- Beginning of the journey in Edinburgh: Jérôme meets Sarah Lachhab at the Baxter Hostel and they begin their walk through the town: the Anchor Close where the first edition of the British Encyclopaedia has been published, the Royal Mail (the view on the North Sea), the statue of David Hume (touching his foot brings luck), they see a dustbin for cigarette butts (you can vote for Sean Connery or Daniel Craig as the best James Bond): they eat crepes and see comedians in a courtyard.Then they go to the neighborhood of Leith (the old port of Edinburgh whose many buildings have been restored) and later they go by bus (Sarah pays the bus ticket by cell phone) to Meadows, a great park: they see shinty players, Nathan John Whear , captain of the Edinburgh University Shinty club explains them how to play shinty and they enjoy playing this game. Then Jérôme travels to Lerwick in the Shetlands: he meets there Beatrice Lowe who explains that Shetlands has its own identity (no bagpipe, no tartan and no clan), besides there are many Scandinavian family names.They enter into Jamieson's Knitwear, a shop with many Shetland wool products and Jérôme buys a sweater.At the fishing port they meet David Lowe, Beatrice's husband and Paul Forrest who invites Jérôme to the fishing of great scallops.Then Beatrice and Jérôme travel by ferry to the island of Bressay: near the seaside there is a lighthouse and houses transformed into in a guesthouse.They speak with the uncle Frank, who was the lighthouse guardian till 1986 and they visit the lighthouse.On the next day Jérôme goes fishing with Paul Forrest: they catch great scallop and sea urchins, but Paul gives back the sea urchins to the sea.Then Jérôme meets again Beatrice in a community center and they go to the farm of Lyle Lowe, Beatrice's brother who breeds sheep and now has young lambs.At the supper they eat great scallop prepared with black pudding.Later Jérôme meet Kaela Jamieson, the fiddle professor and musician, he listens to boys and girls playing fiddle: then Beatrice and Jérôme pay a visit to Tommy Jamieson, the luthier (who explains that violin and fiddle is the same instrument), they meet also Adam and Astryld.This night Beatrice, Adam and Astryld play Shetland folk music in Nesting Hall ( Shetland folk festival), Then Jérôme travels to the archaeological site of Jarlshof; Robina Barton invites him to a travel through the time : neolithic site (4.500 years B.C), then stone houses (1.700 years B.C.) and then Viking site (800 years A.C).After that Jérôme goes to Frankie's Fish and chips (they have received an award of best Fishe and Chips) and eats great scallops.Jérôme travel by plane back to Edinburgh and visits Dalhousie Castle: he is received by Andrew Pollock-Sharp who plays bagpipe and who tells him the story of Lady Catherine whose ghost appears in the the chapel and also in other parts of the castle.In Edinburgh Jérôme meets Paul MacDonald, an gunsmith ad masters at arms who is restoring swords: they go to Arthur's Seat and Paul shows him how to use the sword. Besides we see zooms about the legends and mysteries of Scotland (the story of Lady Glamis, the visit of the cemetery of Edinburgh with Caroline Walker or the story of Steve Feltham at the Loch Ness), about the Festival of Fire in Edinburgh, about the island of Noss (where Greg is observing for 10 months each the sea birds ( northern gannets and common shags), about Sam and Jane Berington who care for seals,about the ferries which are connecting the Shetlands Islands, about Colin Jamieson, the veterinarian who visit each Thursday the cattle breeder of the island of Unst , about the famous Bobby's bus stop , about the young letter carrier who delivers the mail in the mainland island, about the weaver Andrew Ross in the island of Yell, and about the gin production in Scotland.—zutterjp48
