Disappointment
JesSkyG11 September 2019
I have read the manga and was very happy when I heard that the anime was being made. But this seems to be made to ruin the story. The very carefully constructed atmosphere put together by the author on the manga version is a no show due to the fast pacing of the screen adaptation. The order of events is wrong, too many jumps that I couldn't even understand the time passing and the animation itself is very bad, a lot of issues in many areas. It seems that the ones who put together this anime have no idea on how to maintain/ create an ominous atmosphere, put thriller and mystery to the thing which is very sad because the manga had it already they just "edited it out of the plot". As for the people that haven't read the manga, this is a very average anime... almost bad but the plot saves it big time. Everything should have been done in a more explained way and using more of the manga because if taken from there it would come up on the list of best animes of the genre.

Lousy adaptation to film
moonracer012014 July 2020
Another diehard fan of the "7 Seeds" manga here and a diehard fan of Yumi Tamura, who is perhaps the greatest manga artist in the history of this art form. Tamura has outdone herself with 7 Seeds. It is a gem--a deeply complex, compelling shoujo manga that appeals to all genders and ages (though may be inappropriate for children under 13).

Why Netflix would attempt such a half-assed job at animating this manga is beyond me. I suspect it was a decision based purely on avarice and a desire to diversify their TV drama selection. But clearly the decision makers at Netflix are not manga fans or else they would have known better than to half-ass the equivalent of the Lord of the Rings. Yes, that is how awesome 7 Seeds is and even Peter Jackson who directed LOTR prepared to fully pay homage to this great work of fantasy. Alas, there was no Peter Jackson at Netflix, so they hired the crappiest screenwriters and lousiest animators that their stingy budget could afford and ruined the greatest manga of all time.

I can only hope that a better production company one day attempts to animate Tamura's "Basara" manga one day. Someone who understands the delicate emotional sensitivity and complexity of great shoujo works and will endeavor to properly animate this lovely work of art.

It can definitely get better but still decent.
dustburn8020 July 2019
So I just binged watched part 1 and I would like to say that I loved the intensity and the atmosphere they have created. Thankfully they have not skipped on the gore and the violence, though, I wouldn't mind if there was more. It makes your perception of their world more real in my opinion as you have something to experience for yourself even if its just from watching.

I like the fact that they try to have different story lines combined with love, jealousy, selfishness and other human emotions/qualities; but the transitions and the developments in each storyline was lacking as it feels they are just crammed in and do not have a natural flow to it as I may say. To me the pace was similar to last season of GOT.

I do not know much about anime production but it seems like they had reached their publishing deadline without actually finishing the job and making sure everything was perfect. The editing was mediocre and some scenes just flew by.

I very much liked the art unlike some other people. Each artist has his/her own way of expressing art and we shouldn't always expect it to be the same as our expectations or liking. Just saying.

Also the plot has holes. It is cool and amusing but with very obvious holes. And some "wtf no sane person would do such things" reasoning behind some actions. It still was fun to watch.

I also get the feeling that this anime has a happy ending kind of story with not many definite surprises. I personally do not like such stories as it is boring, no matter what happens in the end its all good. But I wish I am mistaken.

Better than many reviews state
sandrobetschart6 July 2019
I don't understand some reviews. This series has some action, is going into mental connection and the fear of individual characters. It is not a spoiler that a meteorite fell on earth as this is kind of in the description. Also seriously? You complain about pastell colours and then full colours or that synchronization is bad? Well, I suggest you watch the original version in Japanese, have some good internet connection and just let yourself sucked into the atmosphere what would you do if you were on a lone island with monsters and you cannot understand.

This series is great to switch off and escape into your fantasy world. Though the episodes are rather short and too less exist, I can warmly recommend this to anyone who likes Japanese language paired with apocalypse and emotionally escaping from the real world.

For all who just like action, thrilling, complicated story and a perfrct picture and picture/language synchronization (that most manags do not have) - stay away and dom't give a one star rating. This is not what such a serie deserves!

This started promissing, but ended up being really boring.
ZEROspawn20 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The idea of freezing people to let humankind survive a extinction level event is a good idea. But then it quickly falls apart, as we get to see more of the people they went with, how they did it and how long they where frozen for.

Firstly they only froze 35-40 people, not all in breading age or of equal amount of gender, or even people that wanted to bread, already here we meet a dead end. But it gets worse, the longer we go. Because they are mostly chosen by random, yes not by skill or anything else, except one team that is well emotionally unstable to say the least. But even if all get together and impregnate equally, they amount of diversity wouldn't be enough. And what is worse they have sprede them out in small groups all around the country. And they don't even star where the food and supplies are storage, they have to travel 1000's of km to get to them.

And we learn they have have been frozen for million of years, as the environment, plants and animals all have evolved way beyond us. Cities have crumbled, vaults have failed. But a sailing boat, made of wood and hemp sails, have survived in perfect condition while being in the water exposed to the elements, not even in a dry dock. How ? Even today a boats made of better material will starts to leak, and break down in a few years if not maintained. We can barely find traces of boats made 1000 years ago, let alone 100.000 years ago and this is millions of years.

Then there is the story, it's boring as hell. It's not them surviving this new strange world. Nope, it's them mostly fighting each other, and the things the world left behind, stuff that should be long gone or stopped working. A ship sitting in the ocean isn't going to have electronics that works after 100 years let alone after 1 million.

As a anime story it's weak, but that's because many other shows have done this story so much better already, and even the "choking" scenes are really not that well done, or have a in world logical reason to happen. Why is the "fertilizer" machine even a thing ?. It makes no sense in the past to kill the children as they would die anyway when the meteors came, and it would be better to use them as soldiers, give them another spot or keep as a backup instead. The one in the vault seems even dumber, as it implies that the ones who build the vault foresaw that accident could happen, and instead of using the time to build a backup storage and systems. They instead used the time to build a fake train track, and a fertilizer machine instead, even just filling the tunnel with supplies would have avoided this, and humans are not really that useful to use in the first place, instead of bugs, waste products and so on. And it even turns out the vault isn't even secure, as a "tick" gets inside killing them all by turning them into goo. How or where it comes from isn't said, as it's does not exist today and the vault was only working for a few years at most. But hey, at least the vault have some sort of eternity power core or something. As even millions of years later it still runs perfectly and have even kept the freezer runner for all that time, how I don't know as we have nothing today that can do this, even nuclear needs maintenance. It could be geopower, but as we have seen the Earth have shifted much over time, so pipes, sediments and the water table would have change.

Again it was promissing, but go watch other shows instead if you think this was a 5 or up, as you clearly are either new to anime or trying to be edgy by claiming this was special somehow.

Too much at once, rushed but worth watching
sisubalan15 October 2022
Great concept and great sound engineering. An okay animation style but the pace of this anime is rushed at some point since the earlier episodes. Action packed and great watch for adventure geeks. A little bit of scifi and horror. Huge fan of isekai and post apocalytic storyline. Plot wise is okay, not that great tbh. Great characters and developments almost on all of the characters throughout part 1 and 2. Some extreme choices on some characters like ango and ryo (hate them). Some poor choice on characters like hana, arashi, semimaru, etc - taking turn to be annoying, ruthless and keep getting a complete personality change. Basically driving me insane. Great original opening and ending songs - very japanese pop rock & soft indie songs. Touch on climate changes, meteorites, evolution, science experiments, bacteria, viruses, sustainability, family issues, trauma, friendship, survival, etc. All in one - maybe the reason why i felt it was rushed and put in a very complex flow. Recommended but definitely not for younger audiences due to very disturbing scenes. Wanted more but apparently it was cancelled after part 2.

A complete waste of potential
revlar30 June 2019
The manga is award-winning for its art and atmosphere, and none of that is carried over to this adaptation. Pacing is an issue too, both in the structure of the episodes and the way the dialogue has been adapted. It's unnatural, almost parody. There's even clear production mistakes like characters moving their mouths but not making a sound. A panning shot of their first sight of the cat island goes so fast it looks like amateurish editing.

It ruins its own premise by showing the opening in the first episode. No longer is what happened to cause this situation a mystery: The opening clearly shows meteors hitting Earth. No longer is it a mystery whether other people even exist in this new world: Every relevant character for this first part is shown one after the other, many with spoilers for their arcs in sequence.

Altogether the team behind this adaptation should not have been trusted with source material of this level.

Worth watching!
alhindib-055451 March 2021
This show really is great. The plot line is good, and if you are into complex stories you'll love this one. There is so much character growth and there is so much room to expand the show into further seasons. Of course the show will not encompass the entire manga, it's very naive to think any anime show will do that. Looking forward to a third season!

Just a summary of the original.
Chocoalatv18 January 2020
I'm a HUGE fan of the original manga, so I was excited to hear that Netflix was turning it into anime.

BUT...

1st episode was a TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT.

I almost stopped watching in the middle but my husband who does not know the original was watching with me so I finished it.

1. They just revealed the whole story in the opening!!! WHY WOULD THEY???????

2. They just skipped through so many details. IT CONFUSED my husband who doesn't know the story.

3. They changed the looks of characters so much. I guess to an extent this can't be helped but... disappointment to a big fan of the original artwork.

But for some odd reason that I don't understand, I kept watching, and it started to grow on me.

Not sure if the story made any sense to people who haven't read the manga, but if you just see it as a "summary of" or "introduction to" the original, this serves the purpose just fine (?).

At least they didn't change the story; they just summarized it.

Distracting pacing and plot issues, otherwise strong premise
KrionZed6 July 2019
Great premise, but the execution is lacking. It jumps from scene to scene, with sometimes drastic changes in between despite only a second having passed. Time skips abound... Also quite a bit of artistic and metaphoric hubris, which is unnecessary and just drags the plot down. Too many cliches and moments of deus ex machina, too. Overall, a good premise let down by poor writing/direction.

Basically it is not a bad show, as long as yo are in your early teens I guess. When you're older you see through the bad plots, simple dialogues and illogical choices the people make. It's a bit like "the 100" where a group of teens end up in a "after the catastrophe world" and have to survive. But the same with that show, when you're older you can't connect. Season 1 is pretty good, season 2, with the ark, goes for the worse. The illogicallities and silly dialogues/plots follow each other so quickly the series looses its pace and also its attraction.

Promising but far from perfect.
dameon_green28 March 2020
I've not read the Manga so keep that in mind.. The story and concept is very fresh and appealing, as is the unusual trope twists, and the characters have promise, but it's not quite there..

Especially as of the second season, the characters are missing that key element that makes you really connect with them and make mistakes that go beyond excusable to the inexcusable, but I don't regret the time spent watching it, yet..

This anime is everything you could want in an anime, it has action, a lil romance, and deep characterization that drives into the human psyche in a beautiful way. The bad reviews of people whinning about how their disappointed need to get a grip. Of course the anime isnt going to live up to the manga, the manga has 50 something volumes, its impossible to shove all of that into an anime. I am sick of all these biased reviews. It is a AMAZING anime, probably my favorite so far.

Oh what Could Have Been!
timfthechef1 March 2023
I think I can review this show in 2words: HOT MESS. I have finished watching the episodes, and for once, I do not feel sad that it is over. I actually feel Angry, because 7Seeds could have been GREAT. I'm talking about Attack on Titan level of great. The potential was there, but it was totally wasted. IF done right, this show would still be alive and well. Instead, we were given a messy story, with too many ideas cramed into 24 episodes. I won't go into detail, but the setting, cast of characters, beautiful artwork, and a really great concept were all wasted. Maybe someday another studio will revive this show, and do it right. I keep thinking about what could have been, and how great this could have been!

The Definition of Average
ebomke30 June 2019
Where to begin with this show.

Story : Its muddled to say the least. The writers dont have the competence to give you any motivation to continue watching. By that I mean that its very hacked together. There is no flow to the narrative.

Characters : In the first few episodes there is maybe 2 or 3 likable characters. The rest could be left to die and the show wouldnt suffer in any way. There is a difference between writing a character that conflicts with others, writing a villain, and putting flaws into a blender and calling it a character. It feels as if the writers got to the first dimension of a character, got scared, and pulled it back to about 0.5 character dimension.

Animation/Look : This is where half of my issues come from. The animation is average at best. The 3D is not integrated well, and the 2D is very saccadic. Because the artists didnt match the colors in some places it can feel like you are watching a nice background painting that had paper cutouts of characters put over top with no blending.

The Good : I know it feels like Im ranting. Its purely from the bad taste left in my mouth. The good portion of this show is the overall plot. The episodes individually may be weak, but the plot as a whole isnt terrible. You could say that since that portion is form the Manga that maybe the manga would be a better format for this series. I have always been a fan of plots like Lord of the Flies, Battle Royale, Swiss Family Robinson. Modern people deserted on an island with no information, what do they do.

Overall, I would hard pass this show. If I heard someone mentioning they were going to start it I would probably let them know the same. Its a failed attempt at a good idea.

S1-2 ⚠ The seeds of civilization 🆚 the weeds of human nature ⚠ °Good° °6.9° 💯%🔍
50fiftillidideeBrain1 August 2022
7S is planted in post-apocalyptic soil. Varied Teams of 7 awaken to what is, apparently, a pristine alien-like 🌏; one that's different than the world they all remember, in more ways than just the strange virgin landscape.

The team we follow (Summer B) doesn't know what is going on or why they are here; neither do they have any special knowledge or skills. It later comes out that they are a back-up, or alternate team to one of the main ones (Summer A) which only causes additional frustration & confusion.

Straightaway, they learn that their situation is perilous. It's been many multiple decades since civilization went under. They aren't entirely sure ❇how long they've been asleep, but there's been sufficient 🕝 for new creatures to evolve. (Radiation may have had a hand in that). The fauna & flora aren't familiar, and much of it is killer. Seriously, it's deadly. People are dying. As the team ventures out, they will begin to meet other teams, some of which woke up years ago. Is guessing that one of the biggest threats turns out to be mankind? To write it any other way would just be too fantastical. Will these teams be able to cultivate a better society this time around? Things never seem to ev♻lve ❇that way,D🤔 they?

As we get to know assorted teams & individuals, it just gets weirder. What IS the plan? There's no pattern to any of it. Some teams have specialists, some just have high schoolers & college athletes, and some have specific vocations. Some teams are combat trained, some teams had intensive survivalist training, and other teams, like SummerB woke up with no idea, at all, of what is going on. They all have team leaders, but there's no pattern to the leaders, either. They're are of all different hues.

One team is the furthest from typical: They are weapons trained & highly dangerous, and probably highly disturbed. There are other shady characters spotted here and there, put forth as monitors of some type. It does make the viewer wonder: 'What is really going on? Are they just throwing some dirt & manure on us?' That scary team, with the intensive training, always talks about the rough tests that they were put through. Some even have flashbacks about them. Some of them get confused as to whether the tests are still going on or not...

With no idea what the coming story is, one still is tempted (or taunted) to speculate about the nature of the reality depicted.

I started 7S and another anime at the same time, not being sold on what to watch next. I'm still familiarizing myself with anime by mixing subgenres and a variety of ratings. The other show is a light-hearted space romp following a pure-hearted, teenaged boy who discovers he has powers. Tired out template aside, but it's a fun piece. Initially, 7S seemed slow by comparison, so I picked off single Eps gradually. As time went by, appreciation swelled like the growing tide.

Every episode uncovers some new drama or mystery, and it all leads to more adventure. The plants are new, the animals are new, the dangers are new (and old) and the net🌐 is down. ALL the nets are down. Later episodes deal with a crazy abandoned ship that they explore. The whole sequence is just good 'ol 📺.

7S is imaginative & clever. It's sad and rough, even shocking at times. Sadly, by the end of S2, even the likable protags aren't likely to form a strong bond with any viewers. There is potential, but the stage is still being set. The seeds (ahem) have been sewn for alliances and families to form. Next could only be factions & war. Some other heavy drama is in the forecast as well. I think we can all feel a shocker or two rumbling in the distance; it's not necessary to put our ears all the way to the ground to sense that.

The artwork🎨 is largely standard, but it's also quite stunning at times. There's close ups of water that are mesmerizing.

Who's the troublemaker? In a show with almost no 😅, we have the Ginger. Our Ginger is not a Weasley, but he is a bit of a weasel & thief. Perhaps he'll try to be better for the wholesome female he seems to like: At the times when it ❇really matters, he's been coming through. Snarkily fun, he's written right down the middle, & could go either way. You just wouldn't want to buy a used car from him. Not today, at least. (Hey! It's the Apocalypse. There's no roads and there's nowhere to get gas anyway). Anyway, he's the ❇closest thing to any sort of fun. {I do realize it's not Shaun Of The Dead, & the immediate post-apocalypse era isn't supposed to be fun ~> T👀 s👀n}

The bad news is that it's a 2-&-done. Just when it's really getting good, it ends. The show probably lost viewers between seasons 1 & 2 . S1 doesn't provide much bounty, and it's doubtful anyone's priority was to see what's growing up at 7S in S2. It's a shame, because S2 carries the story many rungs up the ladder, like a climbing vine.

All-in-all, 7S is good 👀 meaning it starts avg, but ends up better-than. Furthermore, this anime, based on a 35 vol manga that was written over a span of 16 impressive years, has not been officially canceled. This means that there's a chance that S3, though not yet announced, may still happen. Without a doubt, most viewers want to know what 🌱sprouts up next. I certainly do. Manga readers already know. No spilling the seeds, though, until we're sure the anime is fully grown🌾

〰🖍 IMHO

🎬6.5 〰🖋7.5 🎭7 💓5 🦋5 😅1⚡ 7 🤔7 🎨7.5 🌞1 🔚?

Age 14+ I was surprised to see 7S listed with a mature rating. I don't recall anything that would warrant it. Some 14 year-olds might find this too disturbing, but most probably won't. There are difficult emotional, and physically violent situations (though not gratuitous, gory, nor graphic).

There's one attempted sexual assault, though it stops almost as it starts. It's brought into question later whether it was merely an attempt to scare the woman. (I realize that doesn't matter much; it's scary, and it's assault either way, but it aptly illustrates how, after the fact, more than one version of things is likely to come out). 7S is actually sugar-coated. In a world where there are no law enforcers, and no laws, it's dangerous for everybody; that always goes 10-fold for women. The female protags in 7S are growing strong so as to stand on their own: They're learning to rely on themselves, not other people, and at the same time, they want to contribute and not let the team down.

One reason age recommendations are listed as so that parents can evaluate what they want their kids to 👀, but also what they permit their kids to watch alone. We all have to consider our philosophy of parenting: Is parenting supposed to be about shielding your children from everything unpleasant, or exposing them in the right way at the right time, so that you can prepare them to deal with the big bad 🌏? I'll encourage you to consider taking every opportunity available to let your daughter know: 1. She needs to be aware of what's going on around her 2. Be prepared to defend oneself. Be strong. 3. But! Factually, at the end of the day, most women won't be able to fend off most men. Therefore, to maintain safety, avoid bad situations that could set up something like that. 4. Don't go into a potentially vulnerable situation with somebody that has not earned your trust yet. Trust should not be given, it should be earned.

Anime, in general, is not something that you 📺👀 with your brain turned off. The 🖋〰 in shows like 7S, and the more jolting Tokyo Ghoul and Psycho Pass, is always about overcoming the black🖤heart of humanity. How can one do that, if one is not aware of it or not able to comprehend it? Anime usually leaves us with many things to be pondered and discussed later. Thus, all the geek🤓fans....

Interesting premise but has issues
bottledplant12 July 2019
The premise is interesting but that's it. The animation is very average and sometimes bad. In some scenes the characters don't move their mouths when they talk, and in one particular scene in episode 2 the ocean was made with terrible cg so that characters looked as if their torsos were floating in space. Modt characters are unlikable and annoying. Some of them don't even act like a real person and do stupid things that are beyond reason. To an extent sometimes the story/plotline doesn't make sense as well. Ok it's fiction I know but seeing characters having generic anime cliche personality and cliques in a serious survival situation is annoying.

This is a very well written story and very good dialogue.
my-chemical-friend27 March 2020
The storyline is very good even if there is some issues in the plot execution in overall is a very interesting and great concept. This is one of the most interesting tv series I have seen in a very long time and I am not a fan of this kind of anime and story's like I hate the 100 for example but this has nothing to do its much much better Than the tv series with the same kind of plot. The second season I finished it in one night it's even better than the first one.
