Die unendliche Geschichte III: Rettung aus Phantasien (1994)
THIS FILM IS MISSING THE MAGIC THE SERIES EVER HAD.
The Neverending Story series has just crashed and burned badly. This movie is awful, it doesn't follow the characters very well, it puts them into childish and very corny situations and it has so many tie-ins and bad acting that it reminds me of Barney on fire-control. How could this happen? THEY CHANGED FALCOR, he is a stupid blubbering sissy nanny who can't fly in arc worth crap. the "nasties" and the "nastiness" could have been so much better acted and a whole lot more creative. Whoever really was in control of this film, I don't think ever read the book.
Little Nemo (1989)
Why?
It's sad to see this type of movie put down as a children's movie, because it's a cartoon. The dialogue isn't only not kid-like, but very refreshing in a cartoon. The art, and the colors... the music, all melts together into a work of art unappreciated by the general public. So I ask thee, why?
The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter (1990)
Perhaps the implications are not far enough....
Perhaps the implications of these films into the meaning of the psyche and the human soul is not far enough for people to see. They see the facade of fantasy, and immediately think, children's film. But this is a film for everybody, granted it's not as good as the original film (the never-ending story 1), but nobody sees that. This is a film that could pull through into many peoples minds, if they would only see it pulling through.
The Dark Crystal (1982)
Here is another prime example....
Here is another prime example of incredible storytelling through fantasy, this time by the mastermind Jim Henson himself who also created the absorbing and wonderful Labyrinth. This film is incredible, sweeping tales of wonder, albeit the animation is a bit jerky. This kind of movie could go VERY far, if people would let it...
