Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Lovely ending
A wonderful and entertaining movie that clearly unjustly suffers in ratings from those who wish time would stand still. Indy has aged, but the story is much more elegant than the previous installment and is in similar mood and style like the original trilogy.
Entertaining, witty, smooth, and dynamic, perhaps maybe just 15-20 minutes too long - a worthy conclusion to Dr. Jones's marvelous adventures.
Haters can eat their hats - you won't see a film good like this again anytime soon.
The team is tight-knit, a worthy farewell with old friends.
Mads Mikkelsen is solid nemesis, but big hooray for Phoebe Waller-Bridge - beautiful woman and "force of nature" that echoes as mischief and troublemaker but with good heart.
Never again will I leave the cinema with hearing Williams' "Indiana Jones" musical theme on my way - it was a wonderful ride, heartfelt thanks to everyone.
Protest (1967)
Noir in it's best.
I've seen this movie yesterday for the first time, 35 years after his making. It surprised me, because it is strong, it has great story which is told beautifully, and cast is great - all "best of" former Yugoslav and Croatian actors are there:). Style remind of French new wave from 50's.
Story began when Ivo Bajsic (Bekim Fehmiu)commits suicide, by throwing himself from skyscraper buffet, on main Zagreb square, after having couple brandy. We are then accurately and retrospectively drown into a story which tells us all about indecency, corruption, desires, lust, sins and weaknesses. Movie criticize socialism as society in which individuals have been crashed. Leading musical theme is song "Town" from Croatian composer-singer Drago Mlinarec, which is about solitude and sadness, but also nice memories in big cities... Film is directed with strong but also poetic hand of Fadil Hadzic.
Great! I was really impress with this little-big movie:)
Proof of Life (2000)
Acting does not live here... or directing...
Horrible. Like porno without sex. I don't want to revoke a thing between Ryan and Crowe, but - where is that chemistry that supposed to happened?? They acting like they're in very bad Eurepean movie, without tense, emotions, action, depth or humor.
WHAT WAS THAT?
One of the worst movies of the year.
Hanging Up (2000)
One (Four) life's...
It' really not THAT bad.. First of all,it's story about Eve, and, after that, about life itself, about how he passes us by. Too fast.
Dear Matthau was so good, his last words in the picture, and the style, are nice intersection of his entire career... Film lacks tougher directors hand, and it's more drama then comedy - that's no reason at all why should it be proclaimed as bad picture.
Stigmata (1999)
Story of faith
Giving comment after a few days after I seen it, I must say that in this picture lays something that, in my opinion is one of the most biggest issues of modern, or should I say, of Christianity itself; what Jesus had had in mind when he talked about God in us? Do we really need mediator between Him and ourselves?
-Very good crew and scenario had make this movie very interesting. Byrne is really good, though sometimes is rather 'inconvincible', but, as a priest-scientist, maybe he has right on some 'perplexities'. Patricia Arquette is one of my favorite actresses, and I love her in this movie, or any else.
Director is unknown to me, I must confess it, but, from what I have seen in this movie, it has some interesting views on filming, and I would really like to see his other works, or future ones. Rade Serbedgia in this film look like his not interested. It's a loss.
Film has some frightful scenes, but in major, it's very good movie which gives us some new perspective on Jesus words that the God is in us.
People who has no idea, or been religious fanatics should avoid this film. This film, also, is not the most intelligent topic that has been ever recorded, but it has some good points.
Try figure it out. It's not shallow. And, please, use your own head, and don't be molested by religious fanatics; they would first crucifix Christ just for the way he looks.
The Quick and the Dead (1995)
Intelligent approach to western cliches....
I really like this movie. With Raimi directing, some of the best shots in western pictures has been shown...slightly different...
Sharon Stone is here female Clint Eastwood in 'spaghetti' western, the only thing is missing is Clint's eyes. Excellent camera, Gene Hackman is brilliant as a villain, De Caprio's role is also strong - a kid without loving father...
Rusell Crowe in this picture is really interesting - Sharon Stone allegedly insist of him in this movie... He plays someone who has change his evil ways - another cliche of western... Scenes of gunfights are great - dynamic, temperament and with weird Raimi's sense of art.
Many shots are just like comic book - very rich and filled with many details...
Very intelligent and smart picture. 10/10
Gladiator (2000)
Very honorable man...
"Gladiator" is excellent film. It has very strong message of honesty, honor, dignity and love. Do you still remember this words...? Russel Crowe is in a role of Maximus, Roman general, who is favorite of Marcus Aurelius, Roman Cezar, who wishes Maximus to be a Roman Protector, a guardian of Roman republic. Aurelis son, Commodus, has some other plans... Maximus was very popular amongst Roman army, but, over the night everything changes... In this movie, Ridley Scott guides us through ancient Rome, through it's plots, factions and nasty tricks. Great camera, picture, music and effects is visual luxury; movie has action, story, great players and moral. Oliver Reed is great as Proximus, the spirit of old Rome, honest and bloody, when human life has very little meaning. Violence in this movie makes the point - in movie where human life on battlefields has no importance at all, it show us how meaningless and horrible and monstrous is taking human life in Arena, or killing helpless women and children for political causes...
Russel Crowe is really good. His tired face is representing human struggle between honor or surrender...
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
War sucks
From very impressive opening scene, and through entire movie, Spielberg forces only one message - war is dreadful beast which consume everybody and everything it lay hands on. Taking the beach on D-day, in this movie, is one of the most bloodiest scenes ever recorded on motion pictures. Shocking scenes of destruction and killings are very strong and horrible; for example scene where Nazi kills a American soldier with a knife in a house, where Nazi talks to him on German, and American shouts:"Stop! Stop! Wait! Wait! Listen to me! Listen to me!", is very lifelike, and it's not classical Hollywood scene. Or sniper. Or tanks. Or...everything. The idea of film is very noble - I don't know is this action ever take a place, but fact that many brothers, fathers, children...died in that monstrous event before 60 years is scary...over 50 million people have been killed.
You really have to earn something in your life, as Ryan did... Then you understand the importance of life itself.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Very good!
When I saw this picture, I thought to myself that looks a lot like 'Vertigo' by its atmosphere. Very good story, and intrigueing end of film is something that shall remain in my mind as pleasent drama. I don't understand why people think that this is a horror film. It's obviously from beginning that some sort of connection exist between kid and the "rest of guys", so couple of scenes where something suddenlly appears on screne, on "WHAM" principle, aren't sufficient enough to proclaime this movie a "horror".
Se7en (1995)
Great horror
Well, I have seen this film for the first time almost two years ago, and I still think this is the movie with the biggest "amount" of tense that I have ever seen. Scenario is great, very dark and pessimistic, great review of a world today, although sometimes to extreme. Morgan Freeman was true discovery to me; I was astonished with this actor and his great performance.Brad Pitt was also excellent; he represents detectives of today; light on head and heavy on hands (or at least on behavior). David Fincher with this one and "The Game",I would dare to say, is on footprints of some of the Hitchcock's best movies, and it would be very interesting to see what is next.
Nightwatch (1997)
Great suspense
Well, I think it´s useless talking about original. The director is the same lad! I agree that original is better, but let´s focus on this film, shall we? First of all, Patricia Arquette has been in better roles, but here´s she playing a confused, shy and good woman, and she cannot be a famme fatale as in "Lost Highway". Ewan is great as student under influence of charismatic friend who falls into a bizarre situation, and the rest of crew is great too, specially Nick Nolte. O.K., but there is great suspense and horror in movie and it´s keeping you enchain in your seats all the way! Story is great, camera and atmosphere are tense, acting is good . .. Well, what else we should expect? All differences from original must been accept because director has every right to change it´s own vision. We don´t have to like it, but we should appreciate it.
