Dilek Tasi (2023)
A Gem and an Amazing Cast
Dilek Tasi is set in the late 1980's. Mustafa is condemned to die for a crime he didn't commit. His young daughter is sent to an orphanage, then adopted by a wealthy family who wants to use one of her kidneys to save their young son. But at the mansion the little girl finds a savior, Figen.
Salih Bademci is in the leading role, where he belongs; he's a tremendous actor! His costar is Hazel Subasi, also extremely talented . Together they have great energy and amazing onscreen chemistry, which makes their roles natural and believable. This is often a weakness in Turkish series due to the laws of censorship in Turkiye. As a result, characters in serious relationships only hug, or when they're about to kiss, the phone rings, the dog barks, or the kid cries. In this series, they accomplish their goal of maintaining the standards of decency, while keeping the characters and their roles real.
I can't finish this review without mentioning another of my favorite Turkish actors, Ozan Dolunay. He plays the part of Figen's other love interest and,as always, he's fantastic!
To whom it may concern: Please, don't cancel Dilek Tasi, you have a winner!
Aldatmak (2022)
Great Cast, Too Much Going On
Aldatmak could be a great series, the cast is excellent, but there is so much going on, that the main storyline is neglected to tend to the side issues.
The story is about a family where the mother, guzide ( Yahide Previn) is a judge who is always on the side of Justice; the father (Mustafá Urgurlu) is a scoundrel as a husband, father, and professional.
The daughter Oylum (Feyza Sevil Gungor) has a beautiful love story with Tolga (Caner Sahin). That is the most interesting part of the story, but almost entire episodes are wasted on countless side issues at the expense of the development of Toga and Oylum's love story:
1. The father, Murat has a 5-year relationship with a woman and makes her believe he marries her in a fake ceremony, they have a daughter, that's not really his, but woman, who is after his money, makes him believe the child is his.
2.the mother, Guzide Rekindles a relationship with her long lost love, whose daughter thinks Guzide is responsible for her mother's death, so the girl plots with three other friends to defame her by doctoring a recording and making Guzide sound corrupt.
3. The son, Ozan, marries a woman who, unbeknownst to him, has worked as an escort, and holds other secrets.
4. Toga's father, with lots of dark secrets himself, manipulates his son to keep him married to a woman he does not love. She tricked him into having a child, got pregnant, lost the baby, can't have any more children, but keeps secret from Tolga.
Oylum is forced into a loveless marriage to protect Tolga, discovers that she's pregnant by Tolga, but keeps secret from everyone. The husband is shot, is kept at home in a coma by his controlling mother , his cousin falls in love with Oylum...
If your head is not spinning by now, mine is. There is a maternal uncle there that I'm not sure what his role is and a couple of other aunts who are given way too much air time.
I only watch to see what happens between Tolga and Oylum so I fast forward a lot.
Kardeslerim (2021)
A great series has lost its way
I have watched this series from the beginning. Anchored at the top in rankings, I feel, by the terrific young actors that give the series its name: Halit Ozgur, Yigit Kocak, Su Burcu, and Aylin Akpinar. They make up the 4 siblings who were orphaned on the same day when both parents died in two separate incidents . The heart-wrenching episodes that followed where the siblings struggled to survive while keeping the family together were nothing less than amazing acting.
With Kali Ozgur leaving the show early on, I thought the series was doomed, but the rest of the cast, especially the young , kept it going beautifully. Onur Sayit Yaran's character Doruk played the love interest of Asiye, Su Burch's character. I thought they really held the show together as the cutest high school couple I've ever seen, their chemistry was great, fresh, they fit perfectly together; they were the heart of the show... then on season 4, Onur Sayit left, and at this point the show lost its way.
Doruk's parents, played by Celil Nalcakan and Simge Selcuk, lost their two children and they act as if nothing happened! It's confusing: The father continues to be a silly rascal and the mother a clueless blonde.
Yigit Kocak, a terrific actor, can't seem to get the chemistry going with the girl he supposedly loves. Their relationship just is not believable.
In conclusion, kardeslerim started out as an amazing series that just got confused and lost its way. Could it be that they might have overextended.
Ömer (2023)
Outstanding series
This is a compelling series, with an outstanding cast of main and supporting actors. No wasted lines, so you want to catch every word. The characters elicit all the emotions: love, joy, sadness, anger, grief. The music touches your soul.
The storyline is also compelling: Against family, religious, and cultural norms, a young man breaks all the rules and falls passionately in love with a beautiful older woman. The two main roles are played brilliantly by Selahattin Pasali and Gokce Bahadir.
The entire cast is amazing, but if I were to pick a favorite character, it would be Sukran, played by Gamze Karaduman. Just observe her facial expressions even when she is not speaking.
I do hope that they keep this series going without stretching it unnecessarily. It is my favorite series this season!
