The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
In my top 10
Just saw this for the first time on TV and I will definitely get a DVD copy for watching again and again. A really great movie! I was mesmerized by Freeman and Robbins acting ability. I felt like they were my personal friends by the end of the movie. I could relate to their inner thoughts and deeds.
Autumn in New York (2000)
From a couple of seventy somethings
My wife and I are 70 plus, and we enjoyed the movie very much. It is disappointing to read the poor reviews this movie is receiving. The photography was magnificent and New York is shown as it can be, beautiful. One thought we had while viewing it was "Paris, eat your heart out". The story line was not bad either. We recommend it to older folks like us who are tired of movies sprinkled with the F word.
The Cider House Rules (1999)
From a couple of seniors
My wife and I who are 70 somethings loved this movie. It is one of the best we have seen in a long time. Our age group loves "heart tuggers" which this was. The looks on those little orphans are real heart tuggers.
The Evening Star (1996)
A review by a senior citizen who is a grandparent.
I liked it. I love McMurtry and I think the movie does a good job recreating his whacky characters. Although the teenage year crises are exaggerated, anyone with teenagers can appreciate the trials and tribulations of those years. The way in which all the children turn out to be good people proves that the early years of development can help young people (and parents and grandparents) to survive the difficult teens.
