So Cold the River (2022)
Livin it up at the hotel Cali River?!
The hotel is visually captivating, giving a #ACureforWellness feel. Especially with the whole "His blood runs in the water" besides being beautiful filmed, acted well & an intriguing story. Sadly it has its flaws, no problem with slow burns but at an 1 hour 35 minutes that feels like 2. A plot about a woman film maker who also has visions about the subjects in her projects. She's been hired to make a documentary on a evil man who's basically played live version monopoly with people lives to get any pieces of property he pleases. Including the hotel which also includes the healing properties of the rivers spring water that's been known to cure everything from insomnia to malaria. The wealthy come from miles away to drink and bath within its pools. Let's not forget about the evil tyrant possessing his next of kin in his blood line. And of course there's a boy ghost creeping around. There where way to many plots that could not weave together by the end. So confusing, not sure did she get possessed by the water, did the student get possessed & then killed her, was she a descendant of the dude? What was on the cell phone? It just ends with her floating in a bloody pool. Apparently this was a book first, and other reviews are also bewildered by the conclusion. But if you want to wast some time and be confused watch this mess.
Father of Flies (2021)
No flies!
Daddy got's a new girlfriend and the kiddies don't approve. She stiff, boring and robotic. Addictive to wearing a UV beauty mask, poshly lounges all day, giving dagger eyes to his unruly teenage punk rock daughter & younger deaf brother who's haveing separation anxiety for his biological mother since the move and divorce. Even for the dull moments I was growing more invested with the appearance of a witchy looking next door neighbor, some smooth edited transition scenes, nice cinematographe with saturation In color definitely helps with a #creepy but modern haunting feel for the film. And the sneaky cleverly (been done) jump scares we're entertaining.. part of it felt jumbled like some scenes where out of order or missing not sure. But the finale was so worth sitting though the chaos having you question a rewind watch to see if you missed a clue to that twisted end.
The Exorcism of God (2021)
The power of Christ dose not is not compelling
I've been desperate for an entertaining horror movie and I think I've seen one this year that passesmy standards, as low as they are. The Exorcism of God Followed the typical possession trope. Well reknowed priest set a back from an encounter with an powerful demon. That has him breaking a major moral and Cardinal sin. Trying to redeem his soul with the good lord's work in Mexico. A unknown illness starts to strike the youth of the small village. Now I'm a sucker for #possession movies. But they have to be done inventively, or catch you of guard with something new. This one had the concept of accepting GOD himself into you.. not just the thought of him, but becoming him & and that was interesting I don't think I've seen a movie do that. Using Jesus Christ in his crucified outfit coming at you backwards upside-down like that Ringu chick with no eyes screaming at you like a banshee. And Mary magdalene translucently pale as s#%t with a mutated fetus hanging from her cooch with its abilical cord. CREEP ME OUT & I LOVED IT. I warn you this film will hit a cheap cheese factor at moments. Almost on the borders of Sam Rami horror & it works. There's are scenes of the men trapped in a mental intrusion for women
and there possessed they already kray kray but now they got #demonic presence in them going buck wild, climbing the walls, hanging on the ceiling, slice and dicing. You got #JosephMarcell from #freshprince kicking butt, convincing as frick. The woman who where playing possessed did a good job they really got into there character @thefaria . The whole cast was actually pretty damn good. When a movie wants me wanting a part 2 or a series of it, it's did its job. The end had me I wanna see what happens next.
Dýrið (2021)
BAA BAA Ava
My anticipation was deep with this one. A lamb-human #hybrid born on a #Icelandic lone sheep farm to a couple who recently are going through lost of a child. Did the husband have relations with the sheep? Are they hosting scientific experiments? Is this the origin of #krampus ? An #Iceland folklore with a deeper tail of moving from loss. To witness one birth of something unique, unusual and Innocent. That reminded them of something they once had so desperate that to Literally rip it from her mother & "adopted". Humans thinking there giving it a better life when all they have in mind was there own happiness. This was basic Cannes Festival click bate. 1h 46m Drawn-out of Life on the farm filmed national geographic style of beautiful cinematographe with solid acting. But still having this missing component that last 5 minutes at the end wasn't enough.
The Head Hunter (2018)
I See No Low Budget.
This was a beautifully shot almost silent film. Fantasy Viking mission on a hunt for Troll Beast. Avenging the death of his daughter you're brought into his world. Angst, pain and you feel every minute of it the actor brings you there 100% the creators of this film knew how to use their low-budget to there advantage.
