Quotes

  • Nia Nal : No, Hannibal Lecter. He eats people.

    Querl Dox : Miranda Priestly.

Nia Nal : Miranda Priestly? Are you serious?

Querl Dox : I'm as serious as the pursed lips of Miranda Priestly.

Nia Nal : [seeing Alex and Kara]  Okay, good, you guys can help me prove a point. Who is the greatest movie villain of all time?

Kara Danvers : [answering simultaneously]  Voldemort.

    Alex Danvers : Hans Gruber.

Nia Nal : Impressively unhelpful. Well, I guess you'll just have to accept that I'm right.

Querl Dox : Hmm. This Earth custom that the girlfriend is always right is illogical and-and frustrating, but I can assimilate.

  • Supergirl : I'm guessing this alien didn't want just another ride. Kryptonian pods use anti-matter to propel them through space. And I know it's a long shot, but... can the engine be used...

Querl Dox : To make a bomb? It would require great skill and enormous resources. But it is possible.

    Alex Danvers : How destructive?

Querl Dox : Strong enough to destroy all life across three solar systems.

    Alex Danvers : Oh, well...

Querl Dox : We face an even graver problem. Supergirl's cape has been destroyed!

Alex Danvers : [sarcastic]  Oh, yes, uh... I totally forgot about the risk to life across three solar systems.

Querl Dox : This is no time for sarcasm, however dry or well-crafted. Supergirl's cape is uniquely suited for the needs of high-speed superhero manuevers. And believe me, when a Farfarmniflatch is pursuing you across the poisonous prison pits of Takron-Galtos, you will wish for those heady days of old when your cape allowed you for an easy sharp right turn. Oh, yes. I... I shall repair your cape. And we will forget this sartorial disaster ever occurred.

  • Kara Danvers : [after bumping into a glassy-eyed patron at restaurant]  What is going on with these people? They're completely oblivious.

J'onn J'onzz : By their silver eyes, I would say that they were Slattorians. A race of aliens I came across during an investigation.

Alex Danvers : Oh, your P.I. powers of deduction are failing you, J'onn J'onzz. The silver eyes are courtesy of Obsidian North.

    J'onn J'onzz : Isn't that the company you're working for, Kelly?

Kelly Olsen : Today is my official first day. Those are augmented reality contact lenses that we're beta testing. The people with the silver eyes that are staring at the void above the cashier? They're actually looking at a virtual menu. I'll show you.

    [showing them her tablet]

Kelly Olsen : So, when you wear the contact lenses, you're linked to tons of people on a social media platform, and they can connect without saying a word.

Alex Danvers : [shyly]  Kind of like you and me.

Kara Danvers : [comical tone]  You guys are so cute. But those contact lenses creep me out. Just call me when you can register to vote with a gesture. 'Cause look, there's about to be a special election, and did you know that voter registration is down? People don't wanna pay attention to what's happening the real world.

  • Supergirl : [seeing a dinosaur on a rampage at the museum]  Well, this new and terrible.

  • Midnight : There is no hiding from Midnight, murderer of multitudes.

Supergirl : I'm Kara Zor-El. My mother put many prisoners in the Phantom Zone; I assume you're here for me. But don't take your fury out on this planet just because she locked you up.

    J'onn J'onzz : Your mother didn't lock her up. I did.

  • Kelly Olsen : In my new job, I am gonna be using Obsidian's VR tech to heal the brains of dementia and PTSD patients.

Kara Danvers : Touché. I'm a curmudgeon. Your new job sounds amazing, and I'm so glad we're working in the same building. Big Belly Burger lunches.

J'onn J'onzz : Ooh, look at the time. I gotta fly, guys. I'm teaching a tai chi class to a group of kids.

    Alex Danvers : Oh, that's wonderful, J'onn.

J'onn J'onzz : Yeah, I'm living with clarity and purpose. It's gonna be great.

Kelly Olsen : You know what would not be great is me being late for my first day.

  • Alex Danvers : Hey, how did it go with Lena last night? I mean, I'm dying to hear.

    [seeing her face]

Alex Danvers : Oh, no. I know that face. Are you ser... you didn't say anything? You didn't tell her?

Kara Danvers : It's not my fault. I had to take the dog to the vet.

Alex Danvers : You don't have a dog, Kara.

Kara Danvers : My neighbor's dog. Mrs. Stein.

Alex Danvers : Oh, come on.

Kara Danvers : She needed my help.

  • Lena Luthor : I guess that's your cue. Supergirl.

Supergirl : [taking off her glasses, her super suit materializes]  Pants!

  • Alex Danvers : You have to tell Lena that you're Supergirl.

    Kara Danvers : But...

Alex Danvers : When I told you to hold off, I just meant for one night.

Kara Danvers : But there's been so much going on. I-I'm covering the special election, and-and with the dog, and I'm helping you recover all those prisoners from the DEO desert facility.

Alex Danvers : And the DEO and I very much appreciate that. But you're doing all these other things when there's just one thing that you need to do.

Kara Danvers : I know. I've just put it off for so long, and now... I'm being given an award for my tireless pursuit of the truth, and I'm a liar. I'm terrible.

Alex Danvers : You're not terrible. You're just scared.

Kara Danvers : I am so scared. I'm so scared that she's never gonna forgive me, Alex. I mean, what kind of person lies to their best friend for this long?

Alex Danvers : Look, I... have told you a gazillion times, you are the bravest person that I know. Okay? So be brave and tell her.

Kara Danvers : You're right. Yeah, we're having lunch today. I-I'll tell her today.

Alex Danvers : Good. I believe in you.

  • Kara Danvers : Can I help you?

Andrea Rojas : Not unless you brought a light meter. This office is in dire need of solar window treatments.

Kara Danvers : I'm sorry, who are you?

Andrea Rojas : Oh, my god, I am so rude.

    [shaking hands]

Andrea Rojas : Andrea Rojas. And you?

    Kara Danvers : Kara Danvers.

Andrea Rojas : Kara? Such a pleasure. I'm a big fan.

Kara Danvers : Oh, that's very kind of you. Uh... and did you say Rojas, as in Obsidian North?

Andrea Rojas : The one and only.

Kara Danvers : Right. Uh, well, I'm sorry, Ms. Rojas, I think the elevator dropped you off on the wrong floor. Obsidian's one down.

Andrea Rojas : Oh, my goodness. Lena didn't tell you, did she?

James Olsen : [entering]  Didn't tell her what?

Andrea Rojas : James Olsen. I am glad you're here. I'm a big admirer of yours. So don't think for one moment that I won't find a place for you here.

James Olsen : [confused]  Find a place for me here?

Andrea Rojas : I bought CatCo. Actually, I bought the whole building, but CatCo is the major acquisition. And I'm taking over as editor-in-chief.

  • Lena Luthor : Hey, is everything okay at CatCo? I have six missed calls from James.

Kara Danvers : Actually... Andrea Rojas showed up in his office about a half an hour ago saying she bought CatCo?

Lena Luthor : Why would she do that?

Kara Danvers : Oh, thank god. I told James and Nia there must have been a huge mistake.

Lena Luthor : It's not a mistake, Kara, I... sold CatCo to Andrea. She wasn't supposed to show up 'til tomorrow after you and I had had lunch.

  • Kara Danvers : You sold CatCo without telling any of us?

Lena Luthor : To be honest, Kara, I only bought the company because I knew how much it meant to you, and it's frankly left me strapped for capital, which I desperately need for a new venture that I'm working on. When Andrea called, it was just too good of an offer to pass up.

Kara Danvers : I... I had no idea. I completely understand.

Lena Luthor : Andrea and I go way back. I mean, since boarding school. And she is a brilliant businesswoman. I would not have sold her CatCo if I didn't think she would do a great job.

Kara Danvers : Oh, of course. Why didn't you tell me beforehand?

Lena Luthor : I was a coward. And I hope that you don't feel like I made you out to be too much of a fool by keeping you in the dark.

    Kara Danvers : No.

Lena Luthor : You're my best friend, and here I go, once again proving that you are more virtuous than I am. But I never did purport to be a saint.

  • Martian Manhunter : Alex said you might need my help.

Supergirl : Let's get the dino.

  • J'onn J'onzz : I've never experienced anything like it. That T-Rex must've caused some psychic paralysis.

Supergirl : Any intel on the dinosaur?

    Querl Dox : A shapeshifter.

    Alex Danvers : White Martian?

    J'onn J'onzz : No, I would have known.

  • Andrea Rojas : This room, look at this room. It's practically overflowing with talent. Journalism's best and brightest. And tomorrow, we'll be joined by the renowned William Day.

Kara Danvers : From the Times of London?

Andrea Rojas : Yes. Because as stacked as we are already, we can always be bigger. We can always be stronger. We can always be better. And together, we're gonna create a world-class news organization that drives consumer cross-platform engagement.

Nia Nal : I-I'm sorry, uh... consumer cross-platform...

Andrea Rojas : Engagement. Eyeballs, revenue. We're gonna take your already-brilliant work and we are gonna sharpen it until it's deadly, and we're gonna monetize it.

James Olsen : With all due respect, Ms. Rojas, we don't allow revenue to drive editorial decisions here.

Andrea Rojas : And it shows. You've been running the ship, James. How's subscribership?

    James Olsen : It's down.

  • Andrea Rojas : When Ms. Danvers won the Pulitzer, readership tanked. It gives a certain kind of impression that the paper is pedantic; it's heavy, it's dull, like homework.

    Kara Danvers : That's insane.

Andrea Rojas : No, Kara, what's insane is branding a company in a way that causes people to click away from the site.

Kara Danvers : The news is not about clicks.

Andrea Rojas : Everything is about clicks. From Fortune 500 companies selling their wares to a new mom posting her child's birthday, today the measure of worth is on a click. To survive, CatCo needs to pivot. Attention spans have plummeted along with revenues. Readers want watercooler news that's just fun to read and just as easy to digest.

James Olsen : That, um... I'm pretty sure I can speak for everybody in the room when I say that if that is the kind of content that you wanna create here, we will walk. This is not what we signed up for.

Andrea Rojas : But it literally is. You're all on a brand-new, three-year contract. If you're not interested in helping me drive CatCo into the future, you are more than welcome to side roll out of the car, just as I am welcome to exercise your non-compete clauses. I'd hate to see such talent be driven permanently from the business. If your heart isn't in it, let me know. Well, that's it.

    [raising her drink]

Andrea Rojas : Cheers to the future.

  • Supergirl : You were right, Brainy. This cape damage is terrible for aerodynamics. I keep keeling over to the right. I almost landed in a lake.

Querl Dox : Well, fear not. I am deeply engaged in finding a solution.

Alex Danvers : And yet that is the least of our problems. The DEO just picked up a massive energy signature, and it's not a bomb like we thought.

    J'onn J'onzz : It's a homemade Phantom Zone projector.

Querl Dox : Whoever built this seems to have been stealing rare, high-security materials for weeks from various armories, laboratories, and government agencies. But not from us.

J'onn J'onzz : The pod's anti-matter engine was the final piece of the puzzle.

Supergirl : So they've spent weeks building a Phantom Zone projector, turned it on, and just left it on the ground?

Querl Dox : It's almost as if they wanted us to find it. Only question is why?

Supergirl , Alex Danvers : [realizing together]  Trap.

  • J'onn J'onzz : No one knows who Midnight is, what planet she's from. One day, she just appeared on Mars to fight alongside the White Martians.

    Alex Danvers : But why?

J'onn J'onzz : Because she's fueled by death. The White Martians were quite happy to let her loose on my people.

Supergirl : How did you defeat her?

    J'onn J'onzz : I can't remember.

Querl Dox : You're still recovering from the psychic trauma you experienced at the museum. It could affect your memory.

Supergirl : This feels personal, J'onn.

  • J'onn J'onzz : Manchester Black spent a year launching personal attacks against me. If I can survive him, I can survive anything.

Alex Danvers : We still have to find Midnight. And we don't know who got her here or why.

Querl Dox : The good news is a battle like that must have depleted her powers. I think we bought ourselves up to 24 hours before she's able to attack again.

Supergirl : Good. I'll circle the country and see if I can find her while she's still weak. J'onn, can you shapeshift and accept my award tonight?

Querl Dox : Oh, yes, please, it's great fun to watch you do that.

Alex Danvers : Kara, no. *You* are accepting that award. And we're all gonna be there to watch. We'll find Midnight, and we're gonna face her the same exact way that we face everything else. Together.

  • Andrea Rojas : I believe you're familiar with William Day.

Kara Danvers : Yes. Yes. Uh, by reputation. I'm a big fan of your work. Your exposé on eminent domain in Hart-El-Pool, it was... it was brilliant.

    William Day : It's Hartlepool.

  • Andrea Rojas : Kara, I asked William to take a look at the few articles James said we're ready to post. Your piece on the governor's proposed water tax is very thoroughly researched. I asked William to re-write it.

William Day : You buried the lede in the fourth paragraph, obscured emotion with unneeded facts and backstory. Overloaded it with unnecessary detail.

Kara Danvers : That story laid out everything going on with the issue. But cutting out facts, not disclosing every side, that... that puts inherent bias in the piece.

William Day : Every story has inherent bias to some extent.

Kara Danvers : I would think you of all people would agree with me. You... your reporting is comprehensive and in-depth.

William Day : When I wrote for the Times, I wrote stories the way the Times wanted them. Did the same for Le Monde, in French, no less. Daily Mail, however, I wrote tabloid stock.

Andrea Rojas : Kara, if you're having trouble with the style I'm looking for, William can always re-write you.

William Day : I don't mind, as long as I get a shared byline.

    Andrea Rojas : Of course.

  • Kara Danvers : You can't just take over a storied news outlet and turn it into a... a pandering clickbait tabloid.

Andrea Rojas : Actually, I can.

Kara Danvers : And here's where you threaten me if I quit, you'll block me from the whole profession.

    Andrea Rojas : Correct.

    Kara Danvers : Mm-hmm.

Andrea Rojas : And I'm not gonna fire you.

Kara Danvers : Well, I'm not leaving journalism, so if I stay here, you should get used to the fact that I will be reporting what I want and writing it the way I want to. I will try to be shorter, because I am flexible. But I will fight you every time on every story to make sure it is told the way it deserves to be told. I will not tolerate being re-written by him, and I will not allow my voice to be silenced.

Andrea Rojas : I never had any intention of silencing you, Kara. I'm glad we worked that out.

  • Kara Danvers : And then I just went off on Andrea. I told her how I really feel about her new vision for CatCo, and I told her what I will and will not tolerate, and I did it all in front of the new guy.

Alex Danvers : Good for you.

Kara Danvers : Yeah. I mean, I can stand up in front of my new boss, but with Lena, when it comes to telling her the truth, I'm just... frozen. Why can't I do it?

Alex Danvers : Look, I know I've been hard on you. But you know what? Tonight, this is... this is your night. So I am giving you permission to stop beating yourself up and enjoy it, okay? You can worry about telling Lena another time.

    Kara Danvers : I guess you're right.

    Alex Danvers : Smile.

  • Querl Dox : Kara, I brought you a gift to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Kara Danvers : Oh, Brainy, that is so sweet of you. You didn't have to do that. I'm so excited.

Querl Dox : [opening his hand, which appears to be empty]  Behold. It's a microscopic motion activator.

Kara Danvers : Oh. Did you forget it?

Querl Dox : It is simply too small to be perceived. But don't be fooled, for this miniscule device contains multitudes. More specifically, your new super suit.

Kara Danvers : Brainy, I thought you were just fixing my cape.

Querl Dox : Well, give an artist a canvas... if you'll allow me.

Kara Danvers : Well, um, can I... don't break them.

Querl Dox : [touching the side frame of her glasses]  Now, please take care when removing your glasses in public, for the next time you whip those off, your new suit will materialize. Or demateralize, as needed.

  • Kara Danvers : What are you doing back here?

Lena Luthor : Okay, you caught me. It was supposed to be a surprise, but I'm the one who's gonna introduce you. I couldn't miss an opportunity to tell the world how wonderful you are.

Kara Danvers : Oh, no, no, no... I... Lena, I can't let you do this. I don't deserve it.

Lena Luthor : Are you kidding me? Me more than anyone knows how much you deserve it. I saw how you risked your life to expose Lex's crimes.

Kara Danvers : [blurting it out]  I'm Supergirl.

    [taking off her glasses]

Kara Danvers : [her emotions overwhelming her as she talks]  I've always been Supergirl. I should've told you so long ago, I know that. But I just kept making excuses because you've been hurt so many times, and... I convinced myself that I was protecting you. And then one day, you were so angry with me, with-with Supergirl. But you still loved Kara. And I just kept thinking... if I could be Kara, just Kara... that I could keep you as a friend. I was selfish and scared, and I didn't wanna lose you, so I kept pretending, and I never stopped. Every time I kept my secret from you, I wasn't... protecting you, I was hurting you, just like everyone else, and I am so, so sorry. I am so sorry. Please say something.

Attendant : Ms. Luthor, you're on in two minutes.

    Kara Danvers : Lena...

[tears roll down her cheeks as Lena leaves without a word]

  • Supergirl : [their attacks have no effect on Midnight]  Well, that's not great.

  • Supergirl : Guess we're doing things the hard way.

Querl Dox : No, no, no. You cannot rescue J'onn from the event horizon and destroy the void. The-the odds are...

Supergirl : We can't let bad odds or whatever it is we're afraid of stop us from doing what we know is right.

  • Supergirl : Lena, I can't tell you how much it means to me that you were there tonight, that-that you're even willing to talk to me at all.

Lena Luthor : Thank you for telling me the truth, but, Kara, things can't be like they were before. Do you understand? There can be no more secrets between us. I have to be in on everything.

Supergirl : You will be. That's actually why I'm here.

    [giving her James' signal watch]

Supergirl : You know everything now. If you ever need me, all you have to do is call.

  • Child : [after she stops a speeding bus that would have ploughed into schoolchildren]  Thanks, Supergirl. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you.

Supergirl : Oh, that's easy. You just have to fight for what's right and always tell the truth.

Lena Luthor : [sneering from the sidewalk across the street]  Always tell the truth. That's rich.

Supergirl : Ms. Luthor. Is everything all right?

Lena Luthor : Why so formal? I thought we were best friends. Kara.

    Supergirl : [quietly]  You know?

Lena Luthor : Know what? That you're a hypocrite who's been lying to me for years?

    Supergirl : No, Lena, I didn't...

[Lena punches her, sending her into the bus, which explodes]

    Lena Luthor : Terminate.

Hope : Virtual reality simulation terminated.

  • Alex Danvers : What is she doing?

Querl Dox : She's creating a black hole.

Supergirl : Brainy, if I solar flare, can I shut that down?

Querl Dox : Gravitational power comes from the core. We'd have to go inside the void to do that. But why do things the hard way?

  • Supergirl : [after getting knocked down by the Tyrannosaurus Rex, she is thrown on top of a larger-than-life poster of Lex Luthor, and as she looks into his face, she goes:]  Eww!
