Violence & Gore

  • Just like the previous games, this game consists in fighting your opponent and, when finished, the player can either spare the enemy of finish him/her via the Fatalities, which have the opponent being torn apart, dismembered, decapitated, disemboweled, mutilated, etc., all with lots of bloodshed and gore.
  • The list of Fatalities include:
  • Food For Thought: Baraka rips off his opponent's face, revealing their eyeballs, teeth and muscles, causing them to fall to their knees, then rips off their entire front skull completely, exposing their brain. As the victim falls to the ground, Baraka skewers their brain on his arm blade and takes a big chomp out of it, his eyes dilating and lots of blood graphically spurting out everywhere.
  • Rock, Paper, Baraka: Baraka impales the opponent with his blades through their torso, pulling upward, nearly cutting off their arms, leaving the shoulders dangling. He proceeds to cross his blades at the opponent's throat, slicing and cutting their head off, sending it into the air. As the head falls down and the body falls over, Baraka cuts the head vertically in half and impales both pieces with his blades as they fall, with blood spurting out.
  • I <3 U: Cassie charges a Green Shadow Kick, launching her foot through the opponent's torso, kicking the heart along with the lungs out through the back. She follows by shoving both arms through her opponent's sides and makes a heart symbol with her blood-stained hands, smiling and giving an air kiss. This Fatality is very similar to Johnny Cage's "Here's Johnny" Fatality in MKX.
  • HashtagGirlPower: Cassie runs towards her opponent while shooting at him/her. When face-to-face, she delivers a kick so powerful at her opponent's groin, that it causes the skull and spine to fly out of the opponent's body, with the torso splitting in two and a huge torrent of blood spurting out like a fountain, á la American Gods (2017).
  • New Species: D'Vorah stabs the opponent in the shoulders using her ovipositors, then grabs her opponent by the throat and vomits masses of eggs, maggots and repulsive residue onto their mouth. This sends her opponent into a paralysis, causing them to twitch as green venom forms on their face. Four large pincers suddenly erupt out of her victim's torso and lift themselves off the ground, as a large insect reveals its head by hatching and bisecting the opponent's head.
  • Can't Die: D'Vorah takes to the air and fires four blasts of resin at the opponent's limbs, pinning them to the ground. Using two of her ovipositors, she stabs her opponent in the head and proceeds to graphically rip the front half of their head off like a sticker, along with their torso. When she finally rips the skin away, the front of the opponent's skull and their ribcage is still attached to the skin, leaving their organs exposed.
  • Melted: Black tosses a vial of Zaterrean Spit near the opponent. Black then proceeds by kneecapping his opponent with his revolvers, forcing them to fall to their knees. He slowly walks to the now kneeling opponent and forces their face into the Saurian acid by pressing their face down with his boot. As half of their face melts, Black delivers a final stomp, causing their head to explode in the acid.
  • Death Trap: Black throws a Netherbeast Trap at his opponent's torso, which clamps down and when yanked away, rips out their guts and exposes much of their remaining innards. Black then walks up and shoves his rifle into the newly-created gaping orifice, angles the barrel up, and graphically blows the top of their head off from the inside, sending a fountain of blood and brains flying out from the blast while their eyeballs are also sent flying out at the same time.
  • Ice Sculpture: Frost creates two ice drills in both of her hands; one goes into her opponent's head to turn their brain into a frozen slushy, the other into their gut to violently rip their intestines out of their stomach, disemboweling them. Once she has created a large enough space in their torso, she ejects her cold generator and shoves it into the wound. A moment later, it detonates, scattering their remains while simultaneously freezing the splatter solid into a macabre ice sculpture.
  • The Cyber Initiative: Frost creates a deadly beam of ice from the cold generator in her chest, freezing her opponent solid. A punch shatters their body, exposing their brain and spinal column. Frost grabs it and hands it off to a drone, which deposits it into an awaiting Cyber Lin-Kuei body. This Fatality is like a combination of Sub-Zero's "Spine Rip" and "Ice Shatter" Fatalities.
  • Spider Mines: Jacqui fires 5 bombs at the opponent, which latch onto their knee, waist, pectoral and eye sockets. She then remotely activates the explosives, blowing up a leg, part of the chest and an arm, splattering large quantities of blood and gore. Finally, Jacqui activates the bombs stuck onto her enemy's eyes, entirely destroying her victim's head and effectively leaving their entire body torn to shreds.
  • Nothin' But Neck: Jacqui leaps and delivers a powerful punch to the opponent's head inward, obliterating it. She then pulls her hand out, with intestines flying out, before rocketing herself backwards with two shotgun blasts that bust open a hole in the victim's torso. Turning around, Jacqui tosses her shield generator into the cavity and activates it, bisecting the victim's corpse lengthwise and leaving it to gorily slide down the energy wall as their still-beating heart pounds against it.
  • Bow Before Me: Jade grabs her staff and slices through both her opponent's arms. She continues to slice through her opponent's legs, causing her opponent to fall down. Jade finishes by quickly cutting off the head, launching it in the air before ultimately impaling the opponent's severed head through the mouth with her staff, causing blood to spurt out.
  • Poll Dance: Jade turns the opponent around and knees him/her in the back. Holding her staff behind the opponent's head, it extends through their eye socket, knocking the eye out. She teleports in front of her opponent and uses her Razorang to brutally cut the victim in half across the torso, causing their blood, intestines and organs to fall out to the floor. Finally, she gives the hanging torso a whirl causing it to spin a few circles on the staff, slinging blood onto the camera.
  • Coming In Hot: Jax plants a bomb on the opponent's back, before kicking him/her away. Before the bomb is armed, Jax proceeds to heat up his arms. As the bomb goes off, the opponent is launched straight towards Jax, who delivers a lariat with enough force and the help of his heated arms to cut the opponent in half, with blood and intestines spraying everywhere.
  • Still Got It: Jax rips off one of the opponent's arms (a twist on his famous "Arm Rip" Fatality), then uses it as a bat to hit the head into the sky. As the head comes down, a baseball theme can be heard as Jax uses the arm to hit the head so hard the skin peels off and reveals the opponent's skull, which comically flies towards the screen as blood sprays everywhere in a simultaneous fashion.
  • Who Hired This Guy: Cage uppercuts the opponent, breaking their jaw and making it dangle. Having to retry, Cage uppercuts the opponent once more, punching their jaw off and busting their throat, only to be told to do it yet again. After the 19th take, Cage manages to punch off the opponent's head, only to have his hand stuck in the head. Frustrated, he throws the head towards the screen, visibly cracking it, while Cage can be seen flipping off the head.
  • Mr. Cage's Neighborhood: Cage turns his opponent around with a punch, then punches them straight in the back and rips their torso off, causing their entrails to fall out as blood and gore spill out from the victim's torso. The background goes pitch black, leaving a spotlight on Cage as he begins performing a ventriloquist routine using his opponent as the dummy. The audience boos and start throwing tomatoes, with one hitting Cage's opponent in the face as he looks on smiling.
  • Hooked: Kabal slices the opponent's stomach causing their intestines to fall out, turning them around. He then slices the opponent's Achilles' tendons, and as they fall forward, Kabal quickly hooks his hookswords into their mouth. He finishes by placing his foot on their back and pressing his hookswords back, complete with the audible sound of the victim's teeth cracking, slowly cutting through the mouth until his swords come clean through the head, bisecting it horizontally.
  • Road Rash: Kabal hooks his opponent with one of his hookswords, then takes off running at supersonic speed, dragging his opponent with him and causing their face to get grinded off by the sheer speed, starting with their eyes being torn out from their sockets. After their face has been reduced to a bloody skull, Kabal stops and tosses his opponent before he dashes into his victim's path, holding out a single hooksword that then proceeds to brutally cut the opponent in half lengthwise, with blood going everywhere.
  • Face Like A Dropped Pie: Kano tackles his opponent and grabs him/her. He delivers a strong headbutt, followed by four more, leaving broken pieces of the skull on the opponent's bloodied face. We then cut to the opponent's perspective, as Kano grins sadistically like a maniac as he rears back to finish them off with one final headbutt, completely destroying the head into a mess of gore and blood. This Fatality is a bit reminiscent of Johnny Cage's "Little Improv" Fatality in MKX.
  • Last Dance: Kano pulls out a bottle of beer and drinks the entire bottle before smashing it in the opponent's face and stabbing their neck with the now broken glass. As the victim stumbles back and gurgles blood, Kano laughs maniacally and catches them by the wrist and dances a waltz with them as they bleed out, all with a vicious, satisfied grin on his face.
  • Royal Execution: Kitana tosses her fans at the opponent, spinning like saws where they cut and float at the opponent's neck and waist, severing the opponent's lower half from their body while keeping the head and upper body afloat. As Kitana keeps the fans spinning, she calls back the fan from the opponent's now severed waist, while the other fan keeps their head airborne. As it returns, Kitana kicks the fan back to the opponent's head, where it pierces their forehead.
  • Gore-Nado: Kitana throws one of her fans into her opponent's chest laterally, creating a huge wound. She then performs a protracted version of her tornado move, creating a massive cyclone that begins vacuuming out their intestines, innards and internal organs, completely eviscerating the opponent before they fall to the ground dead off-screen from massive exsanguination. Kitana then finishes by striking a pose in mid-air into a large flourish of blood and viscera.
  • Totem Sacrifice: Kotal Kahn summons a torso-shaped altar behind his opponent and kicks them into it. With two more kicks he brutally severs his opponent's head with the spine still attached to it, splattering lots of blood all over the altar. Summoning a skull-shaped totem above the altar, Kotal Kahn drops it onto the victim's head, completely crushing it into a bloody mess and sending both eyeballs flying out, with one of them sent flying toward the camera.
  • Kat Food: Kotal Kahn carves open his opponent's chest with his sickles, leaving their heart and lungs exposed (similar to the Angel Trap from "Saw III (2006)"). He then turns into a black jaguar, pouncing on the victim and graphically ripping their throat out before grabbing the victim's heart in his jaws (like what happens to the dead at Teyollocualóyan, the 7th region of Mictlán, the underworld of Aztec Mythology) and crushing it savagely, splashing lots of blood everywhere.
  • Headed Nowhere: Kung Lao takes his hat and decapitates the opponent before kicking his victim away. He then does a Wind Teleport to appear behind the victim to bisect him/her vertically in half, allowing their intestines and blood to fall out, and throws his hat at the falling head, severing the scalp and revealing the cut-in-half brain, sending large quantities of blood flying out in midair.
  • Meat Slicer: Kung Lao takes his hat and throws it behind the opponent and keeps it spinning mid-air. He grabs the opponent by their arms and spins them around, inching closer to his hat to cut off their shins. While spinning, we get a view of the opponent from Kung Lao's perspective, which quickly pans out to show him inching closer to cut off the legs, then their lower torso. As he finally throws the opponent, the hat faces towards them to cut them vertically in half.
  • Burn Out: Liu Kang delivers a barrage of punches to the opponent's torso, followed by four more (reminiscent to the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique from "Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)", each one leaving a burning hole in the torso, complete with their guts sticking out of them as well. Liu Kang then charges fire into his fist and delivers a one inch punch with enough power to destroy the entire torso, sending their internal organs and a lot of blood flying out in the air.
  • Belly of the Beast: Liu Kang does a double hitting overhead cartwheel kick to knock out the eyes of the opponent, then uppercuts them which causes the upper torso to fly upwards while the arms and head are separated. He then takes out his nunchucks to strike each falling body part into viscera starting with an arm, the head and finally the torso.
  • Double Trouble: Noob first slices open his opponent's guts with his sickle, which causes their intestines to fall out. He then shoves his fist into the open hole and sends his clone into the opponent's body, which is followed by the clone ripping itself out, starting by ripping the jaws open from the inside and tearing the opponent in half lengthwise from the inside with a massive shower of blood, intestines and guts spraying everywhere.
  • Split Decision: Noob divides his sickle into two and creates two portals. Four matching portals appear around his opponent, and each produces an arm that stabs into their upper and lower halves. Noob then quickly pulls his arms out of his portals, which pulls his victim apart and tears them into four pieces, spilling blood, inner organs and entrails everywhere. This Fatality is similar to Frank Cotton's death in "Hellraiser (1987)".
  • Alternating Current: Raiden lifts up his opponent with electricity. He then tears their limbs apart and pulls them back onto the opponent's body. Raiden charges a blast of lightning and then throws it at the opponent in a fashion similar to a Hadoken from the "Street Fighter" series and a Kamehameha from the "Dragon Ball" franchise, causing the limbs to fly away as a huge amount of blood splatters everywhere.
  • Direct Current: Raiden channels his lightning into blades on both of his wrists, then slashes the opponent twice at the mid-section, graphically cutting off their arms and bifurcating their abdomen. He then teleports behind the opponent and begins to electrocute their head, suspending the torso in mid-air as the bottom falls off from his first attack, spilling out their entrails. After the opponent is fully split in two, Raiden tears their head into two pieces with a burst of electricity.
  • You're Next: Scorpion covers his entire body with hellfire and lunges towards his opponent, barreling through their midsection in a spray of gore, leaving only their spine intact. As the opponent looks at their horrific gruesome injuries in shock, Scorpion takes his sword and decapitates the victim, then kicks their head into the air and fires his spear toward it, piercing through the mouth with blood spray. This Fatality is very reminiscent of Green Arrow's victory pose from "Injustice 2 (2017)".
  • Chain Reaction: Scorpion throws his spear into the opponent's chest and starts overheating it. He flips over the opponent's head and dives into the ground and straight onto the Netherrealm, vertically wrapping the blazing chain around the suffering opponent as they scream in extreme agony. As he exits from the Netherrealm by emerging back from theground in front of his victim, Scorpion snaps the cooked chain like a whip, vertically bisecting the victim's body.
  • Bloody Mess: Skarlet lifts the opponent's own blood in the air through their mouth and eyes and creates six stakes of it. The stakes pierce the enemy's chest, shoulders, heart and eye socket. Skarlet then laughs maniacally and presses the stake in the victim's eye socket before violently thrusting it out, causing the impaled eyeball to pop out through the head with blood splattering out while Skarlet lets out a triumphant yell and the opponent screams in agony.
  • Heart Condition: Skarlet launches tendrils of blood at the opponent's heart, and starts to rapidly pump blood through them. The excess of blood rushing to the opponent's heart eventually builds, and the heart explodes as a result from the extreme pressure like a car battery overloaded with electricity, creating a surge of blood and gore that bursts through the victim's chest.
  • To the Choppa: Sonya calls in a helicopter, and a spotlight appears on the dazed opponent. She then throws the opponent upwards by her legs. As the opponent is airborne, Sonya fires her hand cannons at the opponent, tearing off one of their arms apart in the process of being sent towards the rotor blades. In the resulting impact, the opponent's body is reduced to flesh and blood, leaving their head, arm, and legs intact as they fly away.
  • Supply Drop: Sonya grabs her opponent's arm and elbows it, breaking the opponent's elbow. She continues by delivering a second elbow to her opponent's face, breaking their nose. As the opponent falls down, Sonya calls in BUD-E, who lands on the opponent in the form of a supply drop with enough force to bisect the torso, separating the legs. As the opponent tries to crawl back, BUD-E shoots them in the face, leaving a huge gaping hole in the head as blood splatters out.
  • Ice-Cutioner: Sub-Zero encases the opponent's body up to the shoulder in a block of ice. He then chops off the opponent's head with a single blow from his Ice Axe, pouring blood everywhere. The head rolls over, whereas Sub-Zero picks up the head, freezes it, and proceeds to shatter it into gory pieces with a single punch.
  • Frozen In Time: Sub-Zero creates an ice clone holding a spear and slides toward his opponent, flipping them over his head and impaling them on the spear. As the opponent hangs upside down, Sub-Zero then plunges his hand into their chest and proceeds to brutally rip out their spine, taking their head with it. Finally, he violently impales the opponent's screaming head onto the tip of the spear, poking out an eyeball with lots of blood splattering everywhere.
  • Boss Fatality: Kronika lifts her opponent into the air and rips them in half at the waist. She then rewinds time, restoring the opponent before vertically ripping them in half from the head down. Kronika rewinds time once again, restoring the opponent once more, only to rip their skin off while afloat. Kronika then proceeds to repeat the fatality from the beginning, repeating the entire cycle in an endless loop for as long as she wants, even after being announced as the winner.
  • Maintaining Balance: Cetrion conjures water from thin air, and performs a small flourish with it before firing the water in a pressurized stream, completely tearing off the opponent's face. She then incinerates most of their legs off with a plume of fire and, as the enemy desperately tries to crawl away, Cetrion finishes them by sending three metallic blades through what's left of their body, splitting them into four pieces as blood proceeds to graphically fly out.
  • Good and Evil: Cetrion summons a set of rocks from the Earth, crushing her opponent with them before growing to a large size and stomping the victim's head. This destroys the rocks and leaves the victim paralyzed. Cetrion completes her Fatality by growing to an astronomical size and firing a beam from her mouth into the opponent that obliterates all but their limbs, sending masses of blood, gore and viscera flying out alongside the severed limbs.
  • Phasing Through Time: Geras disappears into sand and reappears behind his opponent, punching a hole through their pectoral. He then appears in front of his opponent and performs an uppercut to create a gash in their other pectoral. Finally, he appears behind the opponent again and strikes the back of their head with a powerful palm strike, causing their face to fly off and their brain to fly out of their skull with much blood splatter.
  • Peeling Back: Geras summons a sand wall behind the enemy and punches them to the wall with his sand fist, who bounces forward from the impact. Geras kicks his enemy into the wall, immobilizing them (similar to Atrocitus' Super Move "The Butcher" in Injustice 2 (2017)). Geras then grabs the victim's hand and rips the flesh off their arm, proceeding to finish the enemy off by completely tearing off their front half, spilling all of the victim's blood and internal organs in the process.
  • For The Kollection: Kollector kicks the opponent to the ground and then jumps on top of them. He then claws the opponent's ribcage and savagely tears their body apart, ripping the victim to shreds while they scream in agony. He then pockets their heart, rips off their head for his macabre collection once the spine is the only thing even holding it on, and concludes his attack with an overhead swing to the opponent's now headless corpse, crushing their lungs with much blood spray.
  • Head Lantern: Kollector lifts his opponent with his upper arms while his lower arms bisect them with his sickles, dropping their lower half and insides to the ground, spilling lots of blood everywhere. He then drops their torso to the ground and teleports behind them, swinging his mace and he lets it fly (in a fashion reminiscent to Scorpion) to hit the back of their head hard enough to violently pop out their eyeballs from their sockets, releasing blood in the area.
  • Back Blown Out: Shao Kahn hits the opponent in the stomach with his hammer, then smashes them over the back of their head, bringing them down on all fours. Finally Shao Kahn delivers a golf swing with his hammer, crushing the opponent's head inward with it flying through and out of the back alongside their entrails of their downed body with the spine attached due to the force of the blow delivered, sending a huge torrent of blood flying out as well.
  • Kahn-Sequences: Shao Kahn slams his hammer over the victim's head, crushing their neck inward and forcing the opponent to their knees. He then replaces his hammer with his spear, stabbing the opponent in the stomach and lifting them up into the air. Shao Kahn slams their body on the ground, cutting the opponent vertically in half with his spear, with their head falling through their severed body into a pile of their organs underneath their upright but collapsing body.
  • Kondemned To The Damned: Shang Tsung summons glowing chains on each of his opponent's limbs. The chains lift the opponent up and Shang Tsung summons a firey portal below them. Two undead shaolin monks appear from the portal and start clawing at the suspended opponent, tearing their guts out (á la Mileena's "Tasty Treat" Fatality). One undead monk rips off the victim's face, while the other pulls their skeleton out from their suspended body through their open stomach.
  • Shokan Reborn: Shang Tsung throws a soul orb at his opponent's chest, tearing a hole and exposing their ribcage. A pair of arms break out from their lower sides and rip off the opponent's arms. A second pair of arms sprout in the place of the ripped arms and pull at the opponent's chest, tearing it apart with enough force to blow them into pieces with lots of blood, gore and viscera flying everywhere, and emerging from the opponent's body is Kintaro who roars at the camera.
  • War Ritual: Nightwolf buries his tomahawk in the opponent's jaw and unhinges it. He then grabs the jaw and rips off the front of their torso, spilling out all of their organs on the floor. Finally, he throws his tomahawk at the opponent's heart, cleaving it in half while blood splatters everywhere.
  • Komo-tose: Nightwolf walks up to the opponent and proceeds to snap their neck, turning it around 180 degrees and launches them in the air with a strike from his gunstock war club. As they land Nightwolf catches the opponent and holds them over his head. He proceeds to summon his spirit bear Komo who appears behind him with a roar, then allows Komo to snap the opponent in half, breaking their spine, and finally flings both parts away, slinging a lot of blood in the air.
  • I'm Back: The Terminator kicks the opponent forwards and walks away. The opponent then looks up in a shocked manner at the Terminator now riding his motorcycle towards them, where he drives and spins the motorcycle into them, sending them flying into the air. The Terminator eventually spins and cocks his shotgun, using it to shoot the opponent and blast them apart into gory pieces, spraying blood and guts everywhere.
  • Target Terminated: The Terminator blows out both the opponent's knees with his shotgun, then uses the Time Sphere to send the opponent to the future, leaving behind the lower parts of their legs. They reappear in 2029 on a battlefield as the war between Skynet and humanity goes on. They try to crawl away, only for one of the Terminators to spot them and blast them with its laser rifle, blowing a hole through their chest as they scream in agony, splattering lots of gore everywhere.
  • Scream Queen: Sindel knocks the opponent backwards with a backflip and then uses her hair to grab the opponent by the arms. She then screams at them with such force that their skin rips off of their body and eventually tears off their lower half. She then stops to deliver one final fireball scream, which is so strong that it completely tears the opponent's body apart into pieces, leaving only their severed arms held by her hair as large quantities of blood and gore splatter everywhere.
  • Hair Today Gone Tomorrow: Sindel uses her hair to impale her opponent through their mouth and into their body. She then makes her hair come out of the victim's stomach before it constricts around them, impaling their arms, face (poking out their eyeballs), legs, and finally their torso. Sindel then wraps her hair around them before violently stretching it out taut by leaning backwards, pulling her hair off the victim's body and totally tearing them apart to shreds into a bloody mess.
  • Party Pooper: The Joker presents a birthday cake to his opponent and a sign falls down that says "FRIENDSHIP". Eventually, the dynamite candle in the cake explodes, blowing off his opponent's limbs and hurling them into the air. The Joker guns them with his tommy gun, popping the balloons on the sign behind the opponent to reveal "FATALITY" painted underneath in blood red. Eventually, the severed sign falls down, splitting the mutilated opponent in half vertically.
  • Pop Goes The Mortal: The Joker, whilst singing a song to the tune of "Pop Goes The Weasel", blasts a hole through his opponent's torso with his boxing glove gun, complete with their intestines dangling out of their back. He then saunters up to them, places a jack-in-the-box inside the hole and turns the crank. Soon, the jack-in-the-box activates, tearing the opponent's head away from their body from the force of the spring and extending it high into the air, splattering gore everywhere.
  • Unchained: Spawn digs his chains into the ground where they erupt underneath the opponent and coil around them, constricting and slicing against their flesh. Spawn then pulls the chains off the opponent's skin, ripping their skin off and flaying them. As they fall to their knees, Spawn engulfs his cape around them and enchants it with Necroplasm, giving them a firm squeeze before throwing it back, reducing the victim to a burnt skeleton as blood and organs fly out everywhere.
  • Rest in Pieces: Spawn wraps his cloak around his opponent's head and lifts them in the air. He then uses his chains to poke through the opponent's body in many different places. Afterwards, he sends Necroplasm moving along the chains to travel to the center of the opponent's body, which then reach their body and causes them to graphically explode into gory pieces with blood, guts and gore flying everywhere.
  • Twisted Twister: Fujin slices his opponent's gut open, causing their intestine to spill out. He then steps on it as he lifts them in the air with wind and spins them around, letting their intestine wrap around them. Fujin proceeds to then generate a violent twisting torrent around them before violently slamming them against the ground with enough force to splat them onto the ground, leaving their head and limbs scattered in a large heap of blood, gore and viscera.
  • Wind Blade: Fujin flies into the air and fires waves of high-powered wind at his opponent, slicing off their limbs and through their torso until they're left with an arm and a leg with a portion of their midsection barely holding them together. He then tosses his sword at them in spite of their pleas of mercy, impaling them hand first and landing with a powerful impact beneath their feet, leaving the opponent as a bloody shish kebab as blood and gore fly everywhere.
  • Spinal Tap: Sheeva grabs the opponent by the legs and slams their head against the ground with extreme force thrice, causing their lower jaw to graphically come off as we hear the victim making horrible gargling noises. Then she slams them one final time, steps on the head and pulls the body upwards, brutally ripping off the head from it with the bloody spine still attached in a rather gruesome reversal of Sub-Zero's famous "Spine Rip" Fatality, with blood and gore seen everywhere.
  • Stomp The Yard: Sheeva grabs both of her opponent's arms with her lower arms and then kicks the opponent away, ripping off the skin from their arms. She then begins to stomp on her opponent, tearing a large hole on their abdomen before stomping two more times on them, severing one leg and then one their flayed arms. She finishes by delivering a final stomp to the victim's body, tearing their body in pieces into a bloody mess and sending blood, guts and gore everywhere.
  • Dead Or Alive: RoboCop uses his terminal spike to stab his opponent's throat and blasts their hand off using his Auto 9, causing lots of blood to gush out. An ED-209 then approaches the opponent to blast them repeatedly with machine gun fire as RoboCop reaches for his Cobra assault cannon to blow them to pieces with a single shot, splashing blood, gore and viscera everywhere.
  • Thank You For Your Cooperation: RoboCop shoots a grenade at the opponent's head, which bounces off of them. He then targets their crotch and poses to shoot, the bullet piercing them and setting off the falling grenade behind them, causing them to get graphically blown off to gory pieces, complete with blood, guts and intestines spraying everywhere while RoboCop dramatically walks away with the ball of fire behind him.
  • Straight To Valhalla: Rambo violently throws his knife into the victim's shoulder, causing them to stumble onto a wire connected to a trap covered by leaves. The trap springs up to reveal bamboo spikes which brutally impales the opponent and keeps them still. Rambo then walks up behind them and jabs his fingers into the opponent's throat before tearing their neck open with his hand, ripping out their windpipe and larynx with blood splashing everywhere, á la "Rambo (2008)".
  • Parilla Thrilla: Rambo pulls out an ammunition belt from his machine gun, wraps it around his opponent's waist, and then kicks them backwards onto an electrified bed frame. The opponent is then savagely electrocuted, causing the bullets to fly in and out from their body, which then sparks a small explosion, tearing the opponent apart in half as their blood, guts and intestines fall out. Rambo then plunges his knife into their chin and pulls it through their face, cutting it in half.
  • Eye-Solated: Rain creates a giant spinning discus out of water, then throws it at his opponent (á la the Destructo Disk from "Dragon Ball Z: Doragon bôru zetto (1989)"), cutting through their body at the waist. The discus eventually turns into a waterspout that tears their skin off of their front torso along with the eyes. Rain then uses the discus to slice the body into four parts, with blood and intestines and organs spilling everywhere, and he finishes by catching the victim's eyes inside a water bubble.
  • Power Washer: Rain performs his Super Roundhouse kick on his opponent, then blasts two gaping bloody holes into their body - one through their head and the other through their chest. The camera pans through the hole in the chest, where Rain poses alongside Ermac, Reptile, and Smoke in homage of the cover of Queen's album "Queen II", before slicing his opponent apart into three pieces with two jets of water, with blood and gore spraying everywhere.
  • Spinning Out Of Control: Mileena rolls towards her enemy and pushes them down before flipping backwards into the air. She then takes out both of her sais and starts to rapidly spin around like a buzzsaw before diving downward at her victim, slowly splitting them apart in half vertically groin first while tons and tons of gore fly out of them. After completely bisecting the victim, Mileena tumbles across the ground and gets onto her knee, with intestines stuck to one of her arms and legs.
  • Violent Delights: Mileena grabs her enemy's arm and turns them around before grabbing their mouth and licking their neck and head. Mileena eventually slashes open her victim's stomach with her claws, causing their intestines to spill out and turning them back around. She then violently shoves her whole arm into the slash and grabs the victim's face, and she concludes her sickening Fatality by savagely ripping out her victim's face and organs all the way through their open stomach.
  • This is easily the most violent and graphic "Mortal Kombat" game so far, featuring all sorts of hideously gruesome, detailed, and elaborate carnage throughout that are the result of over-the-top yet sadistic, agonizing and brutally realistic Fatalities being done on the characters, and the game's overall incredibly dark, bleak tone and photorealistic graphics don't help.
  • Story mode is definitely less violent for the lack of fatalities/brutalities. Although there are some brutal cutscene moments, theyre not fatality level violent.

Profanity

  • The character Erron Black says GD at least once when you fight against a friend but not in "Story mode".
  • In some of the intros, the characters will have a tendency to insult each other.
  • One use of the f word and some uses of bitch and shit.
  • Johnny Cage gives the middle finger during one of his fatalities.
  • rambo says fuck some times in intros
  • rambo says around 18 fucks in the game

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Kano is shown to drink beer.
  • Jax is often seen smoking cigars.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Some of the characters, like D'Vorah and Shao Kahn, may frighten some. On a similar note, the villain Kronika is quite unsettling.
  • One of the characters, Kabal, has a Brutality which happens to be his classic "Freaky Face" Fatality. Here, he screams at the viewer, causing his eyes to pop out and his hair to fly everywhere before screaming at the opponent, scaring their soul out quite literally. This can be scary for some, but it's meant to be humorous.
  • When the Fatalities and attacks are performed on the Terminator, it frequently shows us his endoskeleton, which is very accurate to what's shown in the Terminator films. This can be somewhat frightening for some, but for those who are familiar with the character, then there's no problem. Also, the same thing applies to RoboCop.
  • When the Fatalities and attacks are done on D'Vorah, RoboCop and Spawn, their blood is turquoise, dark grey and neon green, meant to represent Kytinn blood, oil and liquid Necroplasm, respectively. This makes those attacks done on them looks significantly less graphic, but they're still extremely gory nonetheless.
  • This game returns us to the "Friendships" from the second MK game, and it allows the players to spare the opponent while they get the chance to have fun. They're much more lighthearted than the Fatalities, and are a perfect chance to finish a fight in a non-violent and pacific way. The list of Friendships include:
  • Nailed It: Baraka brings out a cake, then tosses it in the air. As he uses his blades to cut the cake, he makes a mess. A piece of cake then falls on his head.
  • Feeling Cute, Might Delete Later: Cassie takes numerous selfies with her smartphone.
  • I Feel Pretty: D'Vorah wraps herself in a cocoon. After a few moments, she emerges with a pair of butterfly wings and begins to fly around in the air.
  • What the Duck: Black stares at some carnival ducks while smirking. As the drum rolls and Western music plays, he successfully shoots all four ducks with his revolver and blows the barrel.
  • Frost-Capades: Frost freezes the ground and begins figure skating on it. She then stares at the camera, keeping her head in place and smiling while she continues skating.
  • Wibbly Wobbly Kronibop: Jacqui brings out an inflatable Kronika punching bag. Then she starts punching it before she knocks it away with a powerful punch. Jacqui then laughs in satisfaction, only for her punching bag to bounce back.
  • I Want Kandy: Jade hits a Shao Kahn piñata with her staff and eats the candy that falls out, laughing in joy and celebrating.
  • Dub Dub WB: Wearing a top hat and cane, Johnny Cage does a vaudeville dance as "Give My Regards to Broadway" plays in the background.
  • Bop It: Kabal rushes to a marimba and plays a melody.
  • Kiss The Crook: While wearing a chef hat, Kano walks up to a BBQ grill. He removes the lid, uses his eye laser to fire up the grill, and proceeds to cook shrimp and sausages (referencing his Australian heritage).
  • Do You Want To Build A Shao Kahn?: Kitana drops her fans to the ground and prepares to have fun with Mileena, who runs onto the stage and plays patty-cake with Kitana and moments later, the two hug each other, with the two giggling and sighing in affection.
  • G.T.L.: Kotal Kahn sets up his lawn chair and he then takes a sunbath.
  • Kung-Ductor: Kung Lao does a Wind Teleport and sets up a wooden train set around his hat for him to play.
  • Shaolin Hustle: A disco ball comes down from the top of the screen and Liu Kang dances.
  • Me And My Shadow: Noob Saibot summons two clones to play jump rope. He also adds some dance moves while jumping.
  • Earthrealm's Got Talent: Raiden summons Kidd Thunder and they perform a laser light show together.
  • Teddy-Ality: Scorpion brings out his spear and pulls a giant teddy bear for him to hug while sighing in relief (obviously poking fun at his dislike of teddy bears in MK 2011).
  • Masterpiece: Skarlet summons an easel, paints a stick figure with blood, and signs her name in the corner.
  • Fetch, Good Drone: Sonya plays fetch with her turret drone. It returns to her with a dead Tarkatan's body.
  • Frosty Treats: Sub-Zero runs away in joy and comes back riding an ice cream cart. He then uses his powers to make a popsicle, which he eventually plays with.
  • Sweet Serenity: With her powers, Cetrion conjures up a big tree, as the vines turn into a swing for her to swing.
  • Beach Party: Geras walks up to the sand, as he's phasing through time as he's building a sandcastle, then finishes by putting on a flag on the top tower while chuckling.
  • One Man Band: Kollector pulls out an array of collected musical instruments from his satchel and proceeds to play a melody using all of them.
  • Winner Winner Outworld Dinner: Shao Kahn raises his hammer, then hits a Strength Test with so much force the bell at the top breaks. Shao Kahn then makes his trademark taunt, laughing in triumph as the broken bell lands next to him.
  • Rainbow Konnection: Shang Tsung casts out his hands and makes a rainbow, with a green field with flowers forming on the ground in which he's standing.
  • Matokan Sideshow: Nightwolf brings out a hoop and lights it up in flames. He then calls out Kiba to jump through the hoop. With the trick performed, he throws the hoop away, letting his falcon swoop and rest on his arm while Komo is rolling on a circus ball in the background.
  • Stuntman: The Terminator turns and walks away, only to return on his motorcycle. He stands on top smiling with both arms outstretched (á la Titanic (1997)) and giving a thumbs up as it drives by, and he performs various stunts every time he drives off-screen and returns.
  • Sweet Serenade: Sindel produces a wine glass and attempts to break it with her scream, but breaks the camera instead. Embarrassed, Sindel laughs before drinking the wine and throws the glass into the air, which shatters to pieces upon impact with the ground.
  • Come On Bats: The Joker prepares to kill his opponent, but gets interrupted by a Batarang. After griping to the offscreen Batman, Joker pulls out a bunch of balloons as a half-hearted apology.
  • Hellish Desires: Spawn flips his cape, only to reveal that it has turned into a hammock, and Spawn reads the "Hellish Desires" romantic novel while lying in his cape. Occasionally, he turns his head around to check if nobody's looking.
  • Let's Go Fly a Kite: Fujin produces a Raiden kite and uses his wind powers to fly it, only to get occasionally dragged around by the kite at random times.
  • Krystal Clear: Sheeva plays a tune on a series of wine glasses and after she finishes, she crosses her lower arms and places both upper hands on her hips.
  • Breakin' It Down: RoboCop stops and performs a robot dance while wearing an OCP chain with the cassette player placed on the ground playing. The camera has a notable VHS effect when RoboCop is dancing.
  • Sexy Jax-A-Phone: Jax puts on a pair of sunglasses, pulls out a saxophone and starts playing the Mortal Kombat theme, all in a parody of the Epic Sax Gut internet memes a.k.a. "Saxrolling".
  • Sofishticated: Rain runs to a water shooting game. He shoots water with his finger into a target which blows up a balloon above the target with water. He receives a stuffed fish as a prize.
  • Demolition Man: Rambo puts on a vest and helmet and prepares his laser gun for a game of laser tag.
  • Teddy Bears Picnic: Mileena skips and brings a teddy bear dressed as her. She then spins it around in circle, then hugs it, before placing it on a chair at a table with two teddy bears dressed as Kitana and Jade, and begins to play tea party.
  • Although the violence is very over-the-top as always, the sheer amount of it alongside how extremely gory and graphic it is might make it disturbing for some.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • In one of Kano's intros, he is shown peeing before fighting. No nudity is shown but it is implied that he had unzipped and went.

Violence & Gore

  • In the very beginning of the Story mode, Raiden graphically tortures Shinnok in an exceptionally brutal and sadistic manner by mercilessly electrocuting him. We see Shinnok screaming in horrible agony as this happens, and eventually, Raiden graphically decapitates Shinnok. We see a lot of blood pouring out as the severed head falls down. Raiden then takes Shinnok's head and presents it as a warning to Liu Kang and Kitana in the Netherrealm. This whole sequence is deeply disturbing.
  • At the end of the story mode, Kronika, the game's villain, dies in two different ways: the first one being turned to crystal and then destroyed by Liu Kang, and the second one having her being brutally cut in half with a massive shard of the glass of her room's hourglass, then having an arm chopped off by another shard and finally, after unsuccessfully trying to crawl away, having her head cut in half by yet another shard before she's sucked in. This scene is EXTREMELY graphic.
  • In a scene from the story mode, Skarlet tortures Jade. This scene is very brief, but is very disturbing and somewhat graphic.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Much darker than its predecessors and even more violent than "Mortal Kombat X". Here, many main characters, especifically those from the previous games, die. This can be very emotional. This game is the Avengers: Endgame (2019) of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, and has a rather dark and depressing tone in comparison to the other Mortal Kombat games, and the storyline is very somber, with a generally foreboding atmosphere and it's very devoid of hope in various parts of the story.
  • In the first chapter of the story mode, Sonya Blade is trapped under debris and then, she detonates a grenade, sacrifing herself in the process while her daughter Cassie looks on. Raiden then tells Cassie that Sonya died and as a result, she breaks down crying, mourning Sonya's death and proceeds to hug her father Johnny Cage, all while Jacqui, Cassie's best friend, looks on in sadness and grief. This scene is very sad and powerful, and can make some people cry.
  • Midway through the story mode, Scorpion is mortally wounded by D'Vorah and then dies in his younger self's arms. Very emotional and upsetting, especially for the fans of the character.
  • Raiden is seen suffering from severe PTSD, due to the trauma inflicted by the tragic events he went through during the events of the previous games, which is what motivates him to mercilessly destroy anyone who threatens Earthrealm. This is pretty distressing, especially for fans of the character.
  • The "Aftermath" expansion continues where the ending has left, and it involves Liu Kang (now an Elder God) having to join forces with Shang Tsung in order to retrieve Kronika's crown in order to build the new timeline, and at the end, once the deed is done, the two fight for control of the crown, and depending on which ending you pick, it can end with either Liu Kang or Shang Tsung winning. The tone is noticeably darker than the normal story, and it can be distressing for some.
  • Overall, this game is very shocking, heavy, cynical, ambiguous, controversial and mind-blowing throughout. It is extremely strong, gritty, disturbing and intense, both visually and story-wise, due to the incredibly excessive amounts of extremely graphic brutal violence and the generally dark and bleak tone. The story reaches its darkest hour here, the stakes are higher, many main characters die, and the ending is very emotional. It is very disturbing, upsetting and thought-provoking.
  • Mileena and Baraka have huge fangs that might scare players
