Two episodes in one...
Fuz-125 March 2019
...and neither is good.

It's just boring, badly written and confusing. One of the worst Family Guy episodes.

You Can't Handle the Booth
bobcobb3012 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There were a few things that made me laugh in this episode such as Chris saying you can forward his paycheck to DraftKings and the producer trying to genuinely explain why things are done, but the concept did not work for a whole episode. This should have been one cutaway at most.

Do the younger viewers even know what DVD commentary is anyway?

Needless to say this season of Family Guy has been a tough one. Sure there have been the gems but this episode, sadly, was not one of them.

Who thought this would be good?
austinthecat_25 March 2019
The visuals distract from the commentary and the commentary distract from the visuals and neither are even good to begin with. This could have been a fantastic episode, but the commentary is just boring and the episode plot is predictable and poorly written. This might possibly be the worst episode of the series and the moment where they have finally ran out of ideas.

Worst episode ever
joker-9518525 March 2019
Family Guy is one of my favorite shows of all time. This however was such a disappointing episode. It was tough to even finish it to be honest.

I've never turned off an episode of Family Guy until this one. Absolutely horrible episode.

Gets Old Really Fast
iwaynerooney25 March 2019
Starts off with promise but quickly becomes a mess, the jokes don't land it's almost as if they filmed the episode realised it wouldn't work and then dubbed it with 20 minutes of ad lib "this is the stupidest thing I've ever seen" screams Lois mid way through the episode and never has a line been more apt for this show.

Great Orginal Episode
DrMaxLaugh15 April 2019
This was a refreshing and original episode, and I was surprised to see so much hate for it. The commentary starts off a bit boring, but the episode quickly picks up into surreal and hilarious territory. I'm into DVD commentary, so I appreciated this episode a lot. Although Family Guy has became meta to a fault recently, this episode plays with it like no other animated comedy has (except Drawn Together, but it was a quick gag in the movie rather than an episode). I recommend watching this with captions to pick up on all the jokes and not be confused about who to listen to and who's talking.

Not as Bad as Everyone Says
chengesbach-9910627 March 2019
Some jokes did fall flat and the commentary over the visuals was at times distracting, especially when the real life actors began talking to the characters, but to call this episode humorless is an over exaggeration. I laughed enough times and the idea is quite clever. It could've been executed better but it wasn't a complete failure. I think they should've used a well known episode to commentate on rather than a brand new one. That way the visuals would've been less distracting. This is in no way a great episode but there have been worse. Give it a shot.

Why do I always seem to have the opposite opinion??
pperot1-386-36501612 December 2020
I generally don't write reviews, but I have recently been feeling compelled to do my part in helping out shows/episodes that have a bad rap for some reason or another. Based on other reviews, I feel like some people don't like it because they don't get it. I've read that the plot and commentary get in each other's way, ruining each. But this episode is not about the on screen "plot" in any way and you don't need to be able to follow it to fully enjoy the episode, which is actually just about the commentary, with the on screen stuff just being a springboard for commentary jokes. This episode occurs after the series had jumped the shark. Seth MacFarlane and many writers had already left for the most part to work on his other projects. That being the case, I welcome a more unique episode. I do not understand how someone could love the other episodes around this time but not this one. This episode is actually BETTER because it is making the same kinds of jokes but in a different, original format. Plus, it gets super meta, which is always fun. I'm not sure if this episode was just too weird for some people or what, but I for one think its above average for a season 17 episode. Just be glad they're even still making this show and be happy with what you get.

Easily the best episode ever. If you didn't get it, you don't deserve it.

One of the best of the latest seasons
jhester96145 September 2019
This episode is hilarious and pokes fun at a lot of recent tropes for family Guy episodes. The entire premise breaks the 4th wall while breaking a fictional 4th wall (that's like... 16 walls) and does it with both visual gags but also plays up the music gags of some of my favorite episodes of the past. Simply hilarious

I feel like Comic Book Guy
Big-Mumf27 May 2019
I'm a massive fan of Family Guy; so for me to say this was the "worse episode ever" says something.

The writers tried; and failed.

I rate Family Guy a strong 8, sometimes a 9.

This was just awful.

Sad times.

Just show us the episode
brodesreilly25 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was just annoying. First of all I don't care about the real voice actors coming in and saying they aren't real. I don't care. Let me watch some stupid stuff. Let me see the episode second of all. Ok

Interesting idea that just didn't work
markjohnevans7925 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So I get they were trying to be "meta" in this episode by having the characters do a DVD style commentary of said episode to then encounter their real life voice actors but sadly it just didn't gel. In fact I would go so far as to say this was probably one of the laziest episodes of FG I have ever seen (and that says a lot for a show that once played almost the entirety of the Dancing in the Street video). Unfortunately though this seems to be a more and more common trend for this series. For every one good episode we seem to get 3 or 4 'filler' ones that barely raise a smile and I don't know if that's because the writers are out of ideas, cannot be bothered or a combination of the two. Seriously if anyone from the show reads this please let me just say the following; if finding material for 20 or so shows per season is too much I would rather you drop the overall number of them and just give us quality, not quantity. Sadly, this episode is not recommended. Skip over it, trust me you'll miss nothing.

Worst Episode- the beginning of the end for this show
jayborrelli27 March 2019
Family guy has gotten progressively worse over the years but this takes the cake. Basically cast talking over the animation about random things that have nothing to do with the actual story. The fact that something this poor quality could ever make it to air suggests that MacFarlane is more concerned with other projects and willing to let his bread and butter show slip into mediocrity

Commentary on commentarys
thefunion27 March 2019
This episode was a welcome break from the formula that we've come to expect from Family Guy. It's a gimmicky idea but it works. The last half of the episode is especially brilliant and I wish more animated shows would follow suit.

I can't understand the bad comments, good episode for this season!
CenkAlper29 March 2019
Okay this episode may be lower than Family guy standards, but for this season it is above average. I laughed for several times and there is lots of good jokes. Midway chair songs is still a bad joke for my taste. I watched some real commentated TV shows, and i found it as an inessential and chaotic comments through show without taste just like in this episode Seth mocks to them. This is why i laughed to much to that i think. And at last minutes in this episode there is bitter sweet moment! Seth shows to us these characters are not real they are just a scrips. It was a little bit emotional moment. This show is part of our life, its hurts little bit. There some bad episodes i know but i loved this show and characters. I hope this show will be better next season. its better be

Not the best, but its family guy
samtimoney-7975818 May 2021
Clever idea, but wasn't to funny. Was more of a drama and a special appearance form Sarah Paulson, who is brilliant as always. But I wasn't a big fan of the ending to this episode. But all that said, it's still family guy. And it's not meant to be 100% perfect. Still fun though.

Very unique episode, very different from usual gag-filled Family Guy. Whole concept and how absurd it was made it incredibly enjoyable!

Hideously bad
wellingborough3 June 2019
I can only hope this cost them virtually nothing at all to make - because it has to be the most dismal episode - by some margin - that they have ever thrown together.

There's virtually nothing clever, funny or witty in this ghastly mistake.

If they reckon this was anything other than massively sub-par, perhaps it is sadly time to call time.
