Totally Insipid

What a disappointment. Granted that this film belongs to a genre that is not really about very intellectual plots, but even then you do expect at least something out of the whole exercise of sitting through the movie. The actress who plays the "seductress" looks awful. And the sex scenes are amazingly unimaginative.

Great Comedy
14 September 2001
Sai Paranjape is one of my favourite directors. Her films always deal with situations and characters which one can easily identify with.

CB is the story of 3 bachelors. 2 of these (played by Rakesh Bedi and Ravi Baswani) spend most of their time chasing girls. The third one has a little different attitude in life and is more academically inclined.

The movie is absolutely hilarious. I liked it enough to buy a personal copy.

fantasies explored
18 September 2000
The film deals with the fantasies of a blind woman who plays the violin. Playing the violin is a sexual release for her, and she uses this act to excite her self, by fantasizing while playing the violin. Otherwise, it is all about flesh display and the bump-and-grind routine.

The Cell (2000)

predictable
18 September 2000
The plot was promising. But some where , the director seems to have gotten confused. The idea is simple. If you want to cure a person's inner demons, you really have to get inside a person's mind. But here the it is treated just too simply. Jennifer Lopez enters the mind of the killer, and guess what she finds ? Well, a lot of strange things . Demons, literally and help them get killed. And in the process saves a would be victim. And what made the director think Jennifer Lopez was the right person for this role ? Not that she acts badly. But lacks the intensity to make you feel that she goes through a nerve racking experience when she enters the killer's mind.

"Romeo and Juliet" revisited
17 April 2000
Warning: Spoilers
The 80's were dominated by films based on action themes or crude comedies. Qayamat se Qayamat tak (QSQT) came as a whiff of fresh air. The story is simple - there are two warring families and all hell breaks loose when Aamir and Juhi who are from these families fall in love. Basically an Indianised version of "Romeo and Juliet". The beauty of the film lies in the treatment of the theme. This was Aamir's first film , and he looks stunningly innocent. The music is sweet and adds great value to the film. A really pleasant experience.

A great suspense thriller
7 April 2000
A movie in true Rajiv Rai tradition, Gupt is a big budget suspense thriller. The songs are well shot and the movie runs at a pace which manages to sustain interest throughout. Bobby plays a man wrongfully convicted for his father's murder and all evidence is against him. He escapes from prison and puts together all the clues to catch the real killer. Kajol acts well while Manisha looks cool. In fact she looks better than she has ever looked in all her recent movies. If you like well made Hindi masala movies, this is your movie.

Sizzling !!

A great fun movie. The story line is not exactly original, but the direction, editing and choreography more than make up for it. Newcomers Hritik and Ameesha look great. The movie is fast paced and sustains interest throughout. And Hritik really is the biggest draw. He is hunky, dances well and can act too. Just the right stuff for a Hollywood star.

A perfect comedy

This is really a gem of a movie, for all those who appreciate satire and good acting. This may be one of Kundan Shah's earliest movies but is without doubt amongst his very best. This one has to be seen to be believed. Go for it !!!
