Asteroid City (2023)
1/10
Still wondering what was the point of this movie.
5 July 2023
I watch somewhere around 40 movies a year in a theater and probably that many more streaming or back in the day DVD or BRD. I've seen movies that thrill me, teach me, entertain me, waste my time or generally give me something in return for my hard earned $$$ and more importantly give me something for my time.

Prior to Asteroid City, I had never seen a movie that was a total waste. Don't get me wrong I've seen plenty of movies that I wouldn't watch again, but very few I wish I'd never seen the first time...until Asteroid City.

The previews looked mildly interesting. I should've stopped with the previews. Befuddles me how this movie gets a 7 rating from anone.

Definitely in my bottom 5 least enjoyable movies.

This movie just plods along. It was hard to hear what they were saying. It seemed like they were whispering most of the time. The movie would have benefited from open captioning. Scenes are dragged out far too long. I see lots of movies. They don't have to be high action to be entertaining, but they need to have some plot and ideally some character development to make me care about what happens to them. Never happens.

A Quiet Place (2018)

Not so much a horror movie as an edge of your seat thriller

I rarely write a review, but when I saw the negative reviews claiming the positive reviews must be bots I felt it was time. Yes, there is a lot of sub-titling. The folks often had to be silent. How else are you going to convey what's going on? Do the complainers never see a foreign language film?

Granted, we don't know why the creatures are there, but is that necessary for the story? I didn't walk away unsatisfied without that answer. It really didn't seem to be that important. This was a story about a family's struggle to survive in circumstances very few would make it through.

The tension in this movie was incredible. I felt a kinship with the family I don't often feel. I see 30-40 movies a year. This was one of the best I've seen in a few months. I'll be going to see it again.

Persecuted (I) (2014)
7/10
Ignore the low votes, the movie is much better than them.
21 July 2014
After seeing the low rating for Persecuted I didn't have much hope for the movie. Now that I've seen it, I'd say most of the low votes are from people who didn't watch it and/or are politically motivated to give low scores/poor reviews to any Christian themed movie or any movie that portrays the direction of the country in a negative light.

Without giving anything away, I will say I found myself thinking midway through the movie that 10 years or so ago you would have had to have been some type of conspiracy nut to take this seriously. Today as our Presidents follow the law less and less, various federal agencies are arming themselves to the teeth and the NSA spying on everyone domestic and foreign, it doesn't seem nearly as far fetched.
