Gets better with age...
As a teenager, I was curious about the big picture. As an adult, I lived the big picture, but didn't quite get it. Approaching 60, there is no doubt that this film delivers what we all wish to know: Nothing is impossible. Love is not what you think it is. That something inside of you is pointing to the Big Picture, only to be fooled by the doubt of the mind.
That in this film, every character represents a brilliant aspect of humanity, with the proper contrast, allowing each persona to demonstrate its place in the greater understanding of who we are.
It's the kind of film that may seem superficial to some, yet more meaningful than most would like to admit. It is a litmus test. Those that get it, wonderful !
No Small Parts (2014)
Reveals the skill and mastery of playing the believable everyday person.
It's seems unbelievable to me that there's only been two reviews of this incredibly in-depth and very challenging assignment to produce a presentation this professional and insightful. The episodes never appeared rushed or cursory. Instead they are written in an intriguingly informative manner, that helps you understand why you have loved and appreciated the character actors of "no small parts".
Rogue One (2016)
Closer to the Original than Awakens...
I am an original Star Wars Fan, I was 11 when I saw the original in 1977. I rode my bike to the theater, 17 times that summer, where I paid the matinée price of $0.99. I audio recorded the movie on a portable cassette deck and played it under my pillow for almost a year. I could recite the movie verbatim for most of my adult life!
So, when I say that this is the best Star Wars since Empire, and you are over 40, You will not be disappointed!
The film makers duplicated many camera angles, lighting and mode of the original Star Wars, including many CGI and look alike minor (and a major) characters. This is a great feeling to be connected with some of the original excitement a movie goer had in the late 70's early 80's releases.
Yes, there is no Light saber duel. Because all the Jedi, excluding Yoda and Obiwan, are dead remember?
The boring objections are there because there is actually a story here and ADD movie goers are going to be disappointed...
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Better with age and by comparison
If you have exhausted your never seen Sci Fi films and haven't considered BFE, then this is worth your time. Since its release there have been a slew of really bad Sci-fi, especially if you have sat through the Sci-Fi channel releases and made for DVD. This had a budget and it shows. It amounts to a bad Hollywood Movie, but it at least qualifies as a legitimate film. Yes bad, but much better then most of the terribly bad Sci-Fi. And spiritual what? Its just a save earth from the aliens movie... If ID4 didn't come out first or at all... This movie would have had a life of its own and still might build a cult following over time...
