For the second year in a row, multiple films have the potential to win Oscars for both Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Of course, the nominees from “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” are looking to fare better than those from “Belfast” and “The Power of the Dog,” who all went home empty-handed last year. At this point, only eight of the previous 106 films that were nominated for both Oscars have pulled off dual wins. Based on their impressive precursor runs, the current hopefuls are uniquely well-positioned to join the club, but they do face a great challenge in overcoming one another.
Like “The Power of the Dog,” each of these two new films has a three-way stake in the supporting races. Those representing “The Banshees of Inisherin” are actress Kerry Condon and actors Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, while those on the “Everything Everywhere All at Once...

For all the changes “Dancing with the Stars” is undergoing for Season 29, it’s still as predictable as ever. Because “Tiger King” star Carole Baskin is performing the paso doble to Survivor‘s “Eye of the Tiger,” so you can cover that spot on your bingo card now. You know the show won’t be able to resist busting out “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “Roar” and “What’s New Pussycat?” the rest of the season. Will she go the whole season (or however long she lasts) dancing to feline-themed songs? Probably.
ABC has unveiled all 15 routines and songs for Monday’s season premiere. Still Tba: the celebrities’ pro partners, which will be unveiled live on the show. Nelly gets to salsa to his own song, “Ride Wit Me,” but Aj McLean will not perform to a Backstreet Boys tune yet. He does, however, have the jive, and as any Bsb fan knows,...

In 1934 Al Christie directed Going Spanish, a 19 minute farce billed as “An Educational Musical Comedy.” The movie is notable only for the film debut of Bob Hope whose wisecracks about the movie’s incompetence provoked Christie to cancel the comedian’s contract. Another filmmaker made his mark with the irascible producer too—Norman Z. McLeod got his feet wet working as title cartoonist for a series of silent films known as Christie’s Comedies. Pretty soon McLeod would be dealing with funny men in the flesh; W.C. Fields, the Marx Brothers, Danny Kaye and Hope himself. He would direct—and with those particular artists, “manage” might be a more appropriate term—some of the greatest comedies to emerge from the studio system.
