The Black Phone (2021)
Watch This Movie
This movie is well acted and well scripted. The kids did a great job of bringing their characters to life. The supporting adult characters were portrayed with the subtlety that was needed to drive forward the plot. And of course, per usual, Ethan Hawke was fantastic. A psychological paranormal horror thriller that combines genres effortlessly without taking you out of the ride. Enjoy it for yourself and hug your kids!
And now I am attempting to fill the required character length for this review to be allowed. What else... the soundtrack was also great. The cinematography, setting, and clothing added to the realism of the time period. Done.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Okay?
I'll give this series a high 6. A lot of clichés and familiar tropes collide here. I would definitely watch another series if it were offered though, as there are many avenues for this to go. If you're young, or don't watch a lot of movies/series, the hype is for you. Enjoy.
Kate (2021)
No
The acting is good. The direction is good. The production is good. Unfortunately, the screenplay or the writing is not. Like most Netflix made movies, it's an Almost Was Good.
Spare Parts (2020)
Meh
Don't get me wrong, this movie is exactly what you think it is going to be, so there are no surprises. For what it is attempting to be, well... it is. It's a B movie with some good gags (f/x). There isn't anything new nor provocative. The acting isn't terrible and the direction isn't terrible either. The script is what it is. And I'd imagine that the movie did the script justice. If you haven't seen a lot of movies, you may just love this one! Read the movie's description. That's exactly what you'll get.
Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)
Jane Wick?
Stylized violence geared towards a female audience, maybe? I personally don't know any women who enjoy these types of movies. This isn't Thelma and Louise. A lot of talented people did very little for this average and unoriginal revenge/avenge/survive flick. The bad women characters were all awesome at killing the even badder men characters. Some good fight scenes and visuals made up for the tired plot. It wasn't bad because it was female driven, it simply wasn't great. Please make a better sequel.
Panic (2021)
A Teen Drama
This is just another teen drama where the parents are portrayed as idiots and the kids are annoying boneheads. Adults should avoid it. Boring characters and a contrived plot. If you can make it past Episode 3 you have far more patience than I. Or you're the target demographic.
Monster Hunter (2020)
Great B Movie
This is destined to be a cult classic. For the first 30 minutes or so I was not impressed by this movie at all. Every cliche is tossed out at the viewer and it dares you to take it seriously. But then the background music kicks in with 1970's synthesizer and it becomes an homage to the creature features of the past giving a sly wink to show you it was not taking itself seriously at all. Enjoy this B movie with good special effects.
Valley Girl (2020)
No
The original is a far superior movie, and that one wasn't even very good. This is more a failed made for TV movie musical shot on an old cellphone.
The Craft: Legacy (2020)
Skip it
This feels like only half of a movie. A pointless and unnecessary waste of talent. Go and rewatch The Craft instead of wasting your time on this.
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)
Good
This is a well acted and well written young adult movie. I was thoroughly and pleasantly surprised. Enjoy!
The New Mutants (2020)
Expect Less Than More
If The CW made another bad young adult Super-hero TV show, this would be even worse.
Guest House (2020)
No.
Try and recall the worst movie that you have ever watched. Go watch that movie. It's probably better than this thing.
We Summon the Darkness (2019)
Terrible
This movie is terrible. Watch 'Red State' instead.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Not Terrible
Obviously, more could have been done to celebrate these characters journeys coming to an end. It's not terrible. I grew up with the original Star Wars series and did not care for the prequels as an adult. But that's the thing, these movies are made for children so some perspective is needed. I enjoyed it for what it is not what you, or I, wanted it to be. Watch it for yourself.
The Legend of Awesomest Maximus (2011)
Bad
This is just another example of how NOT to make a parody.
Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars (2018)
Do Not Encourage These People Ro Make Movies
You will regret ever having heard of this garbage.
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
What a shame
A derivative plot. The sequels to First Blood had made the character into a cartoon, so hopefully this is truly the end of John Rambo. The special effects are decent. Other than that, it's terrible. (And for those calling it racist, yes, yes it is. As is every movie ever with an antagonist of a different race. That's a lot of racist movies you probably shouldn't watch.)
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Disappointed
One of the great respects I have for Tarantino's movies and writing is the dialogue he uses to make his characters timeless. Not catchphrases or sound bites, but depth. Sadly, this movie doesn't offer a lot. It's drawn out far too long with roughly 20 minutes of the history avenged theme. Obviously, watch it for yourself.
Patient Zero (2018)
Move along, nothing to see/hear.
Matt's unnecessary accent? Why? I had the tiniest amount of hope with this movie. It coulda, shoulda, been so much more. Their was an obvious message, which was certainly topical etc. But, the execution is terrible. This isn't a Zombie movie, just like Super Hero movies aren't about the Super Heroes. Whatever your perspective is, this isn't it. You can watch it for yourself, make up your own mind, and write a review. It's the script not the actors, the Director not the camera operators. Small budget. A couple of weeks, at most, filming. Just my opinion, definitely decide your own!
Mother! (2017)
Better than the book.
A thoroughly enjoyable and thought provoking film. A tale as old as time given a rebirth. A near perfect expression once the, blatant, nuances are understood. The visuals are outstanding. The characters portrayed in a modern manor. It is a testament to the arts. The resurrection of humanity within the hell of self-realization and history. It is a film, not a movie. You may be bored, disturbed, or disgusted. If so, you shouldn't watch films. If not, enjoy!
The Dirt (2019)
Meh.
If 'Bohemian Rhapsody' had an illegitimate child it would be 'The Dirt'. It's an enjoyable movie although lacking any sense of drama in the dramatic sequences. It was the equivalent of one of those bad TV movies about behind the scenes of a popular sitcom. Fans may recall the events and escapades of the band during their heyday and hopefully the music will gain the band a new following.
