Magnolia (1999)
Awful, awful, awful!
After two hours of watching I was begging this movie to end. But, no. Another hour to go.
This flick was painfully dull, the music was unbelievably intrusive and I hated nearly every character involved.
The gratuitous use of the "F" word was ridiculous. I am a firm believer in swearing to make a point stronger, but people do not walk into a room and say, "it's raining cats and f-ing dogs out there". It just doesn't happen.
As for the raining frogs...why not. By that time my mind was numbed enough to accept almost anything.
I kid you not when I say I rate "Plan 9 From Outer Space" above "Magnolia". At least you could laugh a little at Ed Wood's ideas.
The Sound and the Fury (1959)
Yul Bryner as Jason Compson?
As a fan of William Faulkner in general, and of the NOVEL The Sound and the Fury in particular, I couldn't quite stomach this film for more than a few minutes at a time.
Jason Compson is one of the best characters in literature, and to watch Yul Bryner butcher him on film was not amusing.
