American Pie (1999)
"Wonder Years" for those with a strong stomach.
Pure good fun--with a warning for those with delicate sensibilities. No violence and all sex merely implied or totally denied! This movie is a mix of "Wonder Years" and "Saturday Night Live." A real hoot with a sensitive side.
Simon Birch (1998)
Witty enough to avoid being sappy. Cute without being contrived.
Simon Birch was the perfect family movie: a great story of courage and character, skillfully told.
Its sophisticated wit prevented it from being too sappy and a solid screen-play and terrific acting prevented it from being too contrived.
This movie was recommended to me by a 23 yr old woman and by a 17 year old boy. I'm middle-aged. Something for everyone, I'd say! We could use more movies like this one.
Dennis the Menace (1993)
This movie is best compared to "Home Alone" and the better of the two.
I feel really badly that this movie is on the list of worst according to average vote. If you consider that it relies very much on slap-stick humour, which does not appeal to everyone, that might explain its poor showing.
The movie is best compared to "Home Alone." I feel it is by far the better of the two movies. Dennis is wide-eyed and innocent and the slap-stick scenarios are 'accidental' rather than contrived as in "Home Alone."
This is a movie that elderly parents can watch and be guaranteed to have a good time. It is also a movie that kids will love. If those in between can't appreciate it, that speaks a lot for their loss of innocence.
