Stuff Stephanie in the Incinerator (1989)
Sometimes the worst movies are the best...
I saw this movie a couple of years ago, after I saw the trailor when I rented "Return To Boggy Creek". Of course, this movie IS "bad". But that depends on what your definition of "bad" is. No doubt about it, this film was independant and low-budget. But when you think about it, a blockbuster like "The Blair Witch Project" probably cost even less to make, so who cares? I was actually surprised to see that this movie was made in '89. I thought for sure it was a late 70's flick. If you like low-budget 80's horror movies that should be played on TNT's Monstervision, RENT THIS! However, if you refuse to bend out of conformity, and only will see million-dollar Hollywood projects, stay very far away. (Keep in mind you most likely won't be able to find this movie at Blockbuster, but possibly at an independant local movie rental store). *An 80's B-movie classic.*
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
Don't re-make a classic for the sole purpose of making money...
Before I viewed this film, I had high hopes for it. But I was quickly disappointed. I mean come on, the original Carrie had John Travolta. But I have one simple question... Where is "Carrie"??? There was no one is this movie named Carrie, therefore there was absolutely no connection between this Carrie and the first one. This movie should have been independent from the first Carrie, and just be considered a movie, and not a sequel. The main character is instead a girl named "Sue" (Amy Irving). Though Irving was the best actor in the movie, she was not even comparable to Sissy Spacek, who played Carrie White. I think that a bunch of rich film-makers sat around a table and talked about how much money movies like "Scream" and "The Faculty" were making, and therefore decided to make a few million easy dollars by destroying a classic. It's simple--- If you like movies that are low quality and are filled with "appealing" young actors who lack talent, then go see this "Easy-money flick." If you like quality horror films, or don't believe in mutilating a classic for the sole purpose of film-makers to get rich---- stick to the orginal.
Barfly (1987)
Crazy, drunk, aimless and.................. Brilliant...
A fantastic movie about a man who meets a couple women, drinks too much, fights too much, and talks funny. Though it may seem like no cliche is left unturned, that couldn't be farther from the truth. This film was great. Faye Dunaway gave a exceptional performance, but of course, Mickey Rourke stole the show. Everything from his walk to his loooong drawn out vocabulary struck me as brilliant. Though the film seemed to drag on at parts, I felt myself dragging right along with it. It made me question, "Who is really 'crazy'"?? Though Mickey's character, Henry, is labeled as "crazy", others look at him as a poetic genius. Probably my favorite part of this film is the tough guy attitude of Sylvester Stallone's brother, Frank. I give this flick a 9* outta 10 by far. See this movie, folks.
Bad Boys (1983)
An "average" movie made spectacular by Sean Penn...
A pugnacious, disheveled youth (Sean Penn) learns what it takes to survive. This was really Sean's first "big" movie. Though he was in "Fast Time at Ridgemont High" in 1982, "Bad Boys" (1983) was Sean's first leading role. This very well could be the movie that set Sean up for the characters he has played to the present day. This movie was an amazing leap in exceptional acting for Sean-- going from a burnt out surfer in his previous movie, to an actor that practically saved an entire film. Reni Santoni also stars in the movie, and in my opinion is the only other eye-catching character. He is known for movies such as "Can't Hardly Wait" and "Private Parts." I would definitely suggest this movie, especially to Sean Penn fans like myself.
Graveyard Shift (1990)
Poor acting ruined a could-be good movie...
The cover of this movie scared me more than the actual film. It lacked action and was dull for the most part. This movie had a cast of potentially good actors. However, they disappointed me. The only actor who did this movie any justice at all was Stephan Macht, who in my opinion is a great actor. On the contrary, this movie did have decent special effects. Though they weren't spectacular, they were definitely convincing. If you like "Pet Cemetary", "It", etc, you will most likely enjoy this movie. Anyone else...... I'd stay away.
Kerouac, the Movie (1984)
Read the book...
Though this is a "good movie", it did absolutely no justice to the book. If you are not a Kerouac fan or have no knowledge of him, you will most likely enjoy this movie. However, this movie is not even comparable to any of Jack's writings. I suggest you read his books to know who this man really is.
