Do you want to know the biggest issue I have with this show? The casting. The premise of the show is a bunch of people from different times who have been missing for X number of years suddenly return and it's a mystery. So do you know what is incredibly preposterous? That you have young kids leading the investigation. I look at some of these actors, and while they would be terrific in another show, they don't belong here as the leads. This is one of the greatest incidents in human history and you have what? 23 year olds leading the investigation? Silly. These would be people in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s. You know the type to be leading this? A Sterling K Brown, an older guy from The Wire, so many Black actors who look like they have done the job for years and you believe them when they say things, but this feels like kids playing dress up. It's INCREDIBLY distracting. I can barely focus on what they are saying because I don't believe them. I feel like my nieces are wearing grown up clothes. 2. The writing. I really liked the original 4400. I own it, but that's not why I don't love this. The plus? The diversity is good, but the writing and casting isn't.
The original of the 4400 was a much better series. This is very boring, I found it hard to stay focused on it beyone four episodes. The acting was poor and very little to entertain us.

...and I kind of agree. Synopsis talks about 4400 overlooked and blah blah. So, one main character is a lawyer, another is doing a reality show, this and that. How are they somehow in a bad place? Oh, right, this is about USA and skin color: nobody is white, and almost everyone is black. That's the main story.
They mention people were taken "from all over the world", yet they only focus on a handful of black people from USA. They try so hard to make everything about skin color. It alienates people who aren't all into USian politics. It detracts from the story.
And the story... I'm in episode 10 now. There's not much of a story. It's all overshadowed by other things. This isn't scifi, this is just narrative of one country's societal issues based on skin color. If in 10 episodes you haven't gotten anywhere in the actual plot, the one that's supposed to be the story, I don't think it's going anywhere.
If this gets a second season I hope they actually take off their skin color glasses and actually think which show they're doing: scifi story, or societal commentary. You clearly aren't capable of doing both.

The original 4400 was released in 2004, before the whole superpowers thing became as hyped as it is today. It added a realistic layer missing from the comic series. That was the main reason of the success, given it was quite an average show otherwise (too much drama, some poor story choices, etc.).
It would be reasonable to assume the remake of an 18-year old show with 7.3 on IMDB should have some improvements to be a success nowadays.
The new show did none of that. It has poor story, execution and full of cliches. Remake adds nothing of value and tanks with the things already existing in the original. Alas, from the very beginning the story diverges quite significantly, so it cannot be called a remake any more anyway.
Why would you make a remake of 4400, if "The Manifest" is already a copy / heavily inspired by the old 4400.
Why not make a new fresh story without reusing the franchise? The result would still be bad, but at least without the disappointed fans.
And why reuse the franchise if the plot is so divergent from the original from the start?

I do when I feel there is something to say, I will also add I am not from the USA
I got through about 20mins of EP1 and gave up, this show is quite honestly garbage - it is poorly scripted - poorly acted - poorly directed and is painful to watch
I'm not going to get into any of the racial type comments from others as I am not interested in that and it is irrelevent to me, this show is just bad - really bad.

So I read the synopsis about the show and loved it then saw the rating which is not so good and after some search, I arrived at the 2004 version of this show, watched the First Season in a night and I fell in love.
But then I decided to give this one a chance and that reminded of that time I ate a whole back of sweets and it gave me sugar rush... Only this time it is Cringerush.
I am neither white nor black nor American to begin with so I am not biased here... but what is wrong with this race obsession? People this is 2022, be a little bit progressive. It is not about the color of your skin anymore in most parts of the civilized world.
The agenda it is pushing is not even neutral. If I don't know what Woke is then I would call this Afrocentric.
And what is with white people being dushbags around every corner?
Synopsis: A ... the only thing good Writing: D ... doesn't make sense Acting: C ... can't complain
Why did they disgrace the original?

Just like a few of the other CW shows, 4400 uses the name, but very little else from the source material. It's sad to see how little they bothered to invest. The show is about 4400 missing people mysteriously reappearing, but you never see more than 20 extras, all living in an abandoned hotel. Rounding out the cast are unnecessarily raged filled racist guards and clueless government officials.

Ok, so most of the lead cast are black. So what.
The lead cast of Fresh Prince of Bell Air was black.
I dont have any issues with that.
What I dont really like is the race inequality that is so clearly presented in the show.
Why are all the guards in the hotel white and mean?
Why do they act like its 1960?
Its very possible some of them are bullies, but there usually are allso good guys, right?
So far Im not convinced this will be good, but I'll give it a chance.

I'm sorry to say this piece of garbage could have been made so much better!!
If 4400 people suddenly appeared, I'm sure they wouldn't be treated the way these people are being treated.
Who wrote this garbage??

The TV show has decent acting a pretty cool plot some cool sci-fi stuff and what appears to be some pretty gentle representation of how people would be treated. If 4400 people of color (mostly) just suddenly appeared in a group like this they would not be put into hotel rooms they would be put into a black site out in the Nevada desert.
There seems to be a trend lately that any time there are people of color in a TV show or movie and then that same Program tries to even graze a social topic then it's automatically "woke" and they must immediately get a one star rating. I think we as a society need to start looking inward and seeing why it upsets us so much.

This is a remake. The original series (and WAY better) is from 2004.
So, again, why someone decided to do a remake, and a awefull one?
Bad dialogue, slow paced, boring. Acting not that bad, but tha's it.
Want to knkow the story? Go watch the original from 04.

Weak, weak, weak. So they hit us with the checklist right away.
There is so much that is sad about this pitiful pilot. Actors? Where? I see some wanna be actors who have a lot of training to do.
Plot? Good grief, Charlie Brown. The storylines are mere whispers of what they could have been.
I am not going to waste anymore of my precious lifetime writing about this sad excuse for a scifi series. This version of the 4400 is a Nitwit show.

Not sure what was the motive behind this series and the story they are trying to tell . The original series well done with a great story right from the beginning. Not sure if I will make it through episode 2.

I absolutely loved the original it took you into a whole other world, this one takes you no where literally, the shows plot does not move, two episodes in and its the same script, characters are not interesting, there it good diversity but that is about it. The show could be so much more.

Occasionally, this is so bad that it becomes fun. Unfortunately, most of the time it's just horribly and bluntly bad.
Two stars for those unintentionally entertaining moments.

Update: After giving this a fair shot and generously watching the entire season, this is more like a 3-5 out of 10 rating. The writing is very weak and the show is simply not engaging. I remember enjoying the original. This was a disappointment. I was really rooting for this especially with all the premature hate it was getting. Oh well.
_______
I loved the original show and was excited about this reboot. To be honest, the first few minutes were a little cringe and I thought it might become a race baiting show based on these biased reviews but it's nothing like that. Even the writing has gotten WAY better and we're only on episode 2. Some shows just need time to find their bearings but many of these negative reviewers are too prejudiced to give this a chance. They watched a few minutes, saw a show that reflected the world's diversity, got annoyed and trashed the show with poor reviews and ratings. They keep complaining about the diverse cast as if the real world isn't diverse. They keep complaining about how the cops are represented and even lied and said all the cops are white and look evil and that all the 4400 are black people being targeted by them. What show are they watching?
This show has asian, black and white cops. The 4400 consists of white, black, LGBTQ etc. Same for the other characters. There's literally just one psycho cop and let's not pretend that people like him don't exist in real life or that others, in this case other cops and staff, don't enable them by doing nothing.
And as for the "targeting" part, which show have you EVER seen featuring vanishing RETURNEES from different time periods, talk less of them having SUPERPOWERS, that weren't targeted?! Name a single one. You can't. The same targeting happens with the 4400 on the original show.
For me, this show is at least a 7/10 (might increase or decrease as I watch) but I'm giving it a 9 because of the unfair ratings. If you were looking forward to this, give it a fair chance then make your own decision. The show follows a nice pace. It's entertaining yet pretty chill. Makes a great palate cleanser if you watch more intense or action packed shows.

I was excited about this reboot; however, I would've preferred that they finish the original instead of moving forward with this one. I think they're trying so hard to be inclusive, that they're getting in the way of their own story.
I get that they wanted to show different perspectives, but they could do a lot better here if they focus on the story. Comparisons to the original are inevitable, so it's even more important that they work on telling a compelling story. So far, they've fallen short, but I'm hoping they get it together.

The original was fine, not great!
This reboot is a disaster!
This is just ticking every box of political correctness with the subtelty of an aircraft- carrier! Nothing feels natural, everything is hamfisted, forced in to be " woke"!
We are used to black superheroes by now- nothing wrong with that! And that every movie or series need a gay- couple: fine!
But watch this and play a drinking game: if you have one shot for every forced clichee, you will be p*$$drunk, before the first episode reaches the halfway mark!
Do yourself a favor and watch the 2004- original!

Im laughing reading some of the reviews here. Both positive and negative.
This show definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea.
It has a lot of African American returnees portrayed so far - which I've enjoyed as it's highlighting the changes in the world since they disappeared both positive and negative.
I feel the show is playing on this aspect while it can in the first season. They won't be able to keep using this as time progresses.
I've only seen 3 episodes so this 8 rating could go up or down quite easily yet.
The slow introduction of powers is interesting too. And there's a lot of potential with 4400 people to go.

And that's all I have to say about that. Midway through the autumn 2021 season, there are only 3 shows I look forward to weekly. Ghosts on CBS, Chucky on USA and 4400. The negative reviews on this series seem a bit loaded and rooted... The show is actually pretty good so far and does a good job of pacing itself to unroll the mystery of the 4400.

It takes like 10 minutes to realize this is garbage.
Rebooting a show that is from 2004 is already questionable, but missing every beat of and point of what made the original interesting takes a special kind of ignorance. Avoid at all costs, watch the orginal. The reboot is just about checking boxes - quality of writing is stone carving level and acting is medicore.
NO NO NO - if you can't improve or enhance the original show just stay away or rebooting something wortht watching.
