Finally good Star Wars
DLochner21 September 2022
Andor is unlike anything we've seen from Star Wars before. Cassian Andor is a complicated character - something special in the otherwise superficially drawn Star Wars world.

Andor is set before the events of Rogue One and before the Rebellion openly opposes the Empire. So these are dark times - Andor can best be compared to Rogue One but The series expands the star wars empire with more emotion and variety. Its completely different to all Star Wars movies and series befor but gives the whole umiverse a new touch of emotion, depth and will to be something emotional and worth watching beside popcorn cinema.

Good start
snoozejonc21 September 2022
Cassian searches for someone and runs into trouble.

This is a strong start to the series.

There is a great atmosphere generated in the opening scenes that sets the tone and re-introduces the central character very well. It's hard to judge other aspects of the plot at such an early stage in the series as it feels like it is slow burning towards something whilst showing various locations and people.

The feeling of paranoia is nicely established in multiple character exchanges. I like the politics involved in regional governance which is portrayed well in a number of scenes involving various officials.

I think the dialogue and performances are a cut above anything we've seen so far in the Star Wars streaming shows. Diego Luna and the supporting cast do a great job.

It feels like it ends quite abruptly, which is odd considering 3 episodes were released on the same day.

Refreshing Star Wars Show
Sjamanen21 September 2022
Good and refreshing start to an original Star Wars Story. Although it starts fairly slow, it is a good start to a 12 episode adventure.

"Andor" is a thrilling spy series that takes us into the heart of the rebels' resistance against the powerful and brutal Empire.

Tony Gilroy (The Bourne Legacy) proves to be a great fit for this show and the main character played by Diego Luna hits the mark as a rebel.

It is a good first episode to build characters and introduce us to the story. No bs/cringe stuff, - good actors and production quality seems to be top notch - I am excited to see how this story develops.

First 3 episodes - 8/10.

Shaping up Not Only to Be the Only Competently Written D+ Show Next to Mandalorian...
MamadNobari9721 September 2022
...But also, the only D+ show that actually feels like a real TV Show and not a 2-hour movie split into parts, and not bound by the weird 6-episode-only formula of MCU shows that surprisingly makes the writers both drag the first half of the show and also rush the ending with lots of lost potential.

This episode is the opener of the season and is obviously gonna be an introduction with fewer big events or explosions and action and all that, and I think that's why they released 3 episodes first and I'm assuming the 3rd is gonna end on a cliffhanger or something. The point I'm trying to make is that the show seems a slow burn and I actually like they're going this route and laying their plot this way instead of rushing or giving us pointless action just to keep the kids' attention span on the screen.

And that's also why I'm giving it a 7 because it is a competent start but nothing mindblowing or amazing yet.

This show's writing also continues the way of Rogue One's character building and giving characters backstory which I really liked about Rogue One as opposed to the Sequels. Even though this is like the simplest and most clichéd way of characterization, doesn't mean it's not gonna work and is definitely better than wasting 3 big movie budgets and +6 hours of our lives on a character with no name of family or backstory. And I am in no way trying to say that a character without flashbacks and backstory about his/her parents/siblings doesn't work at all, it's just that they went out of their way to find the most horrible way to implement this point about that character. This was the reason why many people liked Jyn and not Rey, cause her story was personal and she had the least amount of characterization and something that made us care about her character.

So like I said, they actually give backstory to the protagonist here and make the story personal just like Rogue One. One of the main reasons Star Wars became so huge was because of this personal storytelling and characters being each other's sons and sisters. It's space family soap opera after all.

So it's a competent start and did a good job of reintroducing Cassian Andor and giving him a competent backstory. Though I am getting a little tired of seeing flashbacks all the time in these shows. So let's hope these were the only ones or at least.

And also here's hoping the show is actually what it's looking to be and won't be incompetently written like every MCU show so far or the horrible Obi-Wan show written by a 5-year-old, and isn't rushed in the last few episodes, which by the looks of the number of episodes, it doesn't seem that way.

This ain't about to get lower scores than Book of Boba or Kenobi under my watch.... Nope!
ronniewhitedx21 September 2022
I'm sorry, but no. This has the best acting, writing, visuals, directing, and atmosphere out of any recent Star wars project... There ain't no way the fandom is gonna unanimously agree on everything, I get it, however this has some of the most care I've seen outside of the animated projects put into it. This FEELS like a team of people that spent time and effort on every little thing and it's really a shame that there are some individuals that would rather see 30 plus minutes of mindless action than watch a story start to unfold into something greater. I feel like for the first time in a long time that Star Wars is growing up... I only hope some of the more critical of this show will too.

Kassa
lassegalsgaard21 September 2022
This show was officially announced back in 2018, but it didn't really get off the ground before Tony Gilroy joined as showrunner and was confirmed to be writing a big part of the show. It was originally believed to be focused on both Cassian Andor and K-2SO, but the latter was eventually removed so the story could instead focus more on the origins of the rebellion. I was very excited for it, both because of the talent involved and the prospects that the show had. And the first episode, while not being a perfect episode, is a really good setup for what's to come later.

What every good show has to do when it starts off is introduce the world that it plays in. For "Andor," this is a story that spans various different worlds around the galaxy, but opens with a new world called Ferrix, and Gilroy does a really good job of developing the planet, which is definitely going to be a birthplace of something bigger. It's a world that seems unbothered by what's going on around it, which is obviously what will set it up to be important later. There's not a lot of story being given to the audience here, but some of the basic ideas are set and it's clear that Andor is off to a bad start with the Empire already. He's not a very popular individual with certain members involved. The character work is very good, and Andor's past is explored in some cleverly laid flashbacks that doesn't give us a lot, but teases his early beginnings with the Empire and sets a lot of groundwork for what his objective seems to be in the present day storyline. And it's great to see Diego Luna in a role that already seems more appreciated than what he did in "Rogue One." He's a great actor and the focus on the spy elements here gives him a chance to work some of the muscles he hasn't been using to this point. There's obviously a lot to be desired, and the next few episodes will surely work off this groundwork and expand the story a little.

"Kassa" is a nice beginning for a show, and it puts more focus on a place that is outside of the Empire's interests for now. A lot of ground is laid here, and it's clear that there's a lot more still to come and maybe they could have put a bit more in this too.

Finally something fresh.
james-8710722 September 2022
So with the long stream of Disney star wars titles and spin offs you start to develop an expectation for these shows. What we have come to expect is on full display in the sequel trilogy:

Fast paced, light on plot. Explosions, light sabres. Useless storm troopers, more explosions. Character development...nah don't need that. More explosions. New light sabre. Floating rocks. Callbacks callbacks callbacks.

With that In mind I set my expectations pretty low for Andor. But wow. This is completely different, in fact it's good, very good...

Andor sets the tone right out the gate. It's gritty and dark, it has a sense of desperation. This is achieved through the visuals but also through the very natural dialogue. (This is a massive step up for star wars) the characters in this show talk like real people. They seem to have real problems and motives. In terms of tone It sits somewhere between the original trilogy and bladerunner. The result of solid dialogue is that it grounds the show in a sense of realism. Real world, real characters, real consequences. This is a recipe for real tension! Which is great for fans. One of the pitfalls here though is we already know the main character survives. Which is difficult to work with as a director when your job is to put the audience on the edge of their seat. It will be interesting to see how they work with this.

In terms of story we get a basic introduction to a few of the characters. (New droid is pretty cool) Some will argue it's "boring" but that's not the case. What the sequel trilogy and many of the spin off shows lack in the extreme is proper character development. And that's what this show is building. It respects the audience's intelligence and it's taking it's time with a more mature approach. It shows a different side to the star wars universe. Something "Solo" touched on but was never fully realised.

Overall I'm very pleased to see them produce something with this level of care. The practical effects, the slick dialog and believable characters sure there are easter eggs mixed in there but it seems for once the characters and the story are front and centre.

It really is a massive step in the right direction. I look forward to more.

Great atmosphere building but not sure where it's going
franksanchez221 September 2022
The atmosphere is dreary and depressing, with Blade Runner vibes, which is great for this time period and shows why Andor is the way he is. Definitely a different style to the other Star Wars series, but I don't get the point of this series still. This is a prequel to a prequel of A New Hope. So we know how everything will end up twice over lol. I don't see how anything of consequence can happen in this show that will affect the galaxy.

Sure, it delves deeper into Andor's character, but it's nothing new, his development in Rogue One was thorough and made his character and motivations clear as an anti-hero rebel. It's more of the same. Even him shooting someone in cold blood was done over here the way it was in Rogue One.

I just don't see where this is going other than to explain how Andor joins the Rebellion, but we really don't need to know that. Kind of reminds me of how Solo was well made but felt pointless to to Han Solo's character.

Wish they would've done a series with this vibe in the Old Republic era during the Sith Wars or something, or during a pre-Clone Wars era Coruscant Underworld. This Dark Times era with stormtroopers and imperials has just become too repetitive.

Well made but it just feels like Disney knows people liked Rogue One and they wanted to work with Diego Luna more before he gets old, so they shoehorned in this series.

Bravo Toby!
Elliot141221 September 2022
Terrific opening episode. Star Wars has never felt as real as it does now, not even in 'Rogue One'. It's relatively slow, yes, but it's not a problem at all. I like it when shows take the time to establish their characters, so when the stakes get elevated, it's all the more rewarding and suspenseful. This is clearly going to be a deep character study, so we must get to understand the characters first and see the world from their perspective. The first two episodes aren't boring at all, and if they would have been mashed into one episode along with the third one, as some have wished, everything that comes down in the third would not be even nearly as intriguing or satisfying. This is going to be one hell of a show. Bravo Toby!

A bit slow and confusing, but a decent start for a very intriguing show.
frankiesilver-9183622 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As soon as I started this show I was immediately left in awe with its amazing opening minutes that reveal the writers are willing to embrace serious and adult themes. I'm extremely shocked that we open in a brothel, and the following scene of Andor killing the cops was unbelievably great. While watching I had a gut feeling Disney would hold back, and I'm very happy to be proven wrong.

Everything with Morlana One gave me heavy cyberpunk/Blade Runner vibes. This neo-noir style is absolutely awesome. The cinematography and sets make the world feel so genuine and lived in.

I will admit the world building was still kinda slow and confusing. There is so many new characters and concepts introduced here and since our protagonist is familiar with it all already, I didn't feel on the same page as the viewer. I even know some casual viewers who were completely lost while watching. I hope a lot of the vague and mysterious nature behind the plot is an intentional part of the style and will become clearer as the show continues.

Regardless, this style of storytelling worked better in some cases than in others. The flashbacks, for example, seemed to be kept intentionally vague and yet they got the story across fine without any subtitles even. As for our villain, I really don't understand why he wants Cassian so bad. I assume it's a personal grudge we'll learn about, but for now it's just a bit weird.

I think for the espionage show they aimed to create here, Andor works impressively well as its wanderer protagonist. I also adore B2EMO. What a cool design and adorable voice for a new droid partner.

I think this is far from a perfect pilot, but Lucasfilm has already proven that this is something different and unique while still being thoughtfully created and very much Star Wars.

It's only a decent start altogether, but the epic premise could make this the beginning of an amazing show.

Solid Intro
tristan_1921 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This first episode was pretty solid. It is well directed and the acting is good. The characters are actually interesting here, and you really get the feel that Andor will provide a lot of new stories and interesting concepts.

It follows Cassian and his adventures. The first scene immediately sets the tone. I'm interested to see what'll happen in the search of this sister. The pace is excellent and the episode doesn't rely on over the top action or scenarios, but rather takes its time to establish the story.

The scenery is beautiful. The antagonists are well portrayed so far. After one episode, it's all good man.

Episode 1
Prismark1021 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In this prequel to Star Wars: Rogue One. The story follows Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) who is in another star system looking for his sister in what is described as a high class brothel.

It does not take long for Andor to find trouble with some bullying sentry guards. It leads to murder, Andor flees the planet.

However an officious security officer Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) is intent on finding their murderer. Despite the fact that his superior has ordered to make a report of it being an accident.

The first episode is interspersed with Andor's childhood in the planet Kinari.

Star Wars: Andor marks a departure from the Star Wars Disney+ universe.

This is a less familiar environment allowing the creators to go for gritty and lurky. It is filmed like a noirish tale.

There is more than a hint of Blade Runner. Like that movie, this series was shot in Britain.

The first episode had a slower pace due to setting up the characters and story. There is an interesting story here.

What a snore fest
dldavidlittle-0275121 September 2022
Yawn.... yawn... yawn Im all for setting up a story but my word.... this was tedious.

I hope it improves fast otherwise this will be another shining example of why Disney should have never been allowed to touch Star Wars.

You could get everything significant from this episode in around 2 minutes..... I'm not even sure there was anything.

I can honestly say I could have been watching any B rated scifi series..... there is nothing that screams Star Wars at all.

It should be so easy when you've been given the universe on a plate ... but no... Disney still manage to mess it up..... come back George.

I must say I've hoped for better.
ptiselj21 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know, had quite big expectations for the show. It's a promising and a boring start combined. Definitely too much Kenarian language, which isn't translated. Not too much easter eggs, too. The episode is maybe ok in a package of three co-released episodes, but if I cite Voldemort: "I must say I've hoped for better". There are some interesting elements and the episode itself is not too long, but I am not convinced. I really do hope it will not be in a same category as the overhyped Kenobi show. The one thing I liked is how they included Cassian's strange accent into the bigger picture - Kenari is obscure and quite unknown, despite being in Mid Rim. To sum it up, it's a slow start, fingers crossed that two following co-released episodes are better.

Now this is a story from the galaxy far, far away
dan1man21 September 2022
This was reported to be a different kind of show and it really is, but in a good way. As a fan of prequels, this episode is one of the first ever since to really do justice to the beautiful and compelling galaxy of Star Wars. The story seems well written and the pacing is appropriate. Some of the previous series have either been VERY slow or skipped through interesting parts, but this episode seems only to present what's necessary, and then explore it as much as needed. What's best, you can see the storyline's gonna take quite a few episodes to unfold. The characters are well written, and, fortunately, no wokeness detected in them, so we're back to Star Wars default. It's interesting to see what this show's gonna be like.

Decent, but not Star Wars
daveallum7522 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this first episode but I treated it as just another sci-fi show and not related to Star Wars.

It started of almost like Blade Runner.

I also feel they are trying to give it a Game of Thrones vibe to it, making it darker and grittier.

Unsure if I will continue as it's kinda of another pointless show in the star wars universe, a prequel to a movie that ends with all the characters being killed.

I'm also tired of having to do homework to enjoy Star Wars these days, having to watch a YouTube video to show me the "Easter eggs & details" I missed because I didn't study before I tuned in.

Overall, was good, looked good and was acted well but....it's not Star Wars.

Interested to see what others think.

Solid Beginning to Something More
Coolmade200025 September 2022
The premiere episode is a fairly good start to the series. I usually don't expect much out of the very first episode of any series. This episode was not a dynamic or an explosive episode for me, and I'm okay with that.

Beginning with the critical feedback, I'm not entirely sure where this series is heading despite being the first episode. I also was caught off-guard on the shortness of the episode runtime. I seriously didn't realize the episode was concluded until the ending credits rolled.

The first act of the episode was the strongest in my opinion. The suspense in one particular scene really showed Andor's threatening nature very well.

This episode only marks the beginning and I just look forward to more episodes in the future.

Imma be real with y'all
suvechhabose23 September 2022
Disney invested quite alot for this show , i mean its literally visible. The camera angles , background scores , environment looks fresh but Its nothing like Star wars in this episode.

Its clearly looks like a Netflix sci-fi with Ray tracing effects everywhere. I prefer Mandalorian's sinister alleys in my Star wars than tidy streets with rain & neon lights. As for the story its nothing special. Its like Luke searching for Leia with a new empire, (the Corporation which controls these planets) .

Acting was quite okay . Yeah shot episode streak continues. As usual 22 to 40 maximum minutes is good storytelling. I wonder why stranger things season 4 finale was good . ??!

I hope real threat appears soon cause except that its total mid.

It has more class than most recent projects by far.
wutangkillabee7 October 2022
This show really feels like it is benefitting from some much stronger writing than what is usually on offer for Star Wars content produced recently. I have been consistently impressed now for the past 4 episodes in every department of production. The cast are doing an excellent job, some of the strongest acting in any Star Wars, ever. The writing and dialogue are a notch or two above almost anything in Star Wars as well. The costumes and sets are fantastic, and the musical score is really strong. Even the smaller actors and extras in this show put on a fantastic performance. It's really showing a different side to Star Wars in my opinion, I'm excited to see where it continues to head!

Solid Beginning
RaphaelNeo1 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first episode is a solid start to the show. The beginning felt a bit awkward, the acting didn't feel natural and the brief action scene was a little confusing. The overall pacing of the story seems slow, I don't believe that this is something negative, but for some people this might be a problem.

The atmosphere is great, the visuals are amazing and you can see that the people behind the show are really passionate about it. It's also interesting to see new things, like the regional politics and how it's setup. This show gives the viewer a new look into the Star Wars universe, and does something unique.

Personally, I haven't been as excited and involved in a Star Wars show since The Mandalorian. I'm positive and looking forward to the future of this show.

More bad Disney fan fiction?
WickedDozen22 September 2022
So we have Rings of Power that doesnt feel very Tolkein, more like a nursery school play with great cgi.

Then we have House of the Dragon which feels like a poorly written soap opera with good production value.

Now we have Andor, looks great, but again the writing feels un-Star Wars like.

I see a pattern emerging and its not in the CGI departments, big companies are buying properties solely for their large and loyal fanbases, taking said properties that should be too big to fail, hand them to some Z-rate writers/directors and then blame the fans for not liking the inferior product.

I hope over the coming episodes/seasons these issues are at least addressed, because if not we could have years and years of these sub par products being forced upon us.

Edit: Having now watched the 7 released episodes, i'm actually blown away with how intriguing the story is, the first 3 episodes were kind of slow and can I say slightly boring, but from episode 4 onwards everything got so much better. Mon Mothma/Luthen Rael storyline is wonderful. More of this please!

A new take on Star Wars
poseyfan22 September 2022
I think this show benefits from the fact that it doesn't have high expectations around it like its predecessors did. Was I blown away by this episode? No. It was a slow burn and I'm still not fully invested in the story. However, this is something we haven't seen in Star Wars. It is a very personal story.

I hope it picks up a bit more as the season goes on, and I think it will. I can definitely see why they released 3 episodes at once. I think the weekly release schedule might hurt the show though, especially if they all average around only 35 minutes.

Overall, I'm excited to see where this show goes.

Boring
andre_carreiro25 September 2022
The story is almost non-existing, the characters are weak and uninteresting... more of the same. I don't get it. There are plenty of good stories out there. Why can't Disney make one?

Let's get back to basics: is this a spy story? A lost soul story? A quest? If you know what kind of story you're telling, you can look for the right ingredients to make it worthwhile. For example, if it's a spy story, people will be trained and have great skills. They will have contacts and do whatever is required to get to where they want. It's clearly not the case, as the main character hesitates and relies on friends. If it's a lost soul story, something must haunt him, a memory, he must feel alone, he should be looking at the stars, the desert or an ocean. If it's a quest, than the music should play accordingly, the main character should be bold and brave... But no. Though there are some hints to each of these, it's never any of them. It's just a guy wandering about. Boring.

Please, don't miss the mark.
junopazcaulfield11 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The start of the show is honestly very refreshing. There is something about being able to tell your Star Wars character can kill someone in cold blood without seeking redemption that just feels right to me, i hope they don't do to this the same they did with Fett. Luna is pretty good, as he was in Rogue One, honestly not the character i was hoping to see in a spin-off, but seeing how things were handled with shows like Better Call Saul, i'd say any character can be even more interesting with good writing, but you do need to keep your character constant and making sense, so you unfortunately can't turn him into the level of depth of Maul from clone wars because we have seen his later self in Rogue One.

That said... i honestly wish they did a very deep character study and went offrails with that Blade Runner feeling on this, it's what i feel star wars needs right now. I like the fancy imperial "clean" side of the galaxy, and even the beautiful Mandalorian landscapes. But honestly ? The rainy city... just got to me and i rewatched the episode's start numerous times, because of how beautifully depressing and tragic it all was, unfortunately.. Cassian Andor is no Vader, Ben, Luke, Ahsoka or Revan when it comes to character development and another Cal Kestis superman boy scout is out of the plans for my enjoyment, he works on his merits and in some storytelling as well, but Star Wars is missing the point... they will probably need to get extremely interesting characters out of the hat if they want this to work ( or not, if they do Ozark in this ) props to Luna and the whole crew, even if this doesn't turns out to be The Breaking Bad of star wars we want, which can be asking too much, maybe... this will turn out to be an Ozark and i will be super happy to call it a masterpiece when it's over.

I guess you understood why i called it Ozark if you think about Martin and Andor, developed characters. There is no journey of insanity or the delight to see Heisenberg. Even if the show is amazing, not that Ozark lacks anything, but you need to have a notion if where the entertainment and quality of your show are coming from, Breaking Bad and Ozark knew it, let's hope this does as well. Or... that some other show matches or surpasses Mandalorian in quality.

Props to the team and Luna again.

Btw... that blaster execution.

It was amazing, felt tempted to give this a 10 just because of that scene. Amazing.

7,5/10.

Really sets the tone for the beginning of the show
alexgrs-485756 December 2022
You can clearly see that this Star Wars TV Show is going to be way different than what you have seen so far. The episode had me interested from the beginning to the end. The structures, the buildings, seem enormous, huge, comparing to the other Star Wars shows. To be honest, the episode has a really darkish-tone of a start, kinda reminds me of The Clone Wars, really a good approach from the director.

I'm trying to not spoil anything, I really advise you to watch it. If you are a Star Wars fan, you can clearly see the big difference and the new way of approaching things. Characters seem more human, way more relatable than characters in other series.

Thats it! No more! Go Watch It!
