Highway 61 (1991)
One of my all-time favorite movies...
I have to disagree with the other review on this movie... the Satan character MADE the movie, in my opinion. Two of his scenes stick out in my mind - the one where he convinces the little girl to sign over her soul for fame and the end scene where he explains when he discovered he was "the dark one." This movie is a little known gem and it's a bit off the beaten path, being a Canadian film and all, but if you have a strange, wry sense of humor like my friends and me, you'll definitely love it. I would recommend this movie for anyone that's open-minded to the indie-type flicks.
Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace (1995)
How did this movie ever get two stars?
I don't know who voted on this movie, but there are two stars too many in this rating. There were so many holes in the plot and so much bad acting, this deserves to be on the top 5 worst movies of all time list. I've seen Mentos commercials that had more complex thought in it than this Lawnmower Man 2. Matt Frewer had better acting parts in Max Headroom, for goodness' sake. I think this movie deserves to be watched BECAUSE it is so horrible... it will make you appreciate every other movie ever made so much more. I felt nauseated coming out of the theater.
Rush Hour 2 (2001)
Just as entertaining as the first!
Being a big Jackie Chan fan, when I first read some of the lukewarm reviews for Rush Hour 2, I was a bit disappointed, but I rarely listen to critics because well, sometimes they're a bit TOO critical. Most of us are just there to have a good time and some laughs and not to psychoanalyze the film. When I heard several of my friends saying how great it was, I was determined to go see it. It did not disappoint in the least bit. I laughed just as much as the original if not more. Tucker and Chan still have a great on-screen chemistry and it shows. I think they could've spent a bit more time in Hong Kong because it would have made for more interesting scenery than the typical LA backdrop, but it's a small gripe. Truthfully, with the fast paced action and antics, it could have taken place anywhere and been just as great. If you liked the first Rush Hour, do yourselves a favor and don't listen to some of those grumpy critics out there... I had a blast and the audience I was with did too... Go see Rush Hour 2!
Kill the Man (1999)
Horrible movie with even worse acting... stay away from this one
I rented this movie because after seeing Luke Wilson in the excellent movie "Bottle Rocket" and the memorable and witty "Home Fries," I thought he would have had enough sense to recognize a good script from a bad one. Apparently not because this movie is a real stinker. Wilson tries to make it work, so I'll give him that much, but Joshua Malina (Bob) is wretched and should've been left out of the movie altogether. Malina tries to act too over-the-top to be funny and none of it works (shades of Elizabeth Berkeley's "Showgirls" performance). The whole movie has a feel of an after-school special - but even worse because there's no point whatsoever. I don't understand the whole pun with the Kinko's Copies (the movie calls it King Co. or something like that). It makes it obvious that this "King Co." is the bad guy. It sounds like it was just put together by some disgruntled Kinko's employees or something. I couldn't even stand to watch the whole movie... I ended up turning it off halfway through because it was so bad. Take my word for it... this movie belongs in the incinerator.
