bit far fetched, but it's a comedy! I don't normally comment about other comments, but in general, there were some comments that talk about lack of surprise or lack of story or lack of interest. I am wondering what makes people interested in a comedy in the first place, laughing. If you can't just sit back and enjoy the laughs in this movie, that is so sad. Of course it's not a thinking movie, just let the good times roll over you!

Not the worst..not the best
19 February 2001
I try to break the movies I see into three categories when I see the trailers..ones that I want to see in the theaters, video rentals and not at all. Unfortunately the trailers for this film moved it into the want to see in the theater (action sequences, which were very few) instead of it's rightful place as a wait for video movie. It is a slow paced movie with decent acting and an acceptable ending. An example of an unacceptable ending would be "The 9th Gate" w/ Johnny Depp. That movie drags you thru it and gives you nothing at the end, real visions or imaginary. In "The Pledge", at least you are dragged through it and are shown something in the end and can draw some conclusions on your own. To truly give an unorthodoxed summary to it's slow pace and lack of action, throughout the second half of the 2+ hour movie I had wanted to use the restroom and didn't because I thought I would miss something, which I didn't. So, if you go see it in the theater and nature calls, answer, you won't miss anything (provided you don't go in the last 10 minutes). 6 out of 10

Keaton X 4 = Hilarious
19 February 2001
I am not sure of the certain expectations that people are looking for when they see a comedy, myself included. Is it a good plot, # of jokes, quotable lines, etc.? What makes this movie stand out as being one of the better comedies, to me, is it's ability to be watched over and over without getting tired of it. I can not say this about many movies. This is one of the handful of movies that I actually went out and bought (the other classic comedy being Animal House). Each time I watch it, I find something new that is funny or something funny that I forgot about. Keaton is so quick that it takes several viewings to catch everything said (not to mention that you are laughing so hard at one joke you miss the next).

And yes, the story is not presented as best it could, but I think the focus of the filmmakers was on the jokes, Keaton's ability to play several characters, and the filmmakers to almost flawlessly show up to 4 Keaton's at once (there was only 1 seen on the couch when it looked like the old Parent Trap movie). Overall a movie that I highly recommend for viewing when you want to be "entertained". 8 out of 10.

My Favorite Movie
19 February 2001
As with all things in life, movies are to be observed and reacted upon by the human mind. This movie goes beyond that and touches the human soul. If it doesn't do that, at least take one thing from the movie. Since you can not chose to be unborn at this stage in your life, the next time you have to make a decision in life, (without getting on the right/wrong soap box) YOU decide if hurting someone for your own gain is who you really are about, or if sharing or helping or even not involving someone if it has potential for hurting them, is more about who you are. Something as simply and basic as that is the message this movie sends and yet we all tend to forget it. My favorite movie of all time!

Horrible!
1 February 2001
I can not remember the last time I watched a "comedy" and did not laugh once. Now I will be able to remember since I saw this movie last week. I guess I just didn't find Eddie's stand-up to be funny. As far as a movie, there was absolutely no structure to it. If Eddie was funny the movie's weak format might have been bearable, but it wasn't.

Trailers gave too much away
1 February 2001
Unfortunately, this movie was spoiled by the trailers. It needed to be advertised with much less plot give-aways. It's a shame because then all the twists and turns would not have been so predictable. I will agree with others who say that Michelle's performance makes it worthwhile. She does a fine job. Harrison Ford has too many emotions that are unexplained and his performance is not one of his best (see The Fugitive or Indiana Jones, for that matter).

Overall it was entertaining to watch despite it's slow presentation. Camera work and sound were good. Plot was given away in the trailers, too bad.

I Second on the Awful!
31 January 2001
I'm sorry, I have passed by this film for over 4 years now, and now I understand why. It was recently on TV and I was obviously bored and had nothing to do and somehow managed to sit through it. It actually was painful to watch. It has no redeeming value and was not funny in the least. About the only semi-funny scene was in the bathroom. As far as a deeper meaning, please, this film was horrid. If I had let another 4 years go by, my life would probably be better off. What a waste of a beauty in Halle, and the talent of Martin.

One of my favorite mystery films
31 January 2001
This is a film which I have recommended on many a Friday night when all the new releases are already gone and others are looking for a good mystery/suspense title. I have seen it 3-4 times which is rare for me, especially for a mystery. It is fine entertainment with an excellent story. Not the highest production value, but it's unique story makes up for it. Highly recommended, especially on a weekend night when there just aren't any NEW mystery/suspense releases on the shelf.
