I honestly love PMY's acting and working ethics! But I just feel like she works too much and her 2 consecutive dramas are so similar. There's absolutely no difference between this drama and what's wrong with secretory kim. The same old childhood links, colleagues, steamy kisses and also the predictable ending. Just watched it cz I have free time in lockdown and of course It's PMY so I know the romance will be top notch! She makes amazing chemistry with LITERALLY EVERYONE shes works with!

Fun watch, but I hate obsessive Fanism.

We all are fan boys or girls of somebody. We adore and support them. But I hate fan boys and girls who are so obcessive to a point it becomes toxic. In this drama most of the times they are just cute fans. But sometimes they goes overboard. I know korean dramas tends to be bit Overdramatic sometimes. But what I dislike a bit about the series is that they tends to justify these obcessive actions rather than condemns it.
I love the leads in this drama and the beautiful chemistry between them. I was thinking of dropping the series because of the obcessive Fanism in the beginning of the series. But soon the story diverted to the romantic lives of the leads. This is a very good watch.

I've always said that if your aren't willing to at least risk being tacky, you won't have any fun.
That's one of the themes of this show. The opening line is: "All Children Are Artists." As we see when the group later goes to an orphanage, the children take pure joy in expressing & sharing of themselves. They aren't worried about critics or reviews.
This show introduces us to Duk-mi. She's an energetic, hard working, and passionate person who lives in Technicolor.
A once aspiring artist, Duk-mi is now the curator of a privately owned museum. Her job is not ideal as she, along with her suggestions, are rarely respected. Duk-mi is not easily suppressed, though. She does her job with verve.
She also has a secret life away from the museum. If found out, she would be fired. You see, Duk-mi ... _... _ _...._... ._ .. . Is a "fangirl." {GASP!} Pop singer Si-an is the recipient of her affection, and she is not alone.
Fangirls are a sisterhood of women, all devoted to a star. Besides knowing all the music and all the useless trivia about their idol, to be a true fangirl one must be at all the star's public appearances. This includes all airport arrivals and book signings, not just concerts. All this dedication is neither easy nor cheap.
We watch Duk-mi go from the museum, straight to a Si-an appearance hiding behind a black mask, with a step ladder and 14 inches of zoom lens. She snaps her photos & heads home, where we see how deeply her obsession is etched on her being. Her studio apt is a giant Si-an collage. It's jammed the requisite cardboard cutout of him, and every other souvenir of which one could conceive- Even Si-an pillows... Even a water bottle, half full, that Si-an threw to the crowd once. (Seriously, I said 'half full' out of habit. This water bottle is definitely half-empty!)
It's basically the tackiest decorating ever. It's even worse than Bette Mildler in Ruthless People.
We then meet Ryan. He appears stuffy, condescending, and cheerless. He's an artist turned lauded NYC art critic, as a mental block severed him from his craft. He can dip a brush in paint, but he can't touch it to the canvas. As a critic he wasn't known to look at many pieces for more than 3 seconds (often just 1 or 2) but as an artist, his career stalled all at once, when a painting of soap bubbles arrested his gaze.
Believing it was Stendhal Syndrome, he treats with a psychiatrist. The syndrome can occur 'When exposed to an incredible work of art, one may experience a rush of psychologist symptoms.' His therapy was going the way of his paint brushes, though: Nowhere. It's a mystery in the NYC art scene, as is the artist, Lee Sol, who brushed on those bubbles that popped Ryan's career. Nobody seems to know anything about her.
The first time Duk-mi and Ryan meet is at an art auction in Shanghai. The series begins displaying fate at work when they end up seated together. They fight over a painting. The painting is of soap bubbles, by Lee Sol.
Duk-mi knows that "her SI-AN" is a fan of Lee Sol's work. Every year, The Road To Si-an web page pools money from fans to buy the object of their adoration a gift. Duk-mi's mission, after her work related business was done, was to get that painting for Si-an. She lost. She tries to talk Ryan into surrendering the painting to her. He just looks at her like she's a lunatic.
They have two other chance meetings, though they both don't put that all together until later.
The director/owner of the museum where Duk-mi works is a garrish, overweening tyrant. She is played by the great Kim Sun-young, who's clealy having the time of her life in the role, while wearing preposterous outfits, and making Duk-mi miserable. Fortunately, she must step down temporarily, while her husband is embroiled in a scandal.
You get one guess as to whom the next director is.
They don't hit it off.
That should adequately lay out the paints on the palette: They have opposite existences, except for their overlapping love of art.
Duk-mi and Ryan, a Korean adopted over seas, are compared and contrasted is visual ways.
Dude's home is painted a deep Wedgwood blue. While it's a pretty color, it's dingy when it covers 4 walls. It reflects his current bleakness.
Taste aside, Duk-mi's room is vibrant. She's open, which is why she can feel art so intuitively. She's full of love and passion which is contrasted to Ryan. He's dried up like old paint.
As Ryan watches Duk-mi in action, he is drawn in by hearing her talk about works of art. With admiring fondness, she seems to be able to scry the artist's thoughts and emotions. He becomes fascinated with her w/o realizing it or thinking about why. Fascination leads to close observation.
We can certainly feel doom approaching. What will Ryan, who is from that snotty NYC art world, think if he ever discovers HPL?
Another theme is about family and togetherness. Duk-mi's parents, while not perfect, created a home where all are welcomed. Duk-mi's mother is, well, motherly. She wants to feed and love-on everybody that comes through their door. They even raised Eun-gi from birth, for an overwhelmed single mother. He and Duk-mi consider themselves siblings.
Fellow fangirl, Seon-joo, who runs the local coffee shop, is Thelma to Duk-mi's Louise.
The office, Duk-mi's apt, museum, coffee shop, and her parents place, are all frequent gathering spots. Duk-mi's life is shared with family, and friends-that-are-family.
Ryan's life is solitude. That's why he's angry when Duk-mi pokes around his place one time when he's not there. He seems to have no one. Unless something slipped by me, the implication is that his adoptive parents, though loving and good, aren't around anymore.
The two seem to fall for each other quickly, though it took them a few episodes to realize it. While the falling-in-love is usually the funnest thing in a romance, in the case of Duk-mi and Ryan, I found the series even more entertaining after they got together. Their chemistry is sensational, and their relationship is pure enjoyment.
Duk-mi smiles with her whole being. She smiles a lot. At first it seemed overdone. It's rather by design. She is the SUN that warms him back up. Art is all about light. Ryan couldn't step forward until he came out of the darkness.
There are mysteries to be solved, secrets to be revealed, and singers to love, in the balance of the show.
HPL also sketched in some laughs.
They have trouble with Ryan's name, so they call him LION.
Eun-gi tells Da-ni that he thinks she'd be an annoying friend. She looks at him and says: "You're a good judge of character."
We understand Duk-mi's obessive side when we get a full look at her family home.
The two protagonists are in a chess game over a notebook and the truth about Duk-mi at times, which is amusing.
There's several potential LOL's for the viewer tucked in here and there.
Poor Eun-gi. He's coming in second again. He wins the silver metal (again) in scoring his GF. Actually, Duk-mi was just a primer. He certainly has a type! However, in my ledger, "GF' won: Eun-gi is more attractive per my tastes, he's protective, loyal, appreciative, chill, great to hang out with, and....... Well, did you /see/ that shower scene?? That actor probably has fangirls himself. Nuff of that....
While HPL is certainly silly, and completely adorable, romance-wise, it can also be profound. The following exchange is a free therapy session.
Seon-joo's TV producer husband is pushed into doing an expose' show on 'crazy' fans. He hides this from Seon-joo, and even secretly copies files from her computer.
When she finds out, she could have foamed up milk with no machine. She was STEAMED.
He tries to explain, with the most positive framing, all the good reasons why he made the show, including securing the transfer she had wanted him to get.
Fangirl nails it. She might be silly, but she ain't dumb. She asks if it was all for /her/ sake then? He says no, he didn't "mean that...."
She responds: "Do you know what I really hate about you right now? If you've hurt me, you should just remain as the assailant. Why are using me as an excuse to act like a victim? Do you expect me to understand and pity you in this situation?" He replies that he shouldn't have waited to tell her, and he's not sure why he stalled with that.
She comes back at him again: "Do you want to know why you didn't tell me beforehand? It's because you didn't feel the need to. You knew I'd throw a fit later on, but you were simply going to escape that moment." In finishing, she informs him that he didn't talk to her because he had already determined to do it.
One of the excuses he used was that it was all for their son. Her response: "You used my precious family as a weapon to stab me, and {your son} as a shield to hide behind. It was a nasty and cowardly move."

There are disappointments: No big "reveal" to Si-an, we don't see the exposé show, & leaving a child at the playground?! C'mon. They could have done plenty of things better, but the positives redeem it. It's good enough to hang in your gallery.
The most important takeaway from HPL is that a loving and caring family unit can do a lot of good. Duk-mi and her mother make numerous lives better. Duk-mi's mother really gets all the credit because she raised Duk-mi. We had the open house in our neighborhood. We are close with many of the kids still, and we even Christmas with two of the brothers that were fixtures in our home for a few years.
We can't go after everything we want and love others. The two are exclusionary. The odd thing is that helping others is more fulfilling than going after everything we want.

Kim Jae Wook and Park Min Young are so natural with each other that they look like a real couple. Wonderful chemistry and fabulous acting by both leads. You will swoon, laugh, cry, and cheer for them. This drama portrays the most healthy romantic relationship I have ever seen in a kdrama. Watch it!

Watchable if not ground breaking, this romantic dramedy is an okay if slightly dragged out watch. Park Min Young is sweet and pretty and the fangirl thing is fun at first. It's nice how everyone is quite good at heart. The supporting characters are pleasant if not memorable. No contrived villains here. The main couple look a bit mature to be playing all cute during the romantic parts. The art is a bit ugly but is a focal point.
The story however is not enough to sustain the 16 episodes. A couple could have been cut. One flaw it there are too many coincidences. The last part feels like one too many reveals. Unnecessary. The birth mother artist is an acceptable coincidence but it's too much that they met at the same playground etc,. Also it seems unlikely that they could not reunite the mother and child even if she had an accident. He knew his name after all. The love triangle is unnecessary. Ahn Bo Hyun is convincing as an athlete brother. But his love for her doesn't feel right after growing up together like that. Another tacked on fauxcest K drama cliche. They do get beyond first base and there is a complete ending. Ok but not a must watch.

I have to admit I was putting off watching this KDrama but it's actually really worth watching. I really enjoyed the chemistry between the leads and it's got a fun support cast especially the crazy Mom who is so over the top! I really loved seeing the world through Duk-mi's eyes. Really lovely! The plot is interesting and maybe too interweaved but it's all actually lovely to watch and moving. I really enjoyed watching this series! Park Min-Young shines on screen. One criticism? Her wardrobe in this series wasn't inspired enough and it didn't match her character at all for me!! Ryan Gold's styling was spot on though!!! And the OST was disappointing! Otherwise a great production!!

I have seen many k dramas. While they start on a high note as the series progresses the pace slows down and several unnecessary sub plots are introduced. The final few episodes are very boring.
And the female lead is plain irritating in later episodes. She is smiling and twitching her eyes all the time for no reason. I really liked her in Healer. Her character had more personality there and her acting was on point. But here after male lead's mother's plot starts she is just the same in all the scenes.

Not The Fluff and Comedy I Expected, but...

For a show billed as a woman trying to hide her double life as a fangirl, the subject matter of the plot turned out to be surprisingly touching and emotional, with a great script and lovely soundtrack. The acting was also excellent, with well developed and believable characters. Don't be fooled by the bubblegum premise; this is a well-executed and mature love story (as long as you can buy into the whole "fated love" trope with all it's impossible coincidences, etc).
ROMANCE RATING: 9/10 As a more mature romance film, the physical contact itself was also more mature overall, with plenty of prolonged and invested kissing scenes (though not much more than that). The kisses themselves, though deep and emotionally charged, never crossed the line into racy. The leads had fantastic chemistry together and I would watch them again if they were paired for other films.

One of the only dramas I've watched where the characters actually really kiss. Park Min Young's fashion is fantastic particularly in Episode 16.

The director's wife is a unique woman with bad fashion taste. The director was sent to jail after documentation showed that financial records were not accurate. Their daughter, Cindy, is also a fangirl of Si-an. A new director is hired named Ryan Gold.
Cindy photographs Duk-mi coming out of the building where Si-an lives wearing the jacket she thinks she gave to him. She thinks there is only one in the entire Korea which is not true as Ryan also owns the same jacket. He lent it to Curator Sung.

This is the only korean drama so far after watching which, I did not fall in love with male lead....i mean no!!!
He seems to be too old to be playing all cute!
K-dramas don't have to drag for 16 episodes....i literally skip watched last episode as it was simply wrapping things and all character's lives which was not necessary.
Need something like 'Crash landing on you' or 'Legend of the blue sea' which keep you hooked till last moment of last episode
Overall a good watch if you have time...otherwise don't bother
Pros: 1. Steamy kisses....unlike other k-dramas where female lead is only at receiving end....this girl knows how to kiss 😉 2. Light comedy 3. Cute judo class scenes (kid fall practice scenes) 😍
Cons: 1. Dragged after big reveal 2. Too many irrelevant connections (childhood connection was not required) 3. Unnecessary love triangle(s)

He seems to be too old to be playing all cute!
K-dramas don't have to drag for 16 episodes....i literally skip watched last episode as it was simply wrapping things and all character's lives which was not necessary.
Need something like 'Crash landing on you' or 'Legend of the blue sea' which keep you hooked till last moment of last episode
Overall a good watch if you have time...otherwise don't bother
Pros: 1. Steamy kisses....unlike other k-dramas where female lead is only at receiving end....this girl knows how to kiss 😉 2. Light comedy 3. Cute judo class scenes (kid fall practice scenes) 😍
Cons: 1. Dragged after big reveal 2. Too many irrelevant connections (childhood connection was not required) 3. Unnecessary love triangle(s)

I really liked the beginning of this drama, the chemistry is great. Its pretty funny... up until episode 14 I feel like the story just starts to drag out. They make long speeches and ridiculous subplot. I enjoyed it until then.

The series's main focus is visuals. Everything is beautiful and colourful. The leads seem to be dressed for a fashion shot in every frame.
The trouble is that's all the series has to offer. The reasons and events go beyond contrived and at time seem forced. Plot is simple and the dialogue is ok but not memorable.
I did like the attempt to include same gender couples in the narrative but again they only leave it at surface level.
Quite a bit of cheese and A LOT of cartoonish sound effects. This one lacks a hook to keep you invested.

This one was just so cute. Female lead Min-Young Park is so easy on the eyes and the chemistry with Jae-wook Kim is amazing. The kissing scenes are scorching! Jung Je-Won is also super cute, can understand why he'd attract such a fanbase. Pretty light watch, not heavy on drama. Definitely recommended.

Bland plot, moderately cheesy romance. In my opinion a good portion of this drama was aimed at the foreign audience who are very much into kpop and fangirling in aims of making it relatable for them. Some aspects of fangirling shown in this drama was only relevant for obsessive fans.
Some of the kissing scenes felt weird and a little excessive.
This drama like many other korean dramas ( eg : what is wrong with secretary kim, touch your heart,etc) consist of the same cheesy romance-but oh wait there is a sad/traumatizing back story for one or both of the characters- much depth much wow kind of scenario.

This is one of the best korean romantic comedy drama. It's a little weird & quicky in the first few episodes as the young lady who is in her early 30's is ridiculously hard core die fan of youn artist. She has a double life. Her home is full of this young artist. It doesn't suit her to be a fangirl. It's actually out of hand.
But she is also sweet, cute, pretty, warm-hearted, hard-working & kind.
She change so much when she meets this handsome artist.
If you like romantic, a little comedy & mystery drama, this is one of the best other than 'Crash landing on you' & 'It's okay to be not okay'. This drama really gives good feeling with each episode. The ending is not just a show where they finally confessed their love but with a proposal!
It helps when the leading lady & man are both beautiful to watch! It's important when watching a drama, if not all the music are good but at least some gives good vibes, makes you cry out of sadness & happiness!
Definitely one to watch! A totally swoonworthy drama! Both leafing actors are comfortable with each other that their love story gives warm & fuzzy feeling!

I just started watching this and what I noticed first was that this drama seems to have face smoothing filter as all the actors faces seem so smooth and wooden. Bit over the top with the CGI. I guess it goes it's with the webtoon history. The colours are so vivid.
That true Director an owner of the Art Museum has abominable dress and fashion sense and her hair. Aish! She makes me feel annoyed.
I find it absolutely intriguing that Korea men can be such bullies but then they are portrayed in these dramas as positive role models when it comes to sleeping with their girlfriend. They may be in the same bed but the don't cross the line. So unbelievable in my culture. Doesn't the energy when you are with the one you love just build up?
It reminds me of a Love Comic we read when we were kids. I think they call them graphic novels now days.
The story line is a bit insipid but I guess teenagers will like it.

Everybody is fanboy or fangirl of something but we don't have to show it off to other our different sides. This drama clearly show a good fan who support what they love.
For romance point of view, this drama may rely on ordinary plot but these two actors chemistry make the drama super hot 🔥
One thing I like about this drama is they don't drag those problems even childhood thingy too long.
My favorite thing is they communicate like adult. Some may think it as boring but this simple boring method of communication is the real solution for problem we face in real life.
After All, this drama is sweet and full with meaningful thing in simple storyline.

The good: I liked the first seven episodes. They were quite funny, sometimes silly but made me laugh a lot, reminding me of my own childish fluttering and yearning fan heart that never went to the extremes depicted, but was just happy dreaming about the beloved star. So I enjoyed the glimpse into a fan persecuted idol's and fandom's world, empathising with both, reconnecting with and reminiscing juvenile memories. I also liked the introduction into art and curation. The romance follows the stereotype of cold guy's heart melted by happy, warm girl and the fate line childhood friends become lovers, so nothing new, but nice and credible and had some heart flutter moments. So Kim Jae-Wook is definitely able to produce them. The cast was interesting and quite diverse and I especially liked character and performance of Ahn Bo-Hyun, but all did well and the side plots were interesting, too. The ending scene is also nice and satisfying.
The bad: Shortly after such a heart flutter the evolution of the romance was stopped by unnecessary love triangles, out of which one felt really made up and was incredible. From episode 8 the funny, lighthearted and fandom parts fade to almost nonexistent and the storyline changes to personal problems and childhood reconciliation while art exposition planning is going on. That's not bad in itself, but I felt in a nimbus searching for a storyline to follow while enduring the daily details of a couple in love for too many seasons. The tooth-aching sweetness in which it is depicted, bare of any sex appeal whatsoever, becomes the main screen while fandom, personal history and curation blur out to tiny coloured dots, making the second half of the show rather boring. The philosophical parts are often too moralistic and the recovery from trauma way too quick and simplified. And the suits Ryan Gold had to wear... OMG, most of the time not my cup of tea, hers were nice but too much like a fashion show, ok in Suits, but not here, really.
In the last episode everything is closed up as usual.
I would have enjoyed the show much more if it had a better balance between the plot lines, between lightheartedness and weight, between overdressing and natural look. By limiting the overly sweet daily life, exploring passion (after all passion is central in fandom, relationship, art...), enhancing the process of remembering and reconciling with the past, giving more screen time to show the effects of it on art/performance, close the circle of the Cha Shi-A/fangirl relationship and limiting the side plots. Thus making the coloured dots bigger.
The show has it's good, sweet and funny moments and valuable and interesting parts I would have loved to see more of, but couldn't.

This drama was so amazing. I loved watching every single second of this drama. Their relationship is goals. The actors are so good at acting. They make it seem so real and you feel like you are there, watching them. I would really recommend for you guys to watch. I am a real person. :)

A new Director - Ryan Gold - arrives at an Art Museum and is not popular at first.
The Museum Curator - Deok - Mi is a fangirl of Shi-An - a boyband performer, and takes her fan girling to preposterous levels. Once again she wants to keep it secret for no real reason. She has a married female friend who is also a fangirl.
Ryan mistakes their relationship initially. (box ticked - virtue signalled - now lets get on with it).
Ryan has memories of an artwork of bubbles - the series of which he is trying to collect - Shi-an (who lives on the floor below) is also collecting them.
There is the usual fake relationship between the two leads for no real reason - which of course turns into a real relationship.
There are two flies in their ointment in the shape of the almost adoptive brother and Ryan's old female associate.
The storyline is thin - which is why one supposes so many threads need to be interwoven into it.
This is where the coincidences pile up into ridiculous levels.
There is a thread connecting Ryan - Shi-an - Deok-mi and her family which isn't remotely believable.
It is very odd how the three children are all the same age (7) when they are living in the same house and playing together but Deok-mi has no memory of them whereas her almost adopted brother has.
Ryan has a selective memory also.
If you aren't a fan of abstract art the ff button will come in very handy. It's anybody art these days.
Never mind - in keeping with Kdramas Ryan is a good kisser and the chemistry between them is ok - I wish she wouldn't grin so much though.
Worth a watch if there is nothing better to choose.
