American Beauty (1999)
I smell Oscars being handed out for this one
The BEST movie of the year, this dark comedy is so hilarious, the laughter just never stopped. Annette Bening has definately done her best work here. This movie had it all, comedy, suspense, drama, who-done-it and the very ending made you want to run home to hug your family. If this movie gets left out at Oscar time, there is NO justice!
SubUrbia (1996)
Loved It!
I truly and thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The character of "Buff", played by Steve Zahn was oscar worthy. He was zany, hilarious and completely believable. You can't imagine a guy being able to play someone so crazy if he weren't really that way. The story was interesting and very entertaining. Good acting by everyone. I give it a solid "A".
Kitchen Party (1997)
Loved this one!
Speaking as a 33 year old, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie about a group of highschool students having a party. This setting of a group of teens having a party at friend's house took me back to my highschool days. It was so incredibly real that it could have been any one of the parties I attended in my school days.
I also got a lot of laughs and thought the script was wonderfully interesting. Two thumbs up for a project well done! Anyone who has ever partied in their lives, should definitely see this one. And Scott Speedman! What a doll, if only I were 10 years younger!
All Over Me (1997)
Keeps your attention
I was worried that this movie might drag a little but it kept my attention throughout the film. I thought the 2 leads did a wonderful job and they came across as very real people. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Claude and her mother.
At First Sight (1999)
A decent story of love
I went to this movie saying that I was not a fan of Val Kilmer and Mira Sorvino, but came out of the theatre having enjoyed this movie. Between quirky independant movies and action-packed flicks, there aren't enough love stories being made for my liking....at least not good ones. The combination of Virgil regaining his sight and the love that developed between Amy and Virgil made for a very watchable and moving movie.
Zero Effect (1998)
Loved this one
My husband fell asleep on the couch and then left halfway through this one, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I am a big Bill Pullman and Ben Stiller fan, so the casting was perfect in this flick. Each character was very likeable in their own way and the road to solving the case was interesting and unique at every turn. I'd recommend this one!
Slums of Beverly Hills (1998)
Very entertaining and amusing
I enjoyed this one. I like quirky, amusing movies and this is one of them. It came across as very real, though. No goofy plotlines that would make it unbelievable.
