Costa! (2001)
People forget who they really are
"Whenever you feel like critisizing anyone, just remember that all the people in the world haven't had the same advantages that you had". Maybe this Scott Fitzgerald quote is quite familiar to Costa!
The film sets out in one of Spains favourable vacation settings, Salou. Especially for senior high-school sudents this place is recommendable. Youngsters go there to party, get drunk and getting lot's of girls.
Main characters in this feature are the 'proppers' of discotheque Costa. Proppers are people who work for a discotheque and try to get other people coming to their party's. Therefor, there is a lot of competition with other discotheques, such as Empire.
The film starts out in the Netherlands where three girls prepare their vacation to Spain, one of them HAS to bring her little teenage sister(Verbaan). The film guide-lines us through the 'dirty-dancing' journey of Verbaan and one of the proppers(Daan Schuurmans). Despite this, the relationship between Daan Schuurmans and one of his female-colleaques(Katja Schuurman) is also notable.
This romantic new of age DIRTY DANCING takes you through one and a half our of pure entertainment. Don't be prepared for a clever script and dialogue. Just expect a funny slapstick typical dutch movie, to see with your friends...In Salou people forget who they really are, that's what the story is all about...Don't forget that!
The Ice Storm (1997)
Darkened Suburbs in the Nixon-election time
The tone of this film is set in the very first second. Dark images of a train accelerating and a boy sitting in the train reading a simple comic-book. After the opening scene you're just gonna know that this picture is going to be one of a kind...
Set in the darkened suburbs in the Nixon-election time this film shows us what filmmaking is about. Beautiful set-design. A brilliant cast(especially Toby Maguire and Sigourney Weaver, both oscar-performances). Director Ang Lee, that only is an art itself. A strange but likelely remotable way of story telling. And a great Soundtrack. Put the lime in the coconut...
From beginning till end, this film grabes you and never let's go of you until those last end-credits roll down. It also shows us that films can be brilliant dispite the fact that the academy overlooked it...
Don't mis this one.......................Just don't!!!!
Braveheart (1995)
Scotlands greatest truelife legend
Rising up in the morning sundale of towering castles, effic battles, mad kings and the legendary love-affaire that helped the course of history. This is the heroic pallage of Braveheart winner of 5 academy awards...
Returning to his birthplace in the roughed highlands, William Wallace, an ordinary man with an extraordinary vision, frees his people and becomes Scotlands greatest true-life legend...
Also starring as William Wallace, director Mel Gibson himself changes the course of history in this three hour epic. Similar to directors like Akira K. & Sergei Eisenstein, Mel Gibson shows us that editing still is the finishing touch to complete a masterpiece. This breakthrough digs deep in the roots of history. Quoted from Robert DeBruce(opening scene):'I shall tell you the story of William Wallace. Some say I'm a liar...'.
Bottom line is that this film shows us what filmmaking really is all about. Sharp and smart editing, an unforgettable cast, the best up till now of James Horner, brilliant first featuring directing by the promising Gibson, great cinematographie by John Toll. In two words.......Magic & Mooning!!!
Milo (1998)
Try to understand the film, try to love it!
Critics claim that this film is one of the worst films ever. Watchers also claim the same. But there is a flip side to that coin. They are wrong, very wrong. It's the most clever film I've seen in ages...
From beginning till end you see a story thats unrealistic. A story that reflexes the real world. This film is like a mirror. You see yourself in another way that people see you. To really understand the directors point of view, you have to see it another time...
When you see this film...Try to understand the story (and watch the background)...Listen to the lyrics of the music...And smell the industrial complexes...
This film is one of a kind. You'll hate it(most people do), or you'll love it(and understand it completely)
Ernest Hemmingway once said:'the world is a fine place, and worth fighting for'. I agree with the second part.
Fight Club (1999)
A clever piece of Art, don't miss it!
'one of the most disturbing films ever' according to critics. 'This film will do harm to young people'. People who believe these quotes are the right indication of this movie, are wrong. This film isn't about fighting or violence, it's about a clever man, who thinks he's getting better, but is really getting worse...
Director David Fincher, creator of films such as 'Alien3', 'Seven' and most recently 'The Game' has come with a new shocking film, 'Fight Club'...A film with great acting(never seen Brad so good), brilliant story(as good as 'The Usual Suspects'), superb soundtrack(Dust-brothers ultimate skills) and even a taste of history...
Digging deep in the roots of history, you can see the similaritys between Fight Club and historical events. The force of the national socialism(Project Mayhem), people being very sick and think they are healthy(Hitler) and all other kinds.........
This darkned and very rare Piece of Art is one of a kind. It's unbelieveable how they can make movies like this one. This is as good as it get's people.
You must see this film!!!!
