Just another typical Netflix romance movie...
junziuk24 July 2020
This may be shocking for you, but I actually found the first movie of this franchise quite enjoyable. However, in the sequel, The Kissing Booth loses all of its quirky charms, which replaced by factors that makes a typical Netflix coming of age romance movie, cliche and predictable.

Zero character evolution
uzzie-357-5165799 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Elle still is as insecure as ever. Always makes the worst assumption about others, especially Noah where she's basically looking for something to be upset with despite him already proving it from the first movie that he was sincere and more.

Lee still being a whiny person about "Elle not daring to apply to another school" as if he owns her and decides life. He would even break up with Rachel if Elle didn't like her. Grow a darn spine and have some brains already for goodness sakes.

Rachel still being nice but seeing she can't compete with Elle in many ways which makes sense as Elle, is doing exactly what she accuses Noah of doing.

However of course she can do whatever she wants in her narcissistic way of life because it's all about her and Lee. Lee doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to thinking for himself.

Similar to the first but more annoying because none of them learned anything. Elle was insecure in the first movie and that made sense. Now? It's just beyond annoying and "oh but you have to see it from her point" still. Again, that's the only accepted way.

Pretty ridiculous really that Lee is also still so ignorant about anything else too in several ways.

It's a sequel, not a continuation where nothing fundamental changes. At least some character evolution would've been good.

You know what's gonna happen but you watch it anyway

Warning: Spoilers
Every teen movie sequel netflix has been chewing out somehow follows the same tropes. Introducing new guy we've never seen before (in TALBILB 2 it was John Ambrose) to shake things up. As the movie progresses the main female grows further apart from her boyfriend due to misunderstandings and what have you and grows closer to the 2nd love interest. They have undeniably chemistry and the movie makes you want to root for them instead of her and her boyfriend. They share a kiss and you think it's a done deal she obviously have feelings for John Ambrose/Marco but no. He's not the one she's in love with after all. The female protagonist realises her feelings in the end (cue running towards each other scene), clears up the misunderstandings and it's happy ever after all over again. The John Ambrose/Marco character's sole purpose is to sway her feelings and in the end make her realise her feelings for Peter/Noah are true and worth fighting for. The fact that Noah's on the film poster and not Marco made it clear from the start that Marco was never going to be the one for Elle. Sigh. I really liked him.

What I did like was the friendship between Elle and Lee it's probably the best part of the movies.

The kissing booth 2
dilipbts19 August 2020
I'll be honest; I went into The Kissing Booth 2 expecting it to be terrible. Instead, I got a movie that was better than the original, although that isn't saying much. It is the rare sequel that is stronger than the original, and I was pretty interested in it throughout. Elle makes some smart decisions in this movie, and each one of them is really satisfying to watch (especially tricking Marco into playing that dance game). The Elle in the original Kissing Booth wouldn't have done that, and it's nice to see how she's grown as a character. Additionally, it was hard to see where the plot was going. I never really could predict what would happen between Elle and Marco, or Elle and Noah for that matter. These are some of the things for this movie that I liked.

Definitely better than the first one!
isabelletondkar24 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, it's almost as good as a teen rom-com can be in this day and age. I can't say that it's better than To all the boys I've loved before, because I really loved that movie and the second one. But Kissing booth 2 was better than Kissing booth and in my opinion it had a good storyline.

I really loved Marco as a character; totally awesome guy, really handsome and actually deserved better. He was always there for Elle and really sweet to her and if I'm being honest I wanted him to end up with her. I love Elle and Noah together but there's a reason she caught feeling for someone else while in a relationship. Lee was, as always, funny but annoying. I've never really liked him and he gets too personal with things and never knows what to do and how to fix it. But I guess that a part of being a teenager huh? I can't really decide if I liked the character of Chloe or not. She was beautiful and funny but at the beginning it seemed like she had bad intentions and I feel like she could've cleared up the confusion then and there. So, the characters were good and their storylines too, at least better than in the first one. I enjoyed how they all, at some point, had scenes together and they really complimented each other.

I would say though that the movie was a bit too long and there was a lot of fillers. Like unnecessary scenes and information that they could've skipped. Storylines that were just a bit too boring at times, for example the whole Rachel and Lee thing that was just dragged out for way too long. I guess that was the point because it was one of the main storylines, but I didn't really enjoy it. It didn't really make sense why Lee couldn't just tell Elle and Rachel the truth from the start but the other storylines made up for it.

I've gotta give it to the writers this time though. It wasn't at all as cringey as the first one! I cringed maybe 3 times where there was uncomfortable scenes that could've been avoided with better writing. But the writing has improved a lot and the actors too, since the first movie. Joey King was actually good this time around, I guess she's learned from her mistakes.

Anyways, I'll give it a 7/10 because I gave the last one 6/10 and as I've said a couple of times now; this one was better. I recommend it if you like teen rom-coms!

Horrendous
addeisdead5 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First off, who thought a cheesy teen romance comedy needed to be two hours and 12 minutes long? That's 17 minutes longer than the first Thor movie! My wife wanted to watch this tonight, so I reluctantly agreed. She announced about an hour into it that she couldn't watch anymore, and I was elated.

The performances by the actors are the only somewhat bearable thing about this garbage. Beyond that, this movie makes zero sense and seems to have been written by people who don't know anything about the real world.

Example: When 17 year old what's her name goes to visit her 18-19 year old boyfriend at Harvard, they casually walk into a bar, order some beers and hang out toasting with some old guys. No one is carded. No one stops to wonder if the girl who barely looks 15 might be old enough to be throwing back some brews.

Oh, and let's not overlook the fact that everyone in these movies seems to have expensive homes in nice neighborhoods and go to a top-flight prep school, but the girl's dad constantly acts like they're poor and he can barely afford to send her to college.

There's just a lot of really bad, nonsensical writing like that throughout this movie. The writers must have knocked this out in an afternoon, or maybe it was written by some AI software. I don't know. I do know even my wife was yelling at the TV and the characters for their constant buffoonery and childish behavior.

Another thing I find really uneven about this movie and the just slightly better first movie is how they're basically the same tone, maturity and production of a Disney Channel or TeenNick production, but then out of nowhere they disrupt the relative wholesomeness of it with a couple of F-bombs and sex scenes that don't belong. Imagine you were watching an episode of Austin & Ally with your kids and suddenly Ross Lynch told someone to eff off and Laura Marano stripped down to her bra and hopped in bed with a guy. That's basically what these movies are. I have to imagine they had the movie shot and in the bag and some executive producer came in and told them to dirty it up a little. It's just odd.

WATCH THE FILM FOR YOURSELF BEFORE COMMENTING STAN TWITTER DRAMA!
jadek-0021124 July 2020
In all honestly, I know a ton of people from stan twitter are gonna come after a lot of people for reviewing this and not like what I have to say, but this is an honest review section that doesn't apply to their online platform. Caution SLIGHT SPOILER: Yes, there is one very brief scene where a distasteful joke is made about Bieber's appearance from the time he was suffering from lyme disease (an onstage amateur comedian calls out his "trucker look"). It's a cheap shot at comedy, but not as offensive as they are making it out to be, plus it doesn't draw out and is said in a light fashion, but the scene itself is said in a stand-up comedy bar, which are KNOWN for being offensive and pushing boundaries. They are not meant to appease you or make you comfortable, its meant to be controversial and they target every person regardless of their circumstance, it's not an isolated occasion for Bieber. It's been done for literal years and it's stupid that people are flipping out over it even to the point of harassing people who weren't involved, yes seriously, people are that obsessed. It's amazing that in a film like this that carries misogynistic messages for its young viewers that people would be the most upset over this trivial thing. Mind you this was part of a montage scene so it only appears for less than TWO SECONDS and is a throwaway line so I have no idea why people are so pressed. Just because it's making fun of bieber do people (especially fangirls) feel the need to be angry about it, and no even if he was a woman (like one "review" stated, there would not be outrage like this), remember Britney and Lindsey in 2007? No one sticking up for them when they clearly had drug and mental health problems, these people are just hypocrites who like to complain because they are obsessed with a celebrity who doesn't know they exist. Just keep this in mind before you choose to watch or not because it is ridiculous to boycott a film like this just because you get "offended" over a joke that doesn't add or impact the storyline. Wish people would think for themselves and not just listen to everything twitter tells them. Anyway, the film itself is definitely an improvement from the last one, the storyline is more compelling and the acting was definitely better, but somehow is slightly more cringey in many aspects and I think the Kissing booth theme is kind of irrelevant for this plot and left messy at the end.

Wasted Potential
cheyenneoreo27 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For Kissing Booth 2, it did not live up to the hype it was creating. Full of clichès, stripped of character development, etc. Most can argue teen rom coms have clichès in the writing but the story was predictable within the first twenty minutes of the film. Furthermore, in my opinion, there was no real message of the story besides there's always ups and downs in a relationship. It was unrealistic. However, the one character I did generally like was Marco. He was a breath of fresh air and had great potential. I wish the screen writers hadn't done him dirty like that cause he generally deserved more than he got. The situation between Lee and Rachel was intriguing but what took me out of it was Rachel's character. She was annoying and overreacted way to much. I did like how this plot did have a bit of mature moments but that cliff hanger was not needed. I believe there was various ways this movie could have lived up to its hype if the plot was rewritten.

Enjoyable
choux-6799224 July 2020
The movie is what it's suppose to be. I wasn't disappointed by it. I had a good time while watching. Might feel a bit unreal, but it's a teenager movie and it's amusing and shows that sometimes people have a hard time communicate but in the end they manage to solve their issues by doing it. Think it was a bit better than the first, and the fact it add other people and stories in between, wasn't at all a problem to me, it was better that way. There was more to see, instead of just focusing on Lee, Elle and Noah. I really think people shouldn't be bashing the movie over a bad line in it. It wasn't their brightest moment, but don't think it was on purpose, people are just taking it way too serious. Nowadays everyone mocks with everything and do a lot worse, so I really don't think there is a reason to be bashing the movie this way.

Still bad
bethaneva27 July 2020
I didn't like the first one very much, but watched the second one anyway (my fault I guess!) I hoped it would be better but is dumb, too long (over 2 hours!) and very predictable. There was also possibly the cringiest sentence ever uttered in a romcom EVER! I'll probably still watch the 3rd one when it comes out, but only because I really hope Elle and Lee will FINAL realise how PERFECT they together as they have the best chemistry by far.

Cringy, Awkward and Childish

2 ⭐'s

The first one was cute because Joey and Jacob were in love on camera so the movie was kind of magical.

This one was so bad. They were so awkward around each other, even 'by the phone', it was hard to watch. Their interactions were just too cringy and uncomfortable.

The plot was meh. The love triangle or square was done horribly.

The 2 ⭐'s were for Joey and Joel, they were awesome together. They should have gone to that direction a.k.a. best friends to lovers. It would have been much nicer.

I think this was a cute movie just like the first one..The actors still look too old to be playing teenagers. All of them are in their 20's and look it....still this was a cute rom com. I enjoyed it....

An unfiltered review fo KB2....
PerryAtTheMovies25 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Don't go into this film thinking it'll be "great" because then you'll be disappointed, however, this film is equally as good as the first, my rating for KB1- 6/10. It's filled with the emotional rollercoaster that goes with any romantic comedy type movie. This time it's a little less cheesy and the on-screen chemistry is stronger and less awkward. It's worth watching if you enjoyed part 1.

The 1star Ratings are actually garbage. The Bieber part that every JB fan is crying about makes me realize that jokes are hard to take. The dude says, "You are a good-looking couple. You look like Justin Bieber before he started being a trucker." Coming from someone with depression, we get it, sickness and depression take a toll on the body, but that's not a reason to rate this movie 1 star.

Unrealistic and unhealthy portrayal of teenage life
a24wang30 July 2020
HAVE THEY LEARNED NOTHING FROM THE FIRST MOVIE?? i can't believe this was even worse, i honestly feel so sorry for the 13 year olds that are gonna gobble up this movie like it's free cake or something (as much as i hate to admit it, i probably would've been one of them). the way these kinds of movies depict high school is honestly just so UNHEALTHY; it's as if high school was THE MOST important part in life and as if the relationships you have in high school were the ones! that! will! define! you! for! life! which is why they're obviously complete life-and-death situations! the characters are so unrealistic and pretentious, and the dialogues (unsurprisingly) made me feel uncomfortable as hell. i bet the casting call for marco was just "must look exactly like jacob elordi with darker hair". and don't even get me started on the MONTAGES. it's almost as if at some point they ran out of cringy dialogues, so they just opted for cringy montages with even cringier music instead. I ABSOLUTELY LOST IT AT THE MONTAGE OF ALL THE ADMISSION OFFICERS READING ELLE'S ESSAY AND LOOKING LIKE THEY JUST INHALED A FRESH BREEZE OF MOUNTAIN AIR, SAW THE BLUEST SKY, HAD THEIR SOULS CLEANSED AND REDISCOVERED THEIR WILL TO LIVE.

Fun, enjoyable movie
layaleimdb3 August 2020
What I liked most about this movie is how mature it is for a teen genre.

The story offers nothing new but what's new and smart seems to lie in how each character handled every situation. The story is also very much relatable.

I feel Joey King is going to have a promising career in the teen genre we like. She's very normal and she doesn't over do it. She delivered the role perfectly.

Lee is so adorable and I really began to forget they were acting seeing how real their chemistry was.

I really had a soft spot for the new faces Marco and Chloe. Chloe just owns it. She has this awesome personality and I was sure she was going to keep it til the end of the movie. Marco showed nothing but sweetness and I could tell by his last words "yes, she is" that there is going to be a third part and he's going to be in it.

All in all, I rarely have fun watching a movie I usually keep my focus and forget to just enjoy it... but this one was indeed a blast!

WASTE OF 2 HOURS
sarahkieke27 July 2020
This movie is the complete opposite of the first one. The first one I would give a 9/10. This movie was so bad! Could not tell what the plot was the entire time. Everything was so random. Not heartwarming like the first one. Literally trash. Atleast they have two really attractive actors in it. That is what kept me watching for the entire 2 hours of this terrible movie. I would never recommend watching this movie to anyone. The lessons of it are very bad and young brains should not learn these ways of life. All in all, # 2 on my list of worst movies I have ever seen following Hereditary.

F.U.N!
angdebruin24 July 2020
There are so many reasons to enjoy this sequel, one being that the female lead has such a likeable character. She's fun, quirky and really believable. I find that the movie has multiple relatable situations that I think many of us have experienced at one point or another in our lives. It had a good storyline and message regaring how young adults fall under pressure figuring out their uncertain future. All in all it was a smiling, enjoyable, decent movie to watch on a Friday night. It's as good as you can get for an American teenage romcom.

Stupid movie waste of time
azfaralam26 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wasted 2.5 hrs for nothing. First you can't how stupid elle evans character was. Marco totally helped in her achievements still she ditched him and returned back to noah. What was the writer thinking. Marco should have been paired in the end. I think netflix did this to keep the franchise alive for part 3

Hi there:)) Really great actually!
djzhelyazkova24 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why so much people in the reviews are so mean about the comment about Justin Bieber's disease. Actually that is not the whole idea for the sequel. But this is my opinion so I can't change people's mind. I think that the movie is better than the first one. Is it more interesting and the acting is so much better. The thing that I didn't like is that Elle chose Noah over Marco. I know that Elle and Noah was so cute together, but Elle and Marco had to be endgame. The whole time Pena was there for her and then she chose Noah. Maybe it will be more fascinating and it was going to be more dramatic, if she chose Marco. Other than this the film was very good and I am going to expect the Kissing Booth 3 with Elle's decision.

Better than the first
Film_star29 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is a predictable but charming and professional teen rom-com. In truth I found it better than the first, though I'm fairly certain it didn't need to be 132 minutes long (few comedies justify this running time, and often they diminish their successes in trying).

As with the first movie, the real triumphs here aren't even in the headline romance; but rather in the execution of the narrative barriers and the positive presentation of platonic mixed-sex friendship.

Without being familiar with the source material, in advance I would've put money on my expectation that - at some point during one of these movies - these two best friends who have perfect chemistry and mutual commitment, would've realised that they were in love with each other. That this never happens is hugely positive; the characters are absolutely clear in their friendship. The introduction here of another platonic friendship for Noah is a narrative curveball that doesn't play out the way you'd expect either. Good!

Whilst a subplot about a peripheral character wrestling with his sexuality feels like narrative padding with an idealised outcome that probably wouldn't ever happen in real life - that it happens here and will be seen by young people matters. Likewise, the wisdom of the college interviewer (essentially: don't try to give us who you think we want you to be) is a great takeaway for younger fans.

It's by no means a great or particularly memorable movie, but it's an enjoyable enough watch, and well performed by a spirited cast. I'm unconvinced we need a third instalment though.

The 2 stand for the two hours of pain
rileygt27 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was just painful to watch at points, why did they have to make this movie? Lee's girlfriend is the worst character ever and Elle doesn't get with the hot Hispanic guy at the end. The best way to sum of this movie is 2 hours of pure pain.
