I Am Mother (2019)

couldn't buy the premise ...

It was certainly helpful when someone explained the whole thing to me. and that is one of the things i didn't like about the movie. it requires explanation. here's an experiment i would like to see. ... just play the movie for 1000 people ... no explanations, no google searches ... 1000 normal people watch the movie and are given a day to ruminate about it if they care to (which i suspect they will not). now ask those 1000 people to explain the whole thing. how many get it? i'm gonna say very few.

i immediately got the 13000 day thing but that wasn't enough. at the beginning of the film the robot and daughter look at the embryos ... that would have been the time to show that 3 were missing. the daughter could even have asked what happened to the other 2 and the robot could simply have said they didn't make it. would that have made it too obvious? no, it would not have.

aside from that issue i also had a difficult time believing the whole premise. it seemed a bit implausible. and hillary swank has to die at the end? isn't the daughter going to need some help creating an entire new human race? i say don't waste your time on this ...

The show will appeal more to young women but i'm an older male and i was easily able to tap into the struggles of the characters and the wonderful overall humor of the show. wacky and quirky but with a pleasant humanity at its core .... it was refreshing to see Dirk, who is bashed as a typical abusive male, actually grow up without much difficulty into a more aware human! of course tuca and bertie have their human struggles too and this is what makes the show work for me. its hysterical but the show is also sensitive enough to the issues that real people face that the audience can care about and cheer for the animated birds. more please!

OK, well at first i was confused because i didn't understand why one person would ask another person if they new what a magazine was. i let go of that and defied expectations by rendering the full effect moot. and something about the film kept reminding me of cheese. i'm not sure why ... i don't even like cheese ... or bacon. go figure!

Love, Death & Robots (2019– )

scattered & cliched

99% of the people who love this are young males that are into video games. if that's you ... congratulations you will love this. if not you probably won't.

the episodes are mostly extremely violent. the show should be called death, violence and violent robots. people who are into video games will love this. the rest of us will not.

i did enjoy the animation ... perhaps next time netflix can create an animated anthology for adults that is centered around sex, love & robots ... with no violence.
