Reading things like "a new standard for fight/action scene" or "best action movie ever" comments, and the 8.1 current score on Imdb makes me think and worry about our collective minds lol. Has intelligence or critical thinking completely been wiped from the general population? Is the audience devoted to these films made only of 14 years old? Is there a deliberate will from film production companies to feed nonsense and stupidity onto our society?

JWc4 is ridiculously bad. The storyline and the general attitude of the writers/producers thoughout the film is like "ok our audience is high-on-something anyway, so who cares"? Mr. Reeves acting defines a new level of "wooden" and it hurt the eyes. He moves in front of the camera in the "why am i here?" fashon. Then he gets hit at least by a dozen running cars, jumps off a building smashing himself on top of a parked car below (which ofc he destroys on landing) and he just keeps standing back up in a matter of seconds and keeps running and fighting like nothing happened. Oh wait, by the final scenes he's limping... The writers/prducers must have though that should be enough to make up for the continuing utter nonsense haha. Oh what about him fighting 30/40 adversaries in a room but conveniently being only attacked by one at the time?! Sure buddies.

Now, about the fighting scenes... They were SO bad and ridiculous that I must 100% agree with those saying "a new standard in fighting scenes"... if they are being sarcastic.

End of rant: This movie is basically on par with those cartoons showing 24/7 on kids channel for a 5-12 year old audience. An adult audience with that level of perception is worrisome. These production companies must old their audience completely braindead considering these offerings.

Ocean Boy (2022)
Great watch!
12 January 2023
The title "Bosch & Rockit" combine two Frank Zappa' song titles, which per se is pretty cool.

Written and directed by actor/surfer Tyler Atkins, B&R is a charming story about a teenager growing up in the beautiful Australian landscape between his passion for surfing and two disfuncional parents. While the drama side of the story could have easily made this a heavy watch, Atkins infuses the whole movie with a charming and ethereal quality that is engrossing.

The surfing scenes and overall scenery are breathtaking. Luke Hemsworth (Bosch) and pro-surfer Rasmus King (Rockit) did a stellar job in protraying their characters, and while Hemsworth's talent is well-known to anyone by now, King's acting here is nothing short of a revelation. Photography is great and the soundtrack prompted me to look it up when the movie ended.

I read somewhere that Atkins stated during a Q&A that this film is essentially about the heavy consequences of the unconscious decisions that parents make. Well, that is exactly the first thing that you'll be pondering on by the end, but also and more importantly, it leaves us with an important and often overlooked truth: it is NOT what happens to us that define us, but it is how we respond to it.

Catch it if you can.

Don't Worry Darling (I) (2022)
Great movie
26 October 2022
"Don't Worry Darling" is a great movie.

Acting, writing, direction, photography, set design, music, etc., are all top notch here. Its subject is interesting and absolutely central in this day and age. Olivia Wilde (actress, producer and director) is obviously an interesting filmmaker whom upcoming projects I very much look forward to. Florence Pugh is terrific in it.

I have to admit though, that after a glimpse at some negative reviews here, I found myself wondering again whether this website's section has become a true reflection of our (cognitive overloaded) society, where a huge chunk of it has become at this point incapable of focusing on (and enjoy) a story without being overstimulated.

I'd say find the right time to watch a film like this. If you are in a mood for an action (or gore) packed film avoid it. But if you are in the mood for something in the vein of the "Truman Show" or "Pleasantviile", then you won't be disappointed.

The only minor issue I had with this film was with the editing department (which is good throughout). Specifically, the transition from the second to the third act, which I thought could have been smoother, and a bit faster.

Overall, a must see. At least once.

Diabolik (2021)
Beside Cinematography, it has no redeeming qualities
5 April 2022
As a huge fan of the character, and having felt let down by the 1968 cartoonish effort to bring Diabolik to screen, I was really pumped to learn that this film was being made and had great expectations for it.

Well...

Truth is that I sat in horror during the entire first act as I could not believe the absolutely incompetent direction, writing and acting displayed on screen. The Manetti brothers should stick to TV films and soap operas as they are clearly not cut for this genre.

But hey what do I know? They are already working on the second and third installments lol.

I want to mention that when Claudia Gerini entered the screen, for a moment I forgot that I was watching a mediocre school play. I wish she was in for more. I also really felt that Marinelli, although he did a decent job, was wrongly cast as Diabolik as he does not have the phisique du role. Same for Leone, which beauty and hair pulled up are not enough to make her a believable Eva Kent. Music score was generic and did not help propel the story.

Although I was hoping for the contrary, Diabolik 2022 doesn't stand a chance against the many international titles out there in the same genre, and as a first installment of what it appears to become a trilogy, unfortunately it is not really promising.

Honest and objective review
27 February 2021
Easy: if you still haven't had the chance to watch many horror and zombie movies, you might still get some sort of kick out of this, otherwise it's just a laughable piece of trash

A movie not suited for teenagers or young adults...
7 July 2020
I was really surprised to read so many negative comments about "Once Upon A Time In America" here on IMDb. After a deeper look though, it is evident that these "unsatisfied customers" are mostly looking for straight-forward entertainment, fast-paced action and possibly a scripts that does not require any critical thinking ability nor any particular familiarity with poetry. Moviemaking for the past 25 years seems to have focused on offering just that 99% of the time. If we add that the majority of IDMb users commenting on these movie nowadays are predominantly generation Z , then it is clear why so many negative comments. So... if action and fast-paced dialogues is what you are looking for, then do yourself a favor and don't watch this movie. You will be bored to death as many have pointed out already. Watch "Once Upon A Time In America" ONLY if you enjoy poetic takes on life, the choices we make and the relationships that accompany our paths throughout this worldly adventure. Watch this movie for the incredibly beautiful photography, the outstanding production design, the gigantic work of director Sergio Leone and for the heart-wrenching achingly beautiful music by Maestro Ennio Morricone. Expect a poignant and dramatic movie (like life itself is) and be aware that emotional maturity, some life experiences and possibly some cultural background are needed to really grasp the wide spectrum of emotions and achievements encompassed in this masterpiece. If you don't feel touched by this film at this stage of life, don't worry... you will later on

Upgrade (2018)
Kick ass!
25 August 2018
Upgrade is the best film in this genre that I've seen in years. Fabulous script, it isn't afraid of dealing with very sensitive issues about the state of current technology and the future implications of it. Direction is impeccable and vibrant. Leigh Whannell, who's the writer of SAW and INSIDIOUS is definitely an interesting film maker with a very promising career as a director. With Upgrade I believe he brought the roof down. Main actor did a great job. I will not add more as this movie is much more enjoyable if you know nothing about it. If you are interested in the AI, sci-fi and thriller narrative, do yourself a favor and DON't PASS on this one!
