Fall (2022)
Very unrealistic
The redeeming quality here is limited dialogue, making it friendly for watching on an airplane without head phones. Treated as a music clip, the film is watchable.
But, anyone mildly familiar with climbing, or any athletic person in general will cringe from the ridiculously unrealistic moves and behaviors.
What's up with picking up some fake TikTok life hack of plugging a power cord into a bulb socket? I don't think this can possibly work without holding it at an angle and just right!
___ spoiler
Then there is a plot twist of the second death. When did it happen, exactly? Has the drone been launched or not?
Island of Lemurs: Madagascar (2014)
Awesome lemurs, uninspired reading by Freeman
I love Freeman as actor, but was disappointed by his narration, which felt like he is 1) falling asleep and 2) reading the text for the first time from script, with very flat intonation.
Jumping lemurs, otoh, are amazing, could have easily enjoyed more of those shots. Or following around the ringtails' family.
Casi 40 (2018)
Realistic and touching, but slow and unexciting
Watched in an airplane, so could have missed something.
I was prepared for something crass, but it natural and gentle - I really liked that. The issues touched also seem very familiar, another plus, even if none provoked strong empathy.
On the negative side, I don't think I really learned much and I wasn't entertained a lot either. I was also not thrilled to overacting by two female characters - the lead and the journalist.
Oceans: Our Blue Planet (2018)
Perfect IMAX 3D
Just what I want in IMAX - stunning visuals, sights I would not be able to see in person, great narration, some decent educational value.
What I liked the best, and somewhat unexpected, is lack of any "extra" fluff filling time - interviews, morals, speculation - stuff that is better suited to be read and has no place on big screen.
In the City: Barcelona (2006)
Useless marketing video for selected businesses
Director tries to be creative (in a cheesy way, such shooting POV with an unrelated object being kept in the frame) with a cheap video camera, filming what seems to be infomercials for a few chosen businesses, none of which I cared about. A random tourist may do a better job with a phone cam. Also, the DVD is organized in a way that does not allow for just watching straight through and requires a ridiculous amount of menu navigation.
Unrelated, IMDG, come on, why do you require 10 lines minimum for a review? As a user I actually prefer the information to be compressed into as few lines as possible.
The Siege of Firebase Gloria (1988)
Feels like a cheap action movie
This movie is not realistic at all, more of a comedy than a serious war film. Very old-fashioned too. Maybe I was just expecting it to be on a same level with "Platoon". I wonder, why 50% of the voters gave it 10? Something must be wrong.
