"An intricately crafted crime drama, sans a gripping screenplay"
ConfusedRoulette13 October 2019
The film mainly revolves around a female police officer. She is confronted by a complicated crime case which brings in several challenges for her, even to the extent of changing her entire life as a police officer. How exactly she tackles the case, uncovering the trail of truth, lies and uncertainty forms the crux of the story.

The film has a very meticulous look and feel to it. Each and every scene in the film has a rich tone attached to it. The cinematography is absolutely brilliant and plays the main role in keeping the viewer from getting off-board. It is almost on par with Hollywood when it comes to this department. However, the screenplay is not gripping enough to keep you hooked to the screen. It is very slow paced and almost feels like the film never takes off.

The story however has its own sophistication and the right qualities, forming an intelligent climax which impresses the viewer. The casting of the film is wonderfully done and it's Nithya Shri's show all through the film. The model turned actor has given a splendid performance. Her looks and mannerisms displayed in the film are admirable.

All in all, this is an intricate piece of work comprising of some impressive performances. However the not so gripping screenplay and slow pace hinders the film considerably from standing out as a riveting crime drama.

Not a Blind Review.
OnjiMooteDaMarle16 March 2020
Here's the thing. Just because the film has no super stars or it is a simple thriller doesn't make it a breakthrough or any good if not great film.

Quite a lot of problems from a writer's perspective. I'll get to what's good later.

The lead actress looks clueless in every scene. Her wide eyes at times and shimmering eyes at times made me laugh at odd times. She never has the body language of a police officer. There's a lot of characters wasted in the film and under development of characters, unnecessary characters wasting the moments in the film. Sudharani's character, her husband, prakash belavadi, his wife, the Commissioner all have badly written characters. The first half is so slow and nothing happening. The very beginning of the film until the film title appears on screen has been tried to be shown as a thrilling beginning but has nothing to be thrilling about and hence a very badly opened film for a thriller.

The first case she works on is left to the dogs the moment a second one arrives. The connection takes way too long to connect and thus there is disconnection between the two cases because of the time gap. I have no idea who the police are beating in one scene. Throughout the film, her boss is wearing police uniform but she isn't. What the hell is this?

As for the 2nd half, sudharani and her husband's characters are so calm though they are facing a probable tragedy. The guy who traces calls looks like he is listening to music on his laptop. I laughed at that. A crime branch officer going here and there and asking questions and demanding things with citizens without actually introducing herself - Seriously? What's with the commissioner's hatred towards the lead character, why was he speaking to her rudely throughout the film, from the very beginning to the very end? So many continuity errors in acting too.

The climax is so, so cliche and the villain is so calm and has no power in acting, character and the dialogues are so badly written. Sudha Rani's acting/ charcter is so bad. Even after knowing who did what, the cop lady doesn't do anything. What the hell is going on? The final walk is a walk of shame - a cop who never wore make-up (on screen) wears lipstick, who never wore the police uniform, picks up her uniform and walks. Why?

As for whats good, is that unlike most Kannada films, this film has no 'raising voice' dialogues, the lead character is a fresh face, that's it.

The scene just before the interval is so bad, I wanted to quit watching but I went on because this was more like an indie film and I wanted to give it a go. I so badly wanted this film to work because such films prove we don't need the 'super stars' whose films have only style and some horribly written dialogues but this film was such a disappointment.

pranavagbhujang11 October 2019
Amazing job by team Vrithra! I liked how the course of the movie slowly built up and the way it ended. And also, I'd like to appreciate the camera work. Each character in the movie just felt right. Overall, it was thrilling 😎. Thanks for the wonderful experience. Hoping for "Vrithra" success party to happen soon!

Great Attempt, Must Watch
viks-joshi15 February 2020
Kannada movie industry needs more movies like this, story oriented, investigative.. Sad that there is no much promotion and buzz for movies like this.. Though it could have been even better but full marks to the attempt.. Must watch..

Haven't seen/heard a more stupid story
sahanavadwa-4452720 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers ahead. The movie begins with a female sub inspector demeaning report filing at the police station. All she wants are the juicy adventurous cases. Soon after she is handed her first big case. An apparent suicide. Identifying the suicide victim quickly takes her on different paths, some of which are simply not relevant such as why the victim was involved in buying people's Aadhaar cards. It could as well just be a jibe at a political incident that happened in RR Nagar. There are really silly scenarios such as a child giving clues when no other adult in the entire locality can. One investigative path leads her to a wealthy builder's house bringing in a new kidnapping angle to the film. The protagonist decides she can take the money to the kidnapper instead of the victim's mother as demanded by the kidnapper. I mean.. Is this inspector for real? Mind you, she knows the kidnapper is smart. So why take a completely dumb move? When the protagonist is alone with the kidnapper's aide she doesn't even want to throw a punch or inform her team.. Nothing. She just let's 1 crore rupees vanish.. Like it's nothing. There is no team following her. Nothing. This movie demeans the police department at every alternate scene, I tell you. Ultimately after hundred clues have been served by her team she just has to finish the sentence to find "vrithra". I mean it's not like she has to play connect the dots or play scramble and jigsaw to find it.. It's just like "duh".. So much for someone who hates filing reports (which also is "mysteriously (not)" linked to the case), and wants to solve the biggest case on the planet. Haha! There is also a big joke where vrithra throws a book with blank pages and all - but trust me it doesn't even help anywhere with the story except ill-advise the audience about what vrithra means. At the end she is convinced by vrithra's 2 minute Robin Hood speech and leaves him be. The kidnapped girl was saved by vrithra earlier and is in vrithra's house. She was kidnapped by the suicide victim who was in turn asked to do so by her own father to stage a sensation so he can win the upcoming elections. I was waiting for the aadhaar card link to be explained here, but nope. At this point the director goes like - "how to explain to the audience the reason for suicide? Oh I know.. I'll just make the victim record a nice but illogical video about his reasons and send it to the father of the girl". Back in Vrithra's house the daughter is like - "I was so close to dad blah blah". I wonder why her dad didn't tell her about the staging instead of traumatizing her.. She decides to go her own way and the inspector is like "OK good luck". The inspector sure was bowled over by Mr. Robin Hood to leave the girl there!! At this point I was clinging onto that last string of hope. Yes - and that was to see what report she would now file. But oh no - a mega twist! The inspector resigns. Not to turn into another Robin Hood herself but because she thinks she can solve any case and help people without her job status. I mean are you kidding me?!?! I am amazed how I lasted 2 hours. For that one must applaud the director!

amateur movie
lohitroyal21 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie could have been a good short film, if the duration was less. Looks like casting Prakash Belavadi in movies to give an initial impression of a good content movie is a trend. Prakash Belavadi doesn't play a key role in this movie. in fact, that role was not needed at all. The role gives a one liner motivational dialogue to the Protagonist (indira). Indira's mother could have been used for that purpose. Let me talk about the plot. Movie revolves around a cop (indira) aspiring to solve a criminal case, but has she been looked down upon by her senior. Eventually she gets a suicide case to handle, and because of her aspiration and curiosity she tries to connect dots and later it leads to a different case altogether. It might sound interesting when I concise the middle part of the movie. in fact, the middle portion is kind of interesting and well written. But, the screenplay has bunch of loopholes. in the beginning they use the name of person called 'Munirathna'. Munurathna is a Kannada film producer and was also recently elected as MLA in the recent election. During the election, lots of adhaar card or voter id's of people from his constituency was found in his office (may be in a sting operation guess). This real incident has been used in this movie to create curiosity and also in couple of shots in which Indira's board in which she has pinned various aspects related to the suicide case that she is handling. But the Adhaar card scam has nothing to do with the plot. unnecessarily few scenes regarding this has been added. There is a kidnap case that comes into the story. finally indira cracks the case but she doesn't arrest the culprit, after listening to his moral speech. Her act is not justified. they should have had few more scenes to convince the audience about this act of Indira. Motive of another culprit in this kidnap case sounds so stupid. The only place the movie scores point is the background music, you can call it apt or not bad. cinematography is also good only in terms of how different it looks infer shots. Its been done by a amazing photographer Audiphotography (his Instagram handle). But the camera angles, movement doesn't add any value to the screenplay. Also I observed a blunder in the very first shot of the film. The keys were on the left side of the pant of the security guard but when the camera focuses on the key bunch it moves to the right of his pant. Casting has gone completely wrong in this film. I wasn't satisfied with anyone's acting baring Tarun Sudhir. I have not considered as Sudharani's character and Prakash belavadi's character as they don't add any value to the script. Indira's driver/assistant wears a head constable badge, but he is too young to become a head constable. Also his uniform is lame, the head constable badge looks like it is printed on the sleeves and he rolls his half sleeve as if he is walking the ramp with a cop's costume. in short its an amateur movie.

Technical Masterpiece

Beautifully directed movie with equally stunning cinematography. Supporting cast do really well, story keeps you hooked into throughout. Both the veterans give you money's worth. Great debut by the lead actor. Direction and Camera work seem really mature and experienced for a debut. Overall a good debut package! Worth a watch!

this director deserves oscar
manojvg1 March 2024
After watching this movie I have hell lot of questions on my mind

1 . Why actress is not wearing uniform in her whole investigation.

2 . If she didn't wear thats okay, but why she is returning her uniform directly to commissioner😅?

3 . What is the relationship between vrithra and movie characters..?

4 . Why villain throws books on coffee table, that too empty ..?

5 . Why kidnapped girl drown same image in her home . No relation with story..?

6 . What is the use of aadhar card in this movie and why he collected it..?

7 . Why this actress is not able to capture that person in interval..?

8 . The normal suicidal case that to not suspicious. But lead actress whats to solve this case..?

9 . If father can informed her daughter about kidnapping does any difference happens..?

10 . Why villain is keeps gupthas daughter in her home instead of sending and waiting for police to come..?he can return money to guptha but he didn't.

We can send this movie oscar in worst movie award category.how can some one choose actress like this . She didn't have minimum body language as a poliçe.

All side character did have any connection over the story. They come and go not do anything in the movie.

Worst worst worst....✌🏻

It haf been a while since i had watched a kannada cinema and came across the trailer of Vrithra. It was a very interesting trailer without giving away anything about the storyline, i was excited and wanted to watch the movie, man i must say my mind was blown. The story revolves around Indra and the first case that she gets, the movie does not deviate from this story, no songs, romance and fights. Brilliant execution and fabulous bgm.

Engaging tale underlining the current situation
brggautham23 August 2020
The title Vrithra had caught my attention as I knew about the mythological character and seat for the movie and watched it on Amazon prime video, was really surprised by the story telling and how mature the narration was. Hope to see more such content in Kannada
