Jeepers Creepers (2001)
This movie has no end! *minor spoilers*
And it's not because it's long. Because it's not. In fact, the movie is only HALF a movie...and the best character in the whole thing gets unused. C'mon, the TRUCK is the scariest part of the whole dang movie...they could've built the whole plot on the whacko with a truck! Heck, for a few minutes, I thought that the Undertaker from WWF fame was playing the bad guy, and that was enough to give me the willies...that all ended when the kid went down the drain. After that, the kid with no lungs alerts the viewers that this movie is about to go from cool to stone cold stupid...and it does, shutting off so soon there isn't an ending...heck, there's barely a beginning...and it's a shame such a promising beginning had such a lame movie attached to it. What the horror genre really needed was another freak in a monster truck driving over teenagers, not another demon monster from beyond stealing folks eyeballs. Definately a disappointing movie. As we say around the house, "That was a bad movie...but at least it wasn't Lost Highway".
Nightmare on the 13th Floor (1990)
In one word: Creepy
That's the charm of this movie- it's older and it's perhaps not the best of it's genre, but it is /classic/. The sets and settings are just right to get those little chills going. We all know it can't happen that way (and there are enough plot holes to prove it), but we're still afraid of just that sort of thing happening... it's a big, giant, CREEPY 'what if'... Sometimes people are scarier than the supernatural!
Hannibal (2001)
Perfect Hannibal...
Anthony Hopkins has to be congratulated for this one- he didn't just bring us the same old 'Hannibal' again... he expounded on the character so many times over, you can't miss this, if you're a fan... well, you can't miss it unless you have a weak stomach or are squeamish- because regardless of what the media might say about the level of gore, it isn't the GORE that will get you- it's how it is presented. Make no mistake about it, Hannibal is a monster- even if one most of us love to watch on the big screen... but I wouldn't reccomend inviting him in for dinner. (or eating yours just before watching this movie!) Even so, if you think you can handle it- don't miss Hannibal! It's spectacular.
102 Dalmatians (2000)
Pretty cute, actually.
While this was a better movie than 101 Dalmations (live action, not animated version), I think it still fell a little short of what Disney could do. It was well-filmed, the music was more suited to the action, and the effects were better done (compared to 101). The acting was perhaps better, but then the human characters were given far more appropriate roles in this sequel, and Glenn Close is really not to be missed, as in the first movie. She makes it shine. Her poor lackey and the overzealous furrier sidekicks are wonderful characters to play off of, and they add to the spectacle Disney has given us. This is a great family film, with little or no objectionable material, and yet it remains fun and interesting for adults and children alike. It's bound to be a classic, as so many Disney films are. Here's to hoping the third will be even better still- because you know they probably want to make one. ;)
