Great so far, however...
sarcasm833 July 2023
I have loved this show so far and the acting and mysteries etc. Are definitely very cool.

However I am starting to get a little worried that this is going very much towards the "Lost" vibe.

While "Lost" was also a fantastic show in terms of acting, directing etc. In the very end what annoyed me was how much of the mystery was there just to be mysterious.

Watching the second season, I kept finding myself a tiny bit annoyed whenever yet another weird mystery was introduced, be it a symbol, object, thing, event... mainly because I can't stop myself from thinking "Will this be relevant in any way in the long run? Is this just one of those there's-a-mysterious-fog-creature or hatch or light etc. That is never mentioned again or explained in aaaany way, ever.

Because that kind of mystery writing eventually just ends up annoying me, since the writer can reach into their behind and pull out absolutely anything and never circle back to it.

"Ok next there's a llama in a red hat that whispers the words "paleontological" and "spatula"!" aand that's it, forgotten one season later, no explanation, it was just there to be weird.

Still, will keep on watching, but if this has an ending one day where it's just on the level of "it was all in his head!" and there is no attempt at even tying some theme-logic towards all of it, then consider this review at least 2-3 points lower...

They better make another season.
frankblack-7996119 April 2022
Very intriguing series. Good storytelling. Good characters as in most of them have common sense. Good horror tv. Gory as heck in parts. Lots of mysterious things to ponder. I very much enjoyed season 1 and hope they make another. There's not many good horror tv shows out there anymore. This is a good one imo.

I'm begging the creators of the show not to ruin it for us!
sarah-ameera199311 January 2024
This show was so so so much better than I expected. I thought that the whole premise didn't have much potential, but then it was something else. However, I am still left with so many questions that need to be answered especially after the last scenes of season 2 finale (which isn't necessarily a negative point). I just think that we deserved at least a few answers before having to wait for season 3. But I've got to say that after the finale, I was mind-blown!

I just hope that the creators of the show keep it at this level and why not even improve it. I'm tired of good shows getting completely messed up by creators. This one has potential. If all the questions are answered logically and interestingly, and if we get an intriguing ending which includes everybody going home, this will surely be one of the greatest shows out there.

Can't wait for the next season!
cekosmides26 December 2023
Way better than I thought it would be based on some of the negative reviews on here. So good that I binged the first two seasons during a long weekend. Can't wait for the third season to come out. Great premise for a show with some similarities to shows like Lost and Wayward Pines, but different enough that it didn't feel like I was watching the same show. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys horror/mystery type shows with some gore. Very enjoyable and fun watch. I just hope it gets more seasons, or at least enough so we get answers to all of the questions I still have. One of the best shows I've seen in awhile.

Better Than Expected
Supermanfan-132 January 2024
I wasn't sure what to expect from From. I've read everything from it's like Lost to it's a generic horror version of Lost. Lost is one of my favorite shows ever and the reviews for this have been mostly positive so I figured I'd give it a try and I'm glad I did. I was hooked from the first episode to the last. I'm so glad they already renewed this because there are so many unanswered questions still. That's probably the only negative thing I have say about his show, that it didn't offer enough answers in the first season. It takes a little time to really get going but once it does you'll be addicted and want to binge it as quickly as possible.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this tv-series. It's like Lost and Supernatural hade a baby, a generic horror version of Lost. I was hooked from the first episode to the last, and season two ending is a hell of a cliffhanger. The the only negative thing I have say about his show is that it didn't offer enough answers in the first season. It takes a little time to really get into but once you do you'll be addicted and want to get more and more out form each episod as quickly as possible. Season two is were you get more answers and things starts really to kick off, Ive just finished season two and I can't wait for season three to come out.

I'm Hooked...Period!
syd990721 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's a slow burner, but it has me hooked. I want to know why these people are trapped in this town and who or what has trapped them. And Harold Perrineau just soaks up the oxygen when he's on-screen. He's such an excellent actor. And you truly want to know what his backstory is, especially with his son. I think if people just be patient and allow the story to unfold, there will be an excellent pay-off. Lost was slow like this and it ultimately became a hit. I like for a story to unfold slowly so we can develop a sense of knowing who these characters are and in this case, what is stalking them and why.

A Tale of Two Completely Different Seasons
shuswap-8355728 June 2023
Well Season 1 was really quite good with a great mystery that held my interest. It echoes reminders of the long running tv series Lost but set in a small hamlet off the beaten path along a lost highway. So the acting is great, good character development along with a creepy story of dead ghosts who only come out after dark. The real problem here is when the 2nd season kicks off and you soon realize the writers are out of ideas so they'll just turn the show into a quarrelsome soap opera of bickering villagers. The story devolves into nonsense and not much plot to follow as different folks go through the motions of how to escape their hellish town. And the ending is just a totally cheap copout. You'll be wanting to throw a brick at your TV when you see the last scene. Yikes, it's so poorly done it makes you feel you wasted your time watching the series. Therein lies the rub.

Still too many questions
Rob13312 July 2023
Even though there's still too many unanswered questions and season 2 hasn't been quite as good as the first season it's still worth watching. Overall, From is every bit as good as all the hype surrounding it. It was definitely a lot better than anything I was expecting. Even though there is horror and some gore in it, this show is so much more than just some horror show. I know a lot of reviews have compared it to Lost and while it's nowhere near as good as that show I can see where they get the comparison. It's a very clever show that has a lot of unknown and mystery to it. Every answer we get just leads to more questions and I'm worried that there's going to be more questions than answers but so far it has been a fun show to watch. I just started the second season and while not quite as good it continues to entertain.

Lots of made up drama "filler"
anthonyiaclaims24 June 2023
I like the idea of the series but way too much made up drama and filler from lazy writing. The director is a big problem as they do things like have the little boy get a severe leg injury. The kid isn't horrible but he can't use a crutch or limp to save his life. Not really the kids fault, he hasn't built up the coordination to do it. But how is it that episode after episode we watch him limp on the wrong leg, use the crutch on the wrong side and or leg? At some point don't you go another direction? Why couldn't the mother (who is possibly the worst actor in the show) be the one with the injury? Anyone but the kid who can't do it? Then you have the boss lady of Colony house. She somehow manages to remain angry and fat for years even though the food is 90% plants. She seems to believe that the loudest person in every situation is the correct one which is almost never the case in life. More lazy writing, everyone who ever holds a knife and gets touched or grabbed automatically spins and "accidentally" stabs the person behind them! This is used several times- sooooooo lazy and unlikely. The Sheriff, his son and his son's girlfriend along with the paramedic do a good job for the most part, but it's easy to see they won't ever resolve how to get home because that would be the end. They are going to milk this until it dies- the ending will either be just fading to black with no answers or a planned ending which this does not appear to have. My recommendation is to watch a few of the 1st series, then wait to see how they tie it up. Why invest yourself in a series that appears to be going nowhere?

A Disappointing Series That Lost Its Way
tmbarbara9 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This series had a promising and captivating start but gradually lost its sense of direction with each episode. What began as an intriguing horror/mystery show turned into a run-of-the-mill drama, focusing too much on arguments and personal problems instead of the interesting story it had initially set up. The emphasis on a pointless wedding, the love life of the doctor and her girlfriend, as well as the excessive drama in a family with two children, added to the series' downfall.

Unfortunately, some of the actors didn't deliver strong performances, further contributing to the show's decline. The second season feels repetitive, with each episode being almost identical and lacking fresh storylines or exciting twists. Moreover, the constant use of the same curse word felt lazy it's getting boring. You can watch one episode from season 2, and that's it, you have seen it all.

Despite the disappointment, there are a couple of characters that stand out. Boyd carries the series with his compelling performance, and the IT guy added some intrigue as he tries to make sense of what is happening. Fatima, Tabitha and her children just add unnecessary drama.

In summary, this series started with promise but it's losing its way. The shift from horror to drama and the lack of originality left me disappointed and questioning whether it is worth continuing to watch.

EDIT: Last two episodes from season 2 are actually really good. There are finally getting somewhere with resolving mysteries. Hope there will be next season but with less fillers epizodes.

It's gonna be LOST all over again, isn't it?
Smarmelade8 May 2023
Few episodes in of season 2 and I'm getting pretty annoyed wtih this show.

Just like LOST, mysteries are piling up, but not one single resolution, hint of an answer and explanation or even a move in forward direction is presented. For Season 2, they just expanded all that by dumping much more people in it.

While I can excuse first season slow burn and lack of any satisfying anwers - and I mean lack of ANY - the stuff they pulled in the last episode with various cliffhangers and possible revelations, just fell apart in episode one of this season.

Almost anything that is happening is not important for the main plot. Character arcs are mostly empty, uninteresting. Those same characters act like most irrational, uninterested and dumbest people alive.

Everything is tropey, boring and tempo of each episode is criminal. Just when you think something is going to happen, to propel story and plot forward - it ends. Then in the next episode it turns out it's nothing of importance and it just goes like that in circles. It's all filler.

Even damn intro is lasting forever, eating time.

Some shows have a overall arc that is just a backdrop for all the happenings in the show. Like Leftovers, and it works. Here however, there is really only one plot point of interest and everything else is unimportant filler and fluff. Yet they insist on that instead dealing with the main plot. Even things concerning the main plot are fed us via teaspoon in the worst, unsatisfactory way possible. Even then, time between those is pretty damn long time.

I don't know if I'm going to finish season 2, but it's getting pretty frustrating. Which is a shame, because main plot is interesting, but I'm suspecting that except that main concept, they have no sensible or satisfying resolution and are just going to string us around until either show gets cancelled or we get some dumb, slapped on ending, just for the sake of ending it.

For the time being, I can't recommend.

Great storytelling
tabithajkinney26 December 2023
I don't usually have the patience to sit through a movie, much less a series, but this one has me hooked. The story itself is so different from anything I've seen and has great pacing. The acting is pretty great, and the characters are memorable. I love the mystery horror focus, and the bizarre monster aspect is refreshing. Every episode has something important in it, without anything feeling rushed. Even the world building feels solid. You're given enough information and time to guess what's going to happen next, only to get hit with a twist in almost every episode. This series is intriguing and addictive and I think it's wildly underrated. I love this series and would absolutely recommend it to fans of the monster horror genre.

Horror, suspense and excitement
SeaStar111111 December 2023
I really enjoyed watching the suspense and excitement series (from) the first two somewhat boring episodes...and then you quickly enter the atmosphere of the series in your mind and enjoy remaining on the edge of your seat most of the time anticipating what will happen and what is coming.

The cost of the series is not high, but the directing is excellent and the actors' performances are as well... The truth is that it is an excellent work that reminds me of the masterpiece The Walking Dead, In terms of anticipation and mystery...but in this series, always expect the unexpected.

I hope that the third part will arrive soon so that we can enjoy watching.

Excellent horror series which keeps you guessing
fatfil-414-45179724 March 2022
I am really enjoying this series, really hanging out for every episode. Very surprised by the negative comments and reviews, calling it boring. I found it anything but, great acting, and an excellent script. Perhaps it's the Squid Game generation, just wanting to see lots of poeple killed for no particular reason other than greed, and not having to think too hard. Granted there isn't much action in the first couple of episodes, but lots for character building and back story which is intriguing. It's hard to say too much without givng things away, but lots of twists and turns and shocks along the way. If you enjoy good storytelling with, despite comments to the contary, plenty of horror and shocks thrown in, this is highly recommended.

I never heard of this until a few weeks ago
Kelly-13026 April 2023
I never heard of this until a few weeks ago until I saw a promo for Season 2 so I decided to give it a shot.

I've finished the first 7 episodes so far and I'm hooked.

I can't wait to see where it goes. Hopefully the writers had a story arc in mind when they first started so we don't get into a LOST situation where the show just starts spinning it's wheels without any direction.

I should have the last 3 episodes of Season 1 completed by the weekend. Then I can start Season 2.

How do I see so many short reviews when I have to keep typing and typing to get to the minimum number of characters?

Unbelievably frustrating
robhall_ie11 September 2022
Godammit the pretext of the series is very intriguing but the delivery is very annoying. I don't care about the people and their growing relationships. All the while they are leading ordinary lives nobody is trying to figure out what the enemy are & how to beat them.

The electricity thing is just stupidly odd. It's just a totally random thing thrown in to a supernatural plot. None of them are trying to apply any logic to the situation and find ways out.

Food is magically plentiful in the local restaurant. I mean come on. It's treating the audience line idiots at this point (last episode).

I wont watch a second series unless someone tells me something actually happens in it. Yet another series with oodles of potential dies on the heap of crap drama bs.

After long time i have watched this kind of horror/thriller genre series after Dark. This series hold you up till the series end. Season one is the best one it will engage you throughout the show however second series is quite slow but quite good. This is horror/thriller genre as well as you can see a family bonding relation. The way this series hold you up is quite amazing, in some place i was just holding my breath. This series is still yet to go, there will be lot more coming up in next season and i am eagerly waiting for that. I will recommend you all to experience this show. You will not regret it.

Ending? What ending?
I enjoyed this initially. It was a reasonably decent storyline, it was watchable, it even had a few jump scenes in there. Then it seemed to slide. The situations became more illogical and nothing really seemed to happen or make any sense. Still, I persevered.

Plus sides include the cinematography and soundtrack and for most of the first episodes having a solid scare factor. Negatives include an increasing amount of illogical storylines, nothing really being answered and average acting.

My real issue is with episode 10, the season finale. What??!! This did not in any way feel like the ending of a series. To the point that, five minutes before the end, I'm thinking maybe I've got it wrong and there are more episodes. But no. The episode runs its course and it ends. Nothing is explained. No loose ends are tied up. There are no answers. There is no cliffhanger ending. There is - nothing.

This makes more sense now I know it was written by the same people who wrote Lost. A series that started off well and quickly degenerated into long drawn-out confusion. The world does not need another Lost. Also, this series does not have the same kind of impact that Lost had initially - it will not survive a long drawn-out Lost-style treatment.

To the person (elizrug) who mentioned Avery Konrad's Wikipedia page - I took a look and yes, you were right! Very sloppy, incorrect syntax all over the place. I suspect written by someone who has English as a 3rd or 4th language rather than a 10 year old - too many basic errors. Although that is not really relevant to the series itself.

Would I recommend somebody to watch this? Overall - yes, if you like the genre. But there are better alternatives.

Better than I expected.
aubuchon21 February 2022
The preview looked like a hodgepodge of several different shows like Wayward Pines ,Lost and a little Under the Dome thrown in. I expected it to have a vague storyline after seeing that it's produced by the same makers as Lost but it has a solid storyline and the characters are likable. While not perfect, it does have suspense and is good enough to keep me hooked. A pleasant surprise.

Its not where its "from"...its where its "going"
s327616912 April 2022
"From" started out with a promising premise, reminiscent of series like "Lost".

Its cause was helped by solid casting and well rounded characterisations. Where it falls down, as is so often the case, is in its storytelling.

From feels like its written itself into a corner, with logic pot holes that can be not be filled in or explained away.

In other words, its not where this series is from its where its going. As its stands, there appears to be no clear destination in sight. Which might help to explain the rather aimless end to the first season.

I'll take a look at a second season, if there is one. I do predict, however, its going to be hard to overcome the unnecessary literary chains, this series has wrapped itself in.

What happened to this show...
guinden6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show was interesting intriguing from the first episode. I felt like maybe a worthy show after Lost...

Season one was ok they built some questions and even added a few more at the end but season 2..

I'm nearly at the point of giving up watching this cause season 2 is absolutely boring. Nobody gives a crap about lesbian relationships, pointless chats of family members useless love interests it went almost to a point already when the Ghouls are used as props time to time just to show them they are exist..

In the first 5 6 episodes nothing is happening, nothing! Talking talking talking boring chats more questions more riddles nothing revealed so far and i have a feeling the writers have zero idea how to finish or explain things. So whenever something feels like explained they just skip it and comes 2 more unexplainable one..

But the worst part of season 2 is the meaningless filler episodes or dialogues which lead to absolutely nowhere usually or even asking the same thing or reacting to the same thing sometimes through 2 3 episodes.

I bet this show will be cancelled after season 2 and we will have zero answers to anything cause even the writers have no clue what to do with it...

So far so good except the drama
jhsanford-7626429 December 2023
This show has a great premise. Seems to be the mixture of many good shows and stories. From I Am Legend to Under the Dome to Nightmare on Elm Street to Stranger Things, and many more.

The drama between the two lesbians ruins the show though. I know the almost full episodes of their drama is meant to satisfy the LGBQT+whatever, but it adds absolutely nothing to the show or the story. It is just plugged in to be 'diverse'.

They do have issues with introducing things in the show for a few episodes and then not returning to them as if they did not ever happen.

I am through all of the episodes now and waiting on season 3. I'll just have to continue fast forwarding through all of the unnecessary lesbian drama.

A Very Suspenseful Psychological Horror Thriller
JSmithFromBackEast22 March 2023
If you liked the early seasons of Lost, early Wayward Pines season 1 when it was still mysterious, Society, early The Walking Dead and so on I think it's worth at least the seven day free trial of MGM Plus to try the first couple of episodes out and you may end up really enjoying the whole season as I did.

As others have mentioned, I felt the need to binge it straight through from beginning to end in a couple of sittings which I haven't felt the desire to do with a show in quite a while.

As others have also pointed out, some of the minor characters' acting is a bit lacking, the budget is clearly tighter than desired while not being too tight, and the plot may ultimately end up going nowhere, but for now I am still definitely looking forward to season 2.

Definitely worth watching.
stuart-0669312 December 2023
I binged watched season 1&2.

Yeah some of the characters can be a little annoying but overall it's got enough scare and interesting story line to keep me glued to the tv.

That's not as easy accompaniment.

I get why people are saying about Lost. It's because it gives more questions than answers.

But I got bored in lost by season 2 because it was more about the individual lives than the story. And the story line went stupid.

I'm not convinced From is far losing this story form factor.

The show has an intriguing premise that draws inspiration from other sci-fi horror classics, such as The Twilight Zone, and The X-Files.

They better do a season 3 at least or I'm done with these type tv shows.

The show also suffers from some flaws that prevent it from reaching its full potential. The show has a slow pace and a lack of character development, especially for the Matthews family, who are supposed to be the main protagonists. The show relies too much on jump scares and gore, rather than building tension and horror through the story and the setting. The show also has some plot holes and inconsistencies that undermine the logic and the credibility of the show.
