Best kfu movie ever!
19 December 2003
This is a must see flick for any martial artist or just fan of the genre. Liang is the best director and choreographer of this time period.....probably still to date. Bruce Lee's fight choreography even pales when compared to Liang.

Do yourself a favor rent/see this film.

There is no killing/shooting/nudity. A cleanly told story!

Pushing Hands (1991)

This film demonstrates that an important issue, the aging of one's parents, can be blended with comedy and kung-fu successfully!
14 April 2001
Rarely have I seen the highest level of martial arts, internal kung-fu, portrayed in it's proper perspective. It is hard these days for people to realize that 'soft' style kung-fu will enable an old man to defeat many young men without much effort. With all the silly 'wire-fu' out there in the movies most people have no idea that there is a subtle way to defeat strength through 'chi energy' power lines.

There is no question that Ang Lee has the ability to put kung-fu back at the top of the martial art world. Through his well thought out story line and his perfect blend of drama and comedy he has taken a deep look at the struggle that exists today for thousands of people as they care for their elderly parents. This is truly a movie that can bond many generations.

A great example of a horribly made film!
22 February 2000
This film is what you should compare any other film that you THOUGHT was terrible to......then re-watch the other film and you will find that it was not so horrible by comparison! I am from Philly, I usually think that Will can do no wrong, but here he is the worst (along with the rest of the cast).

Make sure to watch the scene where Smith is fighting the 'metal plated head' opponent......suddenly the opponent raises his arms and is shocked to death....BY WHAT WE NEVER KNOW!!!!!

It is great for all other film makers that such a piece of crap is out there, at an enormous budget, because any film can beat this one!

The best Lui Liang/and monkey style movie ever made!
21 February 2000
As a Bagua/Hsing-i instructor for over 20 years, I have witnessed many different levels of kung-fu expertise. 'Mad Monkey' is the best demonstration of footwork and kung-fu mastery that has ever been put on celluloid. Lui Liang's choreography and acting are first rate. As a viewer make sure to pay close attention to the demonstration of monkey style vs. all other 'hard' styles. In this demo., Liang shows how any martial artist should strive to become more and more loose/relaxed during a fight vs. what we are normally shown, which is the hero flexing his muscles and locking out into stiff poses for the camera. The story is gripping and the kung-fu is top notch, this is truly a martial masterpiece!
