Tiny casino

The most unrealistic part of this show is the outside of the boat does not fit the inside! Come on!

V.good episode for a set up to the whole season. Though did not understand why she did what she did last 5 minutes.

Never let a good crisis go to waste
bosporan23 April 2022
Ozark is back with its compelling blend of family fights, cartel coercion and piles of cash. A terrific opener with Wendy and Marty in therapy, yet manipulating each other at every opportunity. This will, no doubt, have dangerous and complex consequences.

Julia Garner is a force-of-nature as pocket-rocket Ruth, with her blend of intelligence, acerbic dialogue and aggression.

Business as usual for the Byrde's - a fabulous season opener.

Warning: Spoilers
The only thing I have to say about this first episode is about the casino. The exterior of the "casino" does not correspond to the interior. The boat looks very small, other than that I don't have much more to say, I liked the episode and I'm looking forward to seeing the next ones.

Taking Risks Can Get You Burned

This was a great opener that set up the scene perfectly for what's to come. Various plots are taking place and this time Marty might be facing his biggest threat yet and he dosen't even know it.

STOP making us listen to people eating!
drbarbc-526-51746628 March 2020
Overall, I liked season 3. However, why did they put the mike so close to the actors every single time they eat? Many people find the sound of chewing to be rather disgusting. The solution is closed captioning & the mute button, which we used much more frequently than any other shows we watch.

The Lightning Strike at the end
nikomagda11 February 2022
When you see that Lightning Bolt strike at the very end of the episode because of what Ruth did... You know a storm is coming and I love the surprised Ozark brings at the end of each episode.

Best Netflix show and a masterpiece

Warning: Spoilers
Ozark is off to a frightening start as the third season opens to a violent scene in Mexico. How'd we end up in Mexico? I have no idea, but I'm sure there will be some explanation for this as we get further into the season. We see a man violently murder a cashier, strap a bunch of explosives onto a group of men in the back, and walk out of the building as it blows up-throwing money everywhere. The public is ecstatic to grab all the cash flying around in the air but little do they know there is another explosive nearby that is about to take their lives. And just like that, Ozark season 3 is off to a wild start. When we catch up with the gang, we first see what Ruth is up to. She's in her element operating the casino and trying to keep a lockdown on casino activities. But Marty has another plan in mind-stay laser-focused on the high rollers. She's expanding the business in her mind which is why she pitches Marty on the idea to talk to Helen about getting more casinos and businesses. If they can keep these multiple businesses operating legally, it'll cast a shadow of safety over them, so to speak. But Wendy is thinking bigger than one might think. Navarro, a very dangerous cartel man, is who she has set her sights on. He can put a share towards this business which they can put into a trust. If things don't end up working out in their favor, at least he'll have that, right? Ruth gets in a scuffle with Frank Jr. As the episode comes to a close, which will definitely present some issues for them as we get more into this season of Ozark. Side note: How amazing is Julia Garner? I love her as Ruth-she shines more than anyone else and deserves every award out there for her role. Near the closing credits of Episode 1, "Wartime", Wendy visits their old house and reminisces - she places the family portrait upside down. Wendy is leaving her old life well and truly behind.

Disappointed 🙁
kefakevin7 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Season three, episode one started really well, until the last few minutes. I mean, how the hell did Ruth manage to kick Frank Jr. out of the boat like he weighs 10kg. And Wendy, what was she doing in her former house touching everything without even wearing gloves. Also, why is Marty rejecting the most logical solution? Isn't he supposed to be smart? Anyway, I'm hoping it will get better because it is really good if you shut your brains while watching.

This is Ozark.
caballero-1910 January 2022
Ozark for me is a tv show whose deals with plotting in its own way, the writing in the series might not be the best of all but it's solid, deep and cynical. Pure and funny elements and of course intensity is real, not because something blew up in that precise moment but because that is what it's going to happen, meanwhile, let us feel that this is a victory for Wendy and a defeat for Martyn.

P. S, The shots were marvelous and gorgeous, better than the previous ones. I was shocking to see such beautiful pictures.

I love gambling so you would think the idea of the season revolving around a casino would be great, but it was just so-so. This show gets a lot of unwarranted hype in my humble opinion.

Oh dear, what happened here?
brucewood9916 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Was this really the same writers that wrote season 1 and 2?

There were so many false notes in this first episode.

A therapist, who presumably is empathetic and has to get by on her reputation for trustworthiness and honesty nevertheless takes a small bribe from Marty to completely manipulate his wife, and enjoys it as an 'experiment'? How could this possibly be in her interests or character?

Jonah has made $6000 already this month, and yet he is extremely excited when his sister buys him a drone and promises to pay her back? Why didn't he just buy himself a drone if he likes them that much? What's he spending his $6000 of disposable income on if not things that he likes?

Marty is resistant to Wendy's idea of legitimate expansion when that has to be the most sensible course for them to take? What objection can he possibly have to it? We don't find out because he or she storm off before the writers have to think about the details of the manufactured conflict.

Each one of these in itself could perhaps be passed off with a shrug, but there's so many of them that it's a warning sign of what's to come.

The writing in seasons 1 and 2 was magnificent. Marty's speech when his friend mutters the platitude that 'everything happens for a reason' and Marty counters that there's just causes and effects and you get what you get. The sensitive treatment of Buddy's death.

All that has been replaced by sloppy (hurried?) writing in which the rich surprises of real interactions have been exchanged for the cheap surprises of characters being presented in one way who then violate those expectations a few moments later.

Come on folks, you wrote seasons 1 and 2, you have brilliance in you. Please don't settle.

Dialed in performances
Jack_C_17 February 2022
Season 1 and 2 are masterpieces. Season 3 saw Bateman transform into a cold drug lord with almost zero expression and dialed in performances. The script feels forced, with ridiculous plot twists that would have never happened in earlier seasons.

I really wanted to turn it off, but I was invested in the characters and made myself finish.

Season 4 is much much better. Suffer through this season, and you will be rewarded.

Why all of a sudden...
nemesis-8828 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Why all of a sudden "Wendy", who was opposed to and indignated by this whole drug money laundering, offers an expansion to a Mexican drug lord? Why all of a sudden that Mexican drug lord tortures his own right hand woman over her divorce? Why all of a sudden their son makes money in computer gaming? Why all of a sudden mobster's son can't behave himself in his father's place of business? Why all of a sudden this crazy woman goes to her former house and vandalizes another family's life? Why all of a sudden this show turned so moronic?

Season 3 is very bad, so disappointed!
kalkwarf-randy27 March 2020
Realy disappointed about season 3! Script is so bad compared to the first 2 seasons. Wendy saying all kind of criminal activity through the telephone when they are observed by the FBI for running the casino. These kind of things and faults never happened in the first two seasons, what made this Ozark so good. Very disappointed!!!

Brother review only

Why?? Running out of story? He's annoying AF. I cringe every time I see this dude on the screen and why I went back to the very first episode serving as his introduction to write this review. Terrible decision to bring him in.
