Above Average Lifetime Movie
carolynocean3 March 2021
I found this movie very interesting, decent enough storyline , and well acted. I was curious as to know where it was going, so kept with it to the end, however, I have to say that I was a little disappointed at the quick " wrap up " finale. A little anti climatic for me. But still , not a bad movie all in all.

I think the sisterhood have been revieing this!

No, just no. This was so bad and obvious that it failed to engross at every turn. The acting was O.K at est but there were so many truly awfully acted moments the mediocre stuff was completely white washed... I get that it is a lifetime movie, but it is one of the weakest i have seen... Watch if you are really bored, have a broken leg and the remote is the other side of the room!

Bad plot and ending, pretty much a movie about greed

Warning: Spoilers
So managed to make it to the end of the movie however it left a lot to be desired even for lifetime movies. The Ashley character was completely fine when things were going her way but then all of a sudden develops morals after agreeing to launder money as payment for all of her breaks. Her sister Jasmine probably would not have saved her or said no to beating her a second time if Ashley hadn't given her the inheritance she wanted. Basically every character was greedy, Desiree, Ashley, Jasmine, the ex husband. And its ironic too that Ashley turned so fast on the sisterhood that she didn't even have to join meanwhile she was more than fine with being a doormat for her boss and not turning him in for his advances. Ashley would have happily laundered money for a male boss and the promotion she wanted....again greedy.

Sistas In Da Hood...
rossmcfarlen24 September 2020
Superb TV flick (nothing fluffy here hence no need to insert the word 'chick') that uses the rarely employed setting of an all-female cult (attracting divorced and separated women frustrated with their daily domestic struggles and strapped finances) as a backdrop for a suspenseful thriller that features skilful twists & turns along the route. The cult attracts the vulnerable and delivers nice benefits...at a price!

If you can imagine a sorority for down to earth women where the books are cooked to keep the leader/bestselling-author under the radar away from the IRS, then you can see where this is going.

Nicely played by the three leads (Lisa Berry as the nice-but-nasty 'Queen' has a compelling presence; as do Claire Coffee and Siobhan Murphy as the real sisters with a dysfunctional history of codependency) and all the supporting characters.

I'm surprised more TV movies are not made at this standard and proves that a good setting with strong contrasting characters can prove very entertaining and engaging, particularly with a good plot and realistic dialogue.

I'd like to watch this again - it's that good.

Surprisingly good!

I can't say that I'm an expert on Lifetime movies -- I find the majority to range between cheesy and simply bad, but I caught Secrets of the Sisterhood by accident and was immediately and surprisingly hooked. The acting was excellent all around. The writing had great characters especially the villain with lots of twists and turns. I was on the edge of my seat the entire way through. I wish all made for TV movies were this good.

Women Helping Women

Warning: Spoilers
The best line in "Secrets of the Sisterhood" is when the protagonist, Ashley "Ash" Shields is being held captive by Desirée Holt, the head of the secret Sisterhood. Ash is about to be beaten to a pulp for her betrayal of the society. But the savvy Desirée gives a final instruction to her goon: "Not the face!!!" At this point, Ash is only being given a warning about the power of her "sisters."

The filmmakers developed a great set of characters with very clear motivations. The two sisters, Ash and Jasmine, are drawn to the Sisterhood because their lives have been in disorder. Desirée and the sisters offer an apparent solution to all of their problems. Unfortunately, Ash and Jasmine get themselves in too deep, and they cross the line with Jasmine becoming one of Desirée's goons and Ash inheriting the job of cooking the books.

Jasmine had always been the wayward daughter of the family. But, as the film opens, she has been "clean and sober" for nine months, due to the influence of the Sisterhood. But unbeknownst to Ash, Jasmine takes on the role of a prostitute, having an affair with Ash's boss, then blackmailing him to raise Ash's salary. It is at that point in the film that Ash recognizes she must take drastic action against Desirée.

Two especially intriguing characters were Ash's ex-husband Rick and his wife Julie, a cop. Ash used her influence with the Sisterhood to pay off an arbitrator so that Ash would receive full custody of her daughter Grace. Yet there is decency and even a quality of forgiveness on the part of Rick, who is dedicated to his daughter and is somehow able to find a way to support Ash in her time of need.

There was a chilling credibility in the character of Desirée who presides over the ritual initiation of Ash into the Sisterhood, then methodically takes over her devotee's life. To the end, Desirée confidently asserts that against any odds, the Sisterhood will not die. And the line is spoken with a steely determination to remain true to the sisters' motto: "Women Helping Women!"

Great movie

As someone who watches every new movie shown on Lifetime, this was one of the best Lifetime movies I have seen. I thought the acting was very good and I especially enjoyed the actress playing the part of Desiree. I highly recommend this movie.

It's good to be queen...

Whaaaat! This was really good! I love Lifetime movies. They're a genre all their own. Most of the time I have them on in the background while I'm doing something else. I almost always find myself on my phone while watching. Some are hard to sit through because they get stale durning the middle but this one really held my interest from start to finish. I would've like a stronger ending but it was still pretty entertaining. All of the actors were very strong especially the leader, Desiree (sp?) I was thoroughly entertained by her. I didn't get bored once!

Wow! This is a great thriller right from the start! Claire Coffee is the perfect leading lady too so beautiful yet so smart. I won't give away the story but it is fascinating and had me on the edge of my seat throughout!!

Conquered and receptive

For a low-budget TV movie, I was won over by the story, the constant suspence, the script and by the credible actors well directed by the director. It's not perfect... but I loved it from beginning to end.
