This is my daughter's favourite show. It's not just science, it's social issues, psychology and a lot of fun. It's brilliantly made and the presenter is awesome!

Beautifully cast - expertly researched

I am a geek.

I am interested in science and find stuff like this to be candy.

So, in a way, it is just up my alley.

I love the way the show gives the presenter interesting ways of explaining things. I also love how bright and cheerful the thing is.

Excellent show

I really enjoy watching it with my 10 yo, for the ppl who criticize the science I think it's accurate enough for children from 7-13 without getting too boring and curious kids can always discuss topics and investigate further if they want. Pharrell is a producer, that was a surprise.

Good but misleading sometimes
prashmimdb5 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
My kids love the show but the episode about the germs is misleading. Bad germs help improve body's immune system. The more the body is exposed to bad germs the better it's immunity. Ask any doc. So to teach kids that shaking hands is not good is misleading and throwing away your dish cleaning sponge after a single use is not environment friendly. Kids if you're reading this please don't throw away cleaning sponge. Just put it in microwave for 90 secs and that would kill all the bacteria on it. Today's cleaning sponges are mostly made of plastic and they will not disintegrate when it's eventually thrown into ocean and dumped into earth!

Spoiled by sexism
wallist-8334317 January 2022
My 5 year old son loves this show and learns a lot from it. The host, the scientists and pretty much everyone smart on the show is female, which is fine. He's not watching the show thinking about gender at all.

But often, the host makes comments to the effect of girls being somehow special. She wears a t-shirt that says "FEMALE EQUALS FUTURE". Why is this necessary in a show about science?

We're no longer comfortable with him watching it as we don't want the idea that he is lesser than someone else because of his gender being conveyed to him, no matter how subtle it might be. There are plenty of other great shows for him to watch and learn from without being exposed to ideological propaganda.

I loved Brain Games and have been looking for something to fill that void. Even though this is aimed at kids, I really enjoyed watching it. It was really well filmed, the explanations were clear, and I loved the magic segments. Highly recommended!

Great educational show
hawke-1909316 November 2018
There was a show on the Discovery channel very similar to this. But this one is geared towards a wider audience. With fun little experiments and facts about what is being talked about. Brainchild is an all ages kind of show.

My 9yo daughter has watched each episode multiple times and loves it. She finally got me to watch with her and I'm really impressed! I'm learning a LOT and it's presented in an amazing and engaging way. The host is adorable - an unapologetically smart young woman whose charisma comes through the screen. Love this for us both!

Great Show, Poorly cast
jaylela13 January 2019
I watch this show with a couple of girls with special needs that I care for and it seems to me that Netflix had an opportunity to cast a real woman of science as the "Science Friend" but instead chose someone with (from my research) only a Visual Arts degree. It is a great show and very interactive, I just wish they hired someone who the girls could look up to in the science world.

Cute but sexist
oside-919619 January 2020
My son and I were really getting in the show. The cast is engaging, funny and talented. However after watching a few shows I could not help but notice the overt emphasis on women and girls. Annoyingly so! The wo(man) on the street challenges and games seem to show women as most creative etc. The constant onslaught of getting women higher representation in STEM fields has jumped the shark. Women should do what they want to do - and they do! My daughter is in engineering school and I hate to break it to everyone, but it's still heavily dominated by men. In the school of biology it's the reverse.

Harmful: unscientific trying to look scientific
mauriciofernandogerhardt6 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The show tries to teach science to kids, but in less then 5 minutes, I caught 2 lies already: Lie #1) Sponge kills. It tells a woman that she shouldn't clean her dishes with a sponge because it's filled with germs, and that would spread diseases to her family. Truth: Yes, there are germs on a sponge, but being obsessed with eliminating germs/ bacteria is what's causing a lot of modern day allergies. There are more germ cells living in a human body than there are human cells. We must live in harmony. The lack of bacteria diversity causes problems, so having some bacteria is actually a good thing. Lie #2: Dominant species. It says that the dominant species on Earth is germs. First of all, it doesn't establish a definition for what is dominance (which is a generic term). Truth: Second, bacteria isn't just one species, there are trillions of it.

low-grade Brain Games
holahima4 November 2018
Two seconds into the first episode and I'm assaulted with dialogue and animation styles trying too hard to imitate teenagers like they're an alien race. The show looks at basic scientific principles, but there's poor explanation to why they exist. The oversimplification of them makes it no different from what we already know. One or two times there are surprising facts, but irritating insertion of soundboard SFX every 2 seconds detracts from the content.

For a kinder-gardener, this might be insightful. For anyone else, Bill Nye is a safer bet.

Literally awful... dictionary version of literally
kkisloski5 November 2018
I love the show Brain Games, so I decided to check this out to see if it would be interesting for my son (the previews made it look like a Brain Games geared towards kids/teens). It. Was. Terrible. Annoying, obvious and uninteresting. I made it through the first episode and had to shut it off. Don't waste your time. I never take the time to write reviews unless something is amazing or to save others from suffering. Please, save yourself. Watch anything else.
