Dr Lucille: The Lucille Teasdale Story (2001)
Wonderful film
I stumbled on this by accident on Showtime and have no idea why it hasn't gotten any press. The, to me, unknown leads are fantastic and the true story couldn't be any more inspiring. And the footage of Africa was amazing. Recommended.
The Southerner (1945)
Uneven but affecting
An odd, Grapes of Wrath sort of Depression feeling film. But filmed by Jean Renoir post WW2. Some of the shots and situations are deeply affecting and beautiful. But then there's the dreadful, cartoonish performance by Beulah Bondi. And then there are the wonderful performances by Zachary Scott, whom I had never valued before, and Betty Field. Historically interesting and certainly worth the time. Very Americana.
Serendipity (2001)
Just what we need right now
I had the pleasure of seeing a preview last night of Serendipity and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. Charming, laugh out loud funny, believable characters, good chemistry and writing. And a lyrical love song to New York City. Perfect entertainment for thinking romantics.
