Mars Turkey (2001)
The female orgasm meets police work...
The headline is no joke. When a murder witness is being protected by the Israeli Police, including two detectives in an even-parts conflicted and ho-hum relationship, the stage is set for some memorable interplay. Throw in a neighbor's Freudian shrew of a sister, who convinces the female detective that she's more 'frustrated' in her relationship than she previously knew, and good old fashioned argumentative sparks fly. Add that to the witness' armed rapist bodyguard, and the murder suspect's attempt to flee Israeli jurisdiction, in drag, and the makings for hilarity are all there. Enjoy the fast-paced humor with a positively Israeli twist.
Karov La Bayit (2005)
The only 'girls in the army' 'buddy movie' I can remember... only in Israel! :)
A thoroughly enjoyable movie about two girls in the Magav (Israeli Border Police), assigned to patrol Jerusalem together but with personalities worlds apart. Mirit is somewhat shy and timid- the 'nice girl next door' type, while Smadar is somewhat of a rebellious wild child. The daily stress of their patrols, spiced up with some humor and a little female bonding, pulls them closer together than further apart, and an unexpected friendship develops. The cast's ample beauty certainly doesn't hurt, but their acting is not to be underestimated either. The audience connects with the characters, and that can't be said about many films these days... highly recommended.

Twists, humor, and a good plot... should've made the main theatres!
I saw this movie with a friend at the 2000 Palm Springs International Film Festival in early 2000. The biggest thing I remember about it was that it was quite enjoyable from beginning to end- I had no real lapses in interest. A good cast (some of whom were on hand to talk after the viewing) with well-played parts. It's a story about a hard-up slacker who finds a "job" walking an old lady's dog. Little did he know that he was getting into a complex, often humorous, sometimes dangerous web of relationships with the woman's family. If I remember correctly, he become's the family's cook, cleaner, and errand-boy, not to mention the object of the sultry teenage granddaughter's (?) desires. If given the chance, I would definitely see it again.

Nice to see a captivating Israeli war movie actually on TV.
An intriguing film though difficult to understand, in the same "strange war drama" genre as "Apocalypse Now" and "Full Metal Jacket." Just plain nice to see an Israeli war movie on TV. Characters seemed pretty genuine though I would like to see it again for a closer look.
