William-Patrick Coleman committed to the concept of the show about two weeks prior to finding out he was going to be a first time father. Instead of giving up the idea altogether, he decided to continue in the hopes that his son could look back, one day, and know that his father had fought for something he believed in. As a result, he often refers to the project in the form of a joke, as his "mid-life crisis".
William-Patrick Coleman's left arm is frozen in place, due to a fracture he sustained in a car accident, when he lived in Las Vegas, His physical therapy failed to heal in time, as his forearm bone kept growing back into place. His third car, a PT Cruiser, gently bounced off the back of a truck bed, as that driver stopped sharply in traffic. It was the air bag that blew out, trapping his elbow in place against the encased driver door, snapping it in half. He never likes to acknowledge it or act with it, despite the nerves on his fingers still working, so, more often than not, he writes characters that fidget alot with that arm in particular, to better hide its incapacity to properly extend and reach. The car was the last car he owned as the engine was irreversible and suddenly felt faced with an option- go through another painful surgery in an attempt to salvage the arm again, and the risk of the same result. Or, the latter, which he took. After never living anywhere else, but "Sin City" for 27 years, he sold his belongings and DVD collection to jump over and struggle in a different way, in Los Angeles. He has never been able to afford to fix his arm, since. . The vanity liscense plate that passed from his first car to his damaged third within the wreck, read "FILMBUFF".
Highdely Ho Neighborino is a sketch which premieres on the season debut episode, 'For Jackson'. Its the only sketch within the entire series that was originally written and performed before and adapted specifically for 'Filmbuff'. William Patrick Coleman credits this reason to knowing for a fact the sketch plays great in front of an audience, having performed it before, live during his Second City Improv graduation show, providing him with a better sense of confidence. He even remained faithful to the actress he originally wrote and performed it with, reaching out to include actress and fellow graduate, Carly Oros.
'In All the Gin Joints, In All the World' is the black and white noir sketch, written by Ryan Miller and is the only one that existed the longest but never performed- it played out much differently, as both characters in the bar shared the equal joke of their internal narrations not matching their intentions. In 2012, it was written as a entry for Coleman and Millers previous comedy group, Reelin Seel Pictures, and even cast actress/comidianne Danielle Hansen, with rehearsals establishing everybodys agenda. Unfortunately, they never got around to finally shooting (At the time it was impossible for the guys to pin down a bar location.). When 'Filmbuff' was created, Will reached out to Ryan about resurrecting the sketch, adapting it slightly more to cater to the male character, changing the gag. Despite Wills loyalty to include Hansen, she politely turned it down as she did not agree with the changes. Will immediately jumped to offer it to Samira Beija, whom he had worked with previously on a sketch by Heckler Films, called 'Conversations At The End Of The World'- they had played husband and wife and was desperate to work with her again. He was grateful she agreed, stating the excitement with casting an ethnically diverse actress to a role that usually would have gone to a white woman in that era they were spoofing.
William-Patrick suffers from two eye disorders, one of them very rare. First is Dry Eyes, which occurs only when tears from the eyelid arent able to provide adequate moisture. The other is Distachyasis, which is more rare- in fact, it's more common in canines. It's a disorder of the abnormal growth of eye lashes from the orifices of the meibomian glands in the posterior lamela of the tarsal plate. Basically, it's when certain, but not specific, eye lashes grow inward, instead of outward, and consistently scratch the surface of the cornea. The two mixed together causes his eyes to irritate and inflame a nasty red color, if he doesnt see an eye specialist, every 2 to 3 months, in order to extract the lash with medical tweezers. In some sequences, especially the outside scenes, he can be seen with a hint of red in the corners of his eyes. Most of the time, he attempts to cover them better with eye glasses to distract the audience from focusing too much on the uncommon disorder. Growing up, he stated, it became particularly hard to socialize and explain something so rare to school peers, his whole life. The result made him uncomfortable to be around people, despite his lifelong ability and talent to entertain by performance.
