The Curse of the Jade Scorpion (2001)
Pure enjoyment and laughs
This is one movie that I'm glad I finally got to see! Woody Allen has proved time and again that he is one of the funniest actor/directors ever. This movie re-affirms that. Great casting as always. I wonder if stars come to Woody and ask if they can be in his movies.
Curse of the Jade Scorpion finds Woody playing an insurance investigator who comes up against his match - an efficiency expert, played by Helen Hunt(superb casting!) After attending a party, and being hypnotized, they both take part in the thefts of diamonds from some of their insured clients. Very witty movie, and the fact that it's set in the 40's adds even more charm to it. Supporting cast members include Charlize Theron, David Ogden Stiers, and, surprise, sruprise, Dan Akroyd. Supreme mixture of talent in this movie, and it shows all the way through it.
See this movie if you want a lot of laughs. Thank you Woody, for yet another great funny movie.
San tau dip ying (1997)
Best Hong Kong made movie yet!!!
This movie is superb. From the action, to the cinematography, to the technological aspects, to the superb fight scenes, it is awesome. The technology they use makes Bond look like he's using rubber bands and paper clips. This is a must see. Great plot, with action in the air, the water, and the streets.
L.A. Story (1991)
Best, Funniest movie ever made
This movie has no equals. From the beginning to the end, the farce on LA living is excellent. And Steve Martin being a simple weatherman going through his mid-life crises works so well. The soundtrack is superb; this was Enya's first major movie deal, and her music complements it amazingly. I have never laughed so much in my whole life as when I watch this movie. Steve Martin wrote this movie, and it shows. There are more memorable quotes in this movie than in a book about memorable quotes. His narrarating of the movie adds so much to the story and scenes. Many cameo appearances prove this movie is of the highest caliber. This movie pokes fun at every aspect of living in LA. From the health craze, to the shootouts on the freeway, to the snobby attitudes of some of the locals, this movie hazes them all. I will always view this movie as the funniest movie of all time, while at the same time delivering a message that we need to not take life so seriously, and that love rules over everything else. The supernatural aspect of this movie is not overplayed, once again in complements the rest of the plot, and who knows, maybe there are things out there that we'll never understand, and let's hope that they help us on our way when we run into them. This movie has affected me more than any other, and I just want to say, "Thanks Steve!" And of course to everyone else, "go see this movie, and then again, and again!"
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999)
For a good laugh!!!
There is more farting in this movie than a movie about intestinal problems! You will laugh at the non PC way this movie does it thing. You'll only want to see it once though. It is not a movie per se, it should be classified as a musical 'cos more than 50% is the characters singing. Even the devil has a song. If you feel strong about racism, don't see this movie....m'kay
The Mummy (1999)
Awesome and then some, Best movie of the Summer
Words won't do it justice. Five minutes into this movie, I could tell the special effects would put the new star wars to shame. And it did! The effects alone were enough to make me want to see it again. The characters were well played, and the humour was put in at the right times. Some good stunts and fight scenes too! Jackie Chan would like this movie. The sandstorm scene is out of this world. When the plane dives behind the mountain, and the storm rises from behind, damn! To all those who canned this movie: come on, I have yet to see another movie this year, besides Tarzan, that I would really want to see again. starwars was so abominable, that I won't even see the next one... This movie is a must see on the big screen, see you there. Enjoy
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
No longer a Star Wars fan now
This was positively the worst movie I have seen in quite some time. It is very unfortunate that Lucas let this get through the editing process. Some decent special effects, but they were so blatently computer generated that it detracted from the movie. The acting was ok. The light-saber fight scenes were good, but Jackie Chan is at least 20 times better at choreographing fight scenes. I will never again watch this one, and probably will write off the next 2. I am hoping that the third trilogy follows the Heir to the Empire books, even a bad director could make those books shine. All in all, I must give it two thumbs down. I wish it was better, but it really was the biggest disappointment I've had in a long time.
The Waterboy (1998)
Forest Gump remake fails to make it to Sandler standards
I can't believe Sandler allowed this movie to go to the theatres like it is. After seeing all of his other movies, I expected quite a bit more from him and his script. When I heard that it was a take-off of Forest Gump, I thought it would be much more funny and entertaining, and definitely not as stupid as it turned out to be. Bummer! I'm sure his next film will be better, but I might wait until it hits the dollar movies just in case.
Ever After (1998)
Captivating, Awesome, Spectacular movie
Ever After is a delight to watch, perfect for all ages and all people. Titanic pales in comparison. The love story in Ever After is done wonderfully and it grows through witty banter. The characters are far from shallow, and the story never slows. This movie will be one of my favourites. Go see it!!!
