Bats (1999)
BEWARE: Worst Movie Ever Made
This movie was so bad on sooo many levels, it does not even deserve a review. After seeing Lou Diamond Phillips' performance in "Another Day In Paradise" I thought maybe his career was finally turning up. I was wrong. I don't know who is making his career decisions, but he needs to fire that person, quick. I don't know what planet the last reviewer was from, but this movie was anything but scary. First of all, the Bats look like little flying monkeys. But not even that cool, THEY LOOK FAKE. This movie might scare a 10 year old girl, but that's about it. This movie is what gives Hollywood a BAD name. It is so formula-driven it makes me sick. I could have told you the whole story without seeing the ending after about 20 minutes into the movie. This was the first time I ran back to Blockbuster and demanded a refund, no make that COMPENSATION for being put through the torture of watching such a COLOSSAL PIECE OF BAT-DUNG!
Lilies - Les feluettes (1996)
Exercise in voyeurism
This was no more than an exercise in voyeurism. The story was secondary. Okay, this film was pretty to watch. That is if you enjoy seeing 20 year old guys kissing each other and taking off their clothes. Which really is all this film is about. The "complex story" of a secret and a priest was a clever idea. But it ends there, with a clever idea than never really develops. If you can get past the feeling that "this would never happen" you may enjoy some of the scenery (no pun intended).
Tank 'Klim Voroshilov-2' (1990)
One of the best war movies ever made
This is one of the best movies ever made. It rivals Platoon, Full Metal Jacket and Thin Red Line as one of the best war movies. It's great because unlike so many other war movies, this one is not an American vanity piece, it's about a society and a war that we rarely hear about (Russian-Afghan war). I strongly recommend it, it's one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen.
