TImes Change...
27 November 2006
The depiction of the characters being dramatically more "aged" than we'd expect today is not an error. In those days people DID age more... but more importantly, they looked older than our "seniors" of today. The thinking in those days was once you are an adult you act and look like one. It was an outdated attitude, true, but none the less, it is how they "thought". I remember my own mother at age 38 in the 60s acted like a woman of 70 would act today...and also the way she "looked" as well. I remember my older relatives of the 60s wouldn't get on a bicycle because it was for "kids". That was an ignorant way of thinking, but it was how they thought. This movie was right on for the times. Sometimes you have to be more open to "others" views of things before you draw a conclusion and form an opinion that you state on this website.

Best Film I've Seen This Year!
18 November 2006
I've always LOVED the Bond films no matter who played 007, but have never needed to sit them more than once. But, I have never missed one in the theater on opening weekend. Being in the senior crowd now I am also very picky when I choose a film.

Casino Royale is absolutely awesome. From the opening music sung by the musical genius Chris Cornell - that song he wrote blows your socks off!!!! to the incredible job that Daniel Craig does, well, it's very very impressive. He's my new favorite Bond. I will probably go see it again in the theaters...then add it to my film library! Oh I'm so impressed!!!!

Can't say much more then that other than go see it and form your own opinions! Oh, and to you other Cornell fans. The song is done twice in the film. Opening titles AND the very end after the main 007 theme.

U.S. narration NOT the same as what was shown elsewhere!
30 July 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Morgan Freeman's U.S. script was wonderfully written. There were no voice overs for the babies. He did not talk too much or too little. This was a different kind of documentary. It wasn't meant to give us a science lesson on "The Life of Penguins". It was meant to show us what they endure to follow their instincts, travel across the SOUTH POLE, not the North Pole, to the place where they were born, mate, survive the harsh winter, how they share parenting duties and how cute the young are before they go off on their own. There were things in this film that I didn't know about penguins. I was thoroughly entertained, moved and pleased. If you are an animal lover you will enjoy it. If you saw Duma and enjoyed it, you will enjoy this one. Don't let the negative comments influence you. Hey, one movie ticket is worth two Grand Latte's. Splurge!

People: Why Do You Compare?
25 June 2005
So what if it's not better or as good in "your" eyes as the first one. Let a movie be a movie and treat it like another episode. I get so annoyed with people who rake movies over the coals because it's too much like this one or not enough like that one. Nothing pleases you. Stay home and watch sitcoms! This movie was very cute. It had many funny lines. The theater I watched it in was almost filled and the laughter was everywhere and there was lots of it. If you like comedies try this film. You may like it. I was surprised that Nicole Kidman took the role, but realize she isn't a narrow minded actress and isn't too good for her own shoes. I'm not a big Will Ferrell fan, but thought he did well! Don't listen to these fatalists who write negative comments on these sites. Tsk.

Crash (I) (2004)

An absolutely incredible film!!!
6 May 2005
I can't rave enough about this film. There are enough comments telling you the summary and its meaning so I won't go into that again, but I feel compelled to reiterate the impact it has on me. I haven't felt this way after a movie since American Beauty. It is truly for the thinking man or woman. Any time a film leaves you sitting in your seat in awe during the end credits is an excellent one.

You should believe the positive reviews and chalk the negative reviews up to immature individuals who, unfortunately, happen to have a computer. We all know what kind of movie they prefer. "Crash" will get a lot of notice and praise. Casting, editing, the soundtrack, and the script which included plenty of humorous lines. I would like to shake Paul Haggis' hand in person. He's on his way up the ladder of respect and success! I'm going to see it again!

Totally A Worthwhile Film
1 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure what it takes to be critical of a movie like this. Maybe it's inexperience in life. SPOILERS: Maybe if you've never lost a dear love and don't know what it feels like to have your knees buckle when told they are dead, you wouldn't appreciate the emotion and acting that is conveyed in this script. Also, I never considered this to be a boring movie at all. It's a love story. It had a three tissue ending, but I don't consider that to be a downfall. Richard Gere and Sharon Stone are great. I've seen this film three times now and still think it's a strong 9 out of 10! Don't avoid it because of the negative reviews here. Give it your own scrutiny.

I Got My Money Back
25 August 2003
I can tolerate a below par film once in a while and I write it off as a learning experience. But, this film was SO bad I left after 40 minutes and got my money back.

Horrible cast, stupid plot, stupid dialog, stupid everything. I can't tell you how much you should avoid this piece of junk. It's an insult to an adult's intelligence. If you are over 17 and love this film, you are in serious need of a maturity boost.

Don't get me wrong...I loved Jackass the Movie, I enjoy most of the silly comedy on Comedy Central so it's not my sense of humor that's warped...it's this film. Don't go. End of lecture.

What's wrong with fun and laughter folks?
7 June 2003
I was going to rent this one because the previews did look funny. And I love Kevin Polack. Well, it was on cable so I saved a few bucks. But, hey!!! It was funny! Entertaining! Cute! And worth the 90 minutes. Why are so many amateurs critical of films like this - on an artistic level?? And why take it personally about what you all "the stereotyping" of women basketball players? I thought the film portrayed plenty of feminine, attractive characters on that team. Again...lighten up people. You WILL laugh! If you need more reality, watch the nightly news!

Just Plain Fun!!!
4 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
**Spoilers below***: Don't pay too much attention to the negative comments on this film. Those ppl don't know how to appreciate "a darn fun movie". I think that one negative comment was planted by someone from a rival studio. Marc, can you say "transparent"?

And to those who say parts of this film are a "rip-off". Did you ever think that by the year 2025, something in every film will be a rip-off of something else???? Pft! Grow up. I had a grin on my face through the whole thing. Between the fun of seeing the "bad guys get away with it" and the funny one liners scattered throughout, I was completely entertained! The cast was great, the chases were great...it was NOT a let down at all. Don't miss this one if you like to smile in the theatre!

Lighten Up!
2 June 2003
Why are so many ppl griping? It's only a movie, people! who cares if it's historically incorrect, or the casting wasn't perfection, or some of the acting was lousy??? It was still entertaining. Watch it AND Tora Tora Tora...unless you can only see one movie cuz you'll self destruct.

Jim Carrey does it again, only BETTER!~
23 May 2003
This is one fine piece of 90+ minute enjoyment! The material is fresh and funny, serious and meaningful. I was immediately pleased even after the first 10 minutes! Ignore the posts and don't let any of the righteous, holier than than types who claim to know what and who God is, tell you he'd be angry over the content and wants to punish the ppl who made this film. Drivel. He wants us to get His message anyway possible!!! Those anti-this-film ppl need a brain reboot. I recommend this film to everyone especially in this day and age of "me", and "more me". There is a solid message of good and if you can't handle it you should stop and think again about what YOUR God expects of YOU! Because sorry to say, YOU are the misguided ones.

Red Dragon (2002)

Red Dragon is Excellent!!!
16 April 2003
I thought this was one of the best horror films anyone ever made, and I loathe violence in film of any kind. The average viewer does NOT want more ghastly, blood-curdling, violent scenes, even if they depict fact. It's like sex, the more you leave to the imagination the more class you add to your output. Something must be said for "tasteful".

The pyscho serial killer *IS* still a human being with some good buried deep inside of him/her no matter what how minute and no matter what crimes they commit. To not expect a film like this to explore that side and make the audience feel sympathy is shallow. I am intelligent enough to know that many of these killers do what they do because of some horrendous event in their past...usually their childhood. Most of them are not enjoying what they do...they can't help themselves. Abuse IS the curse of our species. Allowing or encouraging us to be sympathetic to this type of behavior is not wrong as long as it does not encourage us to tolerate their behavior out of that sympathy. I'm applying this theory to real life murderers, because, let's face it... don't you suppose that there's a human walking the face of the earth who could mirror any fictitional character somewhere, sometime, somehow? Odds are - yes.

What a waste of $$$$
11 April 2003
I've decided I will not sit through any more of Adam Sandler's movies until he changes his stye. Punch Drunk Love should have taught me a lesson - gawd that was horrible! This movie had one really funny scene and that was all....[In the courtroom.] I love comedy more than any other genre but this was pathetic and contrived. I love Nicholson so much...so sad to see him in this drivel. Save your money and wait to rent the DVD when it's a buck!

It was painful to sit through.
29 April 2001
The last 1/3 of the film went downhill. Gary Shandling had the only funny one-liners. That whole Charlton Heston business was ghastly! And why do film makers have to portray so many women screaming and running around acting bitchy in films?

And the Natasha character who didn't shut up and listen was very nerve racking. It's an insult to the intelligence of the average intelligent woman to watch those twits behave that way. The average man doesn't accept that behavior why should the audience?

I'm almost speechless!
28 September 1999
I admit I hold too many films as "one of the greatest" in my list. But. This film is by far the most haunting, beautiful, masterfully done, well acted, well everything film I've seen since, I have to say "Titanic". Go see it now. Don't wait for another opinion. Hurry before you hear too much and have the whole experience, yes experience, spoiled by some blabber mouth. I have already seen it twice and it hasn't even opened nation-wide yet. On my first time, I sat there with my hand over my mouth in awe and tears streaming down my face in dis-belief that a film had struck me that way. Why? No answer. It's just such quality film making. From beginning to end. Oscars for them all in my book!!!!

Delightful Film....why tear any of it down?
30 May 1999
Can't we just appreciate a delightful sweet film for it's innocent value. Must every point be dissected and minced? Maybe the severe critics need more happiness in their lives. How can happy humans be so mean? This film was wonderful...and the ending!! How nice for a change. Who cares if a true Brit never says "anyways". Off with his head!

Very Good but...
30 May 1999
I don't enjoy sitting thru any film where the "kids" rule the roost. I think too many people see this as instructions on how to be "parents" (let the kids rule), and how to be a "kids" (rule the adults). I think this is evident in the problems of society now. I think it's a big responsibility of film makers to start changing that image. Make movie kids behave the way real children SHOULD, not the way the bad ones "do". The spoiled obnoxious daughter in this film made me so angry I wanted to spank the actress!!!
