Don (2006)
I say Chunky Paandey is better than Shahrukh Khan
SRK has done it again, with the tie inside his shirt this time. This guys is lost in a world where the only person he knows is himself. He did horrible in this movie. Given that Amitabh is getting to a point now where he's old and he doesn't give a crap what kinda movies he makes or what characters he plays, he's still Amitabh, and SRK will never be Amitabh. When I was watching the new Don, I compared a few SRK scenes with the old Amitabh Don scenes, and the difference was clear. SRK has no personality, he is as good as Johnny Lever to me.
The movie sucks, the actors suck, all of them, none of them is falling in the character. Priyanka is not a good actress anyway, Kareena should've been in her place, but Kareena is not as hot as Priyanka so I guess Priyanka was a better pick for the role. Indian movies haven't been about acting for a long time anyway, all you gotta do is know the director/producer and look good. This movie was a flop in every single scene, SRK was the worst thing to the movie, as soon as he came on the screen the movie started stinking. Boman Irani dude was not suitable for the character I agree, neither was Arjun Rampal, who never has an idea what he's doing. Kareena did do a very sloppy job of Helen. I can't believe this Director Farhan Akhtar made Dil Chahta Hai, which was a good movie.
I don't know what is up with all these Indian movies being made outside India now, but it makes people wonder what is wrong with India, what is it lacking?? ***************** Spoiler: The real Don never dies, he actually kills the good SRK in the hospital and no one notices. I mean no one sees a wanted criminal killing someone in the hospital and then acting like him. What I didn't understand is how the real Don knew how to act like the good SRK, beats me. But wait till you watch the movie, you'll find more flaws along the same line. In the end SRK actually says: "I am the King" in the movie, what an as s tasting looser.
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
Lame Humor
The success of this movie just shows how hypocrite people get excited by watching racial, female, and non-American bashing. When people don't understand other cultures, they make fun of them, implying that their own culture is far more superior than of those they make fun of. If all the fun is made on the expense of one nation (and its not sarcasm like Simpsons, and its not US), then gee I wonder why the world hates us.
Borat is an idiot from Khazakistan, and he makes sure that he gets the worst out of people by acting crazy in front of them. Where it may seem funny at points, it really isn't movie material, its the kinda stuff you want to watch on hidden camera shows, and that too for half an hour with commercial breaks, thats about it.
Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Different Comedy with great performance
I read other comments about how people hate this movie. Some people said its made by someone who's made at the world, or mad at US, some people said its not realistic, some people said its not funny, some people said that the humor was that these people are worse than us.
The movie had a rhythm to it, it was not very long, and held an interesting theme until the end. It is basically about a dysfunctional family, and if people think it wasn't real, they must look in people's life in US, it was very real. You won't find every other family with so many issues, but they are out there, they exist. And if it was made as a serious movie, about a family with such problems, then no one would laugh at the misery of such a family, but then again, no one would watch this movie if it wasn't funny. People watch reality shows everyday, reality shows are mostly about some jerks judging some victims, sometimes the judges are us viewers. This movie takes a shot at that in the beauty pageant in the end.
I gave this movie a 10, even though I would give a 10 to movies like Lord of the Rings, or Apocalypto, this movie may not have had a big budget, but it outdid itself. Excellent work.
Taxi No. 9 2 11: Nau Do Gyarah (2006)
Copy of Changing Lanes
You know what, I'll give this movie a 4 for making it an interesting copy of Changing Lanes; which was, by the way, only accomplished by Nana's acting. But lets not forget that Nana didn't do anything surprisingly different from what he usually does, he played the same character he has played before is few of his movies. I don't know what the user SignoreTabasco is talking about, but plot of this movie was a complete rip off of Changing Lanes. Nana Patekar's character was almost a complete copy of that of Samuel L. Jackson's. If you're saying that this director Milan Luthria came up with the plot and story by himself, and you have seen Changing Lanes, then you are blind and deaf and stupid.
***Spoilers*** Nana has very similar issues with his family to what Jackson did. There is a scene in the movie where nana is following John, comes right next to John and shows him the nuts of John's tire, and a cross shaped tire bolt opener. That scene is copied from changing lanes as it is. In changing lanes Ben Afflec is going to the court cuz he's a lawyer, and Jackson is also going to the court. In Taxi, John is sitting in a Taxi that Nana is driving but is also going to the court for his father's fortune case. There are things that are completely different from Changing Lanes, but still, its plagiarism.
I agree with what jani-trulove said, this movie is a copy of changing lanes with Indian masala. But more than that, I enjoyed reading sandhirflora's review about the movie. There are definitely directional flaws in the movie and that is due to the fact that the movie was filmed in 45 days or something. Thats what I learned from watching the special features of the movie. I agree that film-makers have a social and moral responsibility, but I think in India it is very common to not care about such responsibilities among film-makers.
One thing that I have come to realize is that it must be a very praised and respectful thing to copy scripts in Bollywood. I have seen numerous Bollywood movies with copied plots, scripts, and stories from Hollywood. I am sure people in India know that these movies are copied because I read reviews from people in India all the time. However, most of the people are very energetic and happy about the fact that the movie is copied. I've read some people even say that the copied version is better than the original. I guess this sort of thinking comes from the way you're brought up. Its not people's fault if they are not properly brought up to tell the difference between right and wrong when it comes to plagiarism and one's original work. Bollywood film makers take the saying "reinventing the wheel" in an absolute opposite way.
What I find funny is that when I rent these Indian movies they have an FBI warning in the beginning saying that pirating this rented version is illegal, and yet they fail to give credits to the Hollywood movies from which they copy these Indian movies. I find that very ironic.
Fanaa (2006)
Free Tickets, still wasted Time
AAMIR KHAN: ----------- What an amazing actor right? Wrong, Aamir Khan is a lost actor. There I said it. He figured he would make a lot of money by doing movies like Lagaan and Mangal Paandey, be all real and show reality in the movies and become Mr. Tom Hanks for Bollywood. He looked over the fact that Bollywood movie viewers Do Not like to think after a long day of crap going on in their lives. They need Shahrukh Khan doing lovy dovy stuff and hot girls shaking this bum on the screen. Let me tell you people, Aamir Khan looked "BROKE" in this movie. He had that look on his face that said "I lost all my money in Mangal Pandey and I've been out of cash since I've not been making movies like Shahrukh Khan, please, give me anything". I'll bring this fact again people, money can make people live and die. Its wrong but real. I don't know how much money Aamir Khan has, but he can sure as hell make a whole lot more by doing movies like Fanaa. Because he has enough batter to fool people with this crap for another 10 years I can bet (take an example of Sunny Deol). Oh yes, for a top celebrity, Aamir was pretty out of shape. It was not in his character to look chubby, even though he was not, but yet he was for being a top movie star. I mean come on, hire a personal trainer. I don't have a problem with a fat actor, but only if it is in the character (e.g. Sylverstor Stallone in Cop Land, George Clooney in Syriana).
KAJOL: ----- She looked pretty, but with a belly, and I don't have a problem with that. Its just that Bollywood doesn't deal with fat heroins anymore man. Get with the age girl and loose that belly cuz I can see the shape of your belly button, I can even tell that its an inny not an outy. Besides that Kajol's performance was good, much much much better than Aamir Khan, who did the same thing in this movie in the first part that he did in Andaz Apna Apna, same expressions and same types of jokes. I honestly think that Bollywood is more than ready for movies led by female as the leading character. That would be a good change, a better change than seeing everyone with ripped bodies and lack of talent. Kajol is definitely on the better half of my list as far as performance is concerned. She is the only reason I am giving this a 2, otherwise it was definitely a 1, or less if possible.
KUNAL KOHLI: ------------ Oh yes, the movie. It had flaws, couldn't keep up with the story. Well the story sucked. This was the type of themes that if come in your mind you wanna wait for a better theme to come because you don't wanna show yourself as a weak director, but I guess Kunal Kohli did. Kunal was the host of Chalo Cinema, and would criticize every movie that came out. Its a shame that he ended up making a movie so flawed and so stupid. Kunal is the person who really sucked in this movie as a director. I agree Kajol needed a break-in in the movie seen again, and Aamir kinda wanted to make some cash finally. But Kunal really sucked.
I would refer this movie to the people who dig love stories wayyyy too much and just can't have enough of it. For that matter it was kinda okay because Rehan does some pretty stupid things to Zooni in the movie. And I guess a girl can only take so much in the end. I wasn't impressed with the sound track, some singer immitated Kumar Saanu very well in the song Chaand Sifarish, I think it was Shaan.
Zinda (2006)
Sunjay Gupta Copy Machine
This director hasn't made a lot of movies, but the following are his movies that are copied from the corresponding movie names:
Zinda - Old Boy
Musaafir - U-turn
Kante - Resorvior Dogs
Jung - Desperate Measures & Face Off
Khauf - Juror
I read somewhere on the internet that his Aatish, Hamesha, and Raam Shastra were also copied/inspired by some "hollywood" movies. I'm sorry if I'm too harsh on the guy, but he's a copy machine man. He's the copy machine sitting in Kinko's that does the crappiest copy for you and you loose your 10 cents and the time.
Whats funny is that people are big fans of this director. They think he's making a difference to the Bollywood, well he may be, considering that bollywood creates ridiculous movies. But I mean come on, I did a little research on all the movies Sunjay Gupta made and they're all copies of one movie or the other. Thats nothing but ignorance. There is a movie director out there who does not realize that he lacks innovation and the ability to produce a piece of work on his own. Yet he claims that he is a director.
Again, I will say what I say every time, I understand that people everywhere just want to make money the easiest possible way. If Americans here in Hollywood somehow figured out a way to copy something and make money off of it, they'd do it. But even remaking a copied movie takes about 80% of the effort. Thats why most of the Hollywood people just end up making something totally new. Why why why, why make a piece of crap out of something good and live with your head held up high.
How can someone feel good after feeding a copied piece of crap to the Indian public and think that its the right thing to do. Well, I suppose they have to show the original to the producer as a prototype and then when the producer likes the original, he orders the director to make the exact copy. If thats how it works in Bollywood then I can safely say that Bollywood is way behind. But then again Sunjay Gupta was the director and producer of "Kaante", why did he copy that off of Resorvior Dogs, he didn't have to answer anyone there. That really proves that he is a no talent as s clown.
Oh yeah, about the movie, Sunjay Dutt sucks, does pretty much the same thing in every movie. He is over confident and why shouldn't he be, all the low-esteemed and inferiority complexed people in South Asia, and even in some western countries idolize him. What better chance than this for Sunjay Dutt to cash his faky personality. If anyone can remember his conversation with Chota Shakeel that was out on the internet a while back they'll know what i'm talking about when I say faky personality. Someone said Lara does a great job as a babe, but not as a Punjabi cab driver, I agree. John Abraham is the worst successful actor possibly in the history of Bollywood. Along the same line as Salman Khan, but worse. There are flaws in the movie, specially when Sunjay Dutt fights those Thai guys with a hammer. No way a literally Old Boy like Sunjay Dutt could fight so many Thai guys like that. They would kick his u know what in 10 seconds I bet anything.
Silent Hill (2006)
Movie is for Silent Hill Vedio Game fans
I'll be straight forward. The movie is gorry, and its for the silent hill vedio game fans. The acting I thought was not impressive. Some scenes were kinda freaky, and the transmission to the darkness was scary stuff. You'll know what I'm talking about when you watch the movie. It was definitely a decent scary movie, not as good as the Ring though. There is no way you can compare Naomi Watts with the chick in this movie. You can really screw up a scary movie, you may not like this one either because of a lot of unexplained stuff. But if you sit back and want to be scared, you will be scared. Oh yeah, The nurse scene could be longer.
Veer-Zaara (2004)
SRK lacks character
For every one of these romance movies, you have to lock the "real world" chamber of your brain, and create a "sissy, awwww so sad, so cute" chamber in your brain. -----FLAWS: -No one speaks such good Urdu in Lahore as they were doing in the movie. How come the servant lady has a thick punjabi accent and no one else does. -No way Manoj Vajpai character never touched preety zinta character after they got married. Because she was looking good in this movie. -How come Preety Zinta's family is so strict and conservative and SRK's family is not. Even though SRK's family is from a Village and those people are more conservative. (I'm sorry, I'm just sick of sooooo many unreal things even though I know its a movie.) -Its the mid 70s or something right? A little after the 71 war, we Pakistani and Indians both hated each other at that time. Yet the SRK's family is oh so nice to Preety Zinta. -----CONCLUSION: I'm not taking anyones side, but being a Pakistani, I know that this movie showed more negative side of Pakistan than of India. I agree that what they showed about Pakistan was pretty much all true. In fact, the reality would've been that SRK came to get Preety from India, and got killed by those emotional Lahoris in a few hours. But that would've ended the movie. All in all, it was a very bad movie. Again, I don't blame SRK for working in this movie. He is a very smart dude. He knows that he must make money doing the same sissy roles over and over again as long as he can. If he changes his role to anything else, there is a chance that our emotionally deviated viewers may reject him. And I don't blame him for not taking that chance, after all, we all want to make as much money as possible.
Inside Man (2006)
Complete waste of talent, time, money
Movie: There are some very interesting comments on IMDb about this movie. Its truly awful. Not enough money is spent on the movie and the way Spike Lee has made it, it seems like a combination of an indie film and an action flick. Characters/Actors: Denzel has done "EXACTLY" what he does in every movie, so no surprise there. Here is a little mind game for the readers. Quickly think of 10 Denzel movies. Now count how many of them were in which he played a cop/detective/body guard, whatever. Clive Owen, hmmmmmm, this guy needs a better role on his plate soon. His best performance was I think in "Beyond Borders". Other than that he did pretty much the same thing as he does in every movie as well. His tone and way of talking was very similar to what he did in "Sin City". Surely this guy knows acting, what he doesn't know is better way of choosing roles. He is in desperate need of a better agent. Jodie Foster was brilliant in the movie, if you are watching her for the first time in your life. She has done better. She has had better roles. It so happens in Hollywood that even the biggest stars fall down on their knees and pick up low class roles as Jody Foster did in this movie. Plot: Plot was not confusing, in fact, I could think of such a plot, in fact the whole movie, while taking a dump after a nice big Chinese dinner. I mean come on, ****SPOILER ON THE WAY----> I am sick of the un-necessary Haulocast and the Racism token. The movie is about bank robbers, why put the Haulocast and the Racism in there, nice try playing with people's emotions, worked on anyone? NOT ME. Police let the bank robbers go thinking they were hostages? Riiiiiiight, please, we're talking about US police force and security here. Nobody could find out where Clive was, I mean they didn't find anything different with that room. Who're we kidding? Conclusion: Sure, go watch this movie, if nothing, you'll have a nice time talking to you friends how bad the movie was. At least people won't think you're stupid to go watch this movie because they'd think you went to watch it because it has a big star cast "MISTAKE".
