- The 11th season of RuPaul's Drag Race (2009) begins with the introduction of 14 brand new queens and one returning queen from a previous season.
Entering the workroom first is Vanessa Vanjie Mateo (Jose Luis Cancel), the popular 'first out' from the previous season. She decides to hide and watch the rest of the queens enter before making her presence known. After each queen makes her entrance, including Miss Vanjie, RuPaul enters and delivers the girls' first mini-challenge. Each contestant is to take part in a photoshoot with a legendary Drag Race alumni.
Brooke Lynn Hytes (Brock Hayhoe) and Silky Nutmeg Ganache (Reginald Steele) have lots of fun during their shoots with past contestants, Ongina [Ryan Ong Palao) and Mariah Balenciaga (Elijah Kelly) respectively. However, Ra'Jah O'Hara (Benni Miller) has issues when her ear-rings keep falling off during her shoot with Ginger Minj (Joshua Allan Eads) and Mercedes Iman Diamond (Curran) lacks confidence and assertiveness during her photos with Delta Work (Gabriel Villarreal). Vanjie also receives questions when she gets her drag partner, Farrah Moan to face a wall for their portrait. The winner of the mini-challenge is Silky who wins a $2,500 gift card for Arda Wigs.
The girls are then given their maxi-challenge; to create a signature look using material 'belonging' to previous drag race legends. As the queens are creating their looks in the work room, singer and actress Miley Cyrus puts herself into 'boy drag' and pretends to be a member of the production crew. As she helps one of the queens with a microphone issue, they recognise her and immediately are overjoyed. Silky, in particular, voices her admiration for Miley as well as picking her up and carrying her around. Some of the queens express their embarrassment over her treatment of Miley, believing Silky went too far.
Joining RuPaul on the judging panel are Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews and Miley Cyrus. Each queen showcases their creations to the judges with Brooke Lynn, A'Keria C. Davenport (Gregory D'Wayne) and Plastique Tiara (Duc Tran) receiving high praise for their looks. Nina West (Nina West), Soju (Tony Hyunsoo Ha) and Kahanna Montrese (Tyrone Hardiman) receive some negative feedback.
After deliberation, RuPaul announces that the bottom two queens are Kahanna and Soju. They are then asked to lip sync to "Best of Both Worlds" by Miley Cyrus. After showcasing her energetic gymnastic abilities, Kahanna is named the winner and stays another week. Soju is asked to sashay away.
