Boring
susan_warr20 October 2019
This movie is slow. Also some directors need to teach actors how to carry take out cups of coffee. The cups must be empty the way they swing them around. Also when Julie makes a hot cup of tea Kelly picks it up like it was cold and tips the cup up too steep. I guess it was empty. It is details like this that ruin a movie. Three actors from The Young and The Restless in this movie are very good actors. The Young and the Restless is one of the worst shows for having empty cups of coffee and tea.

TV movie level drama and acting.
colliervillekids26 June 2021
This is like watching a Mediocre Lifetime movie. Mediocre to bad acting and the story line is slow and writing predictable. It's fine to put on while you're doing other things. Just don't try to make a movie night out of it or expect anything more than low bar made for TV drama. You don't ever care about any of the characters or believe anything it's trying to sell.

Not Bad, But Seen this story many times
keithnayo2 October 2019
I'm a fan of Lifetime movies, but they've done so many stories of obsession and crazed stalkers. This movie is about a woman grieving over the "death" of her daughter but when another young lady who is the same age as her daughter comes in as her roommate, she becomes obsessive and controlling. Can't say the acting was at all good but to me, it was average. It could have been done a little bit better.

DO NOT waste your time...or brain cells.
rbradburke-4997310 October 2019
This is THE WORST movie I've seen in a long time. It's forced script and manufactured tension was so shallow and stupid, I couldn't stomach watching but half. Characters go from one mindset to the polar opposite in literally seconds. "Sure, come over and live with me. Oh wait, no I've changed my mind so get lost. Wait! Ok, move in! And by the way, you are welcome to change the decor!" How stupid! Or this one: "Don't be suspicious of my landlord. She's GREAT!" Then in the VERY NEXT SCENE to landlord, "What are you doing in my room while I'm gone? NEVER do that again!" And none of this in an "I'm conflicted" sort of way but rather in a way that makes you ask 'is there no director on set watching how this schizophrenic disaster of a plot plays out?' No context! No development! Just "I love you....wait, I think you follow Charles Manson....but maybe you aren't so bad so let's go clubbing!" PASS!

Don't waste your time

So predictable. Poor, over the top acting and story line. This movie had me cringing throughout the entire thing. So many ridiculous scenes that are so far from what would happen in reality. Give this one a miss.

Bad Acting Direction Script
mgwilcox3 November 2019
This is just plain bad in every way and on every level Even the sets are poor. Starting to see a lot of this garbage on Netflix and Amazon prime. I could find nothing interesting or redeemable in this dialogue acting direction all about as bad as anything I have seen in a very long while .I was unable to finish as it was to foolish to continue watching such horrfic mess even to see it to the end having invested (wasted ) some of my time on this laughable piece of work. So bad it could not even be thought of as a campy bad movie I am guessing the budget was less than 1,000.00 somebody had generous parents because only a parent would have put up money for this wreck. Note no spoilers because there was nothing to spoil

Worth some tedium
kencress-7915715 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is not perfect... it's delivers a large serving of contradictory statements and behaviors that force the viewer to just accept the fact that, hey, somebody screwed up with the script, nobody caught it during filming, and the poor actors pretty much just had to recite the lines they were being paid to, in spite of not being cohesive. The back-and-forth of our main girl seeing her host as great, then scary, then great, then scary, then great, then scary, then great, then scary... well, maybe this was intentional on the writer's part, but it didn't really work on film... it made me just sort of want to do some rubber-chicken face-slaps on the main character, and tell her that she needs to pay a lot more attention to all of the evidence---that she does indeed see!---that host-woman is loooo-hhhhhoooo-ney tunes. But, hey! The fact that I felt the desire to do the whole rubber-chicken thing shows that I DID "get into" the movie! Indeed, it was suspenseful... but almost monotonously suspenseful, if that's a thing, because one sort of spends the entire time being pretty sure that something really bad is juuuuuust about to happen. Okay, spoiler from hell: I liked the ending. I'm a sucker for a happy ending, especially since the modern, artistic thing is to always end with a dark reminder that things always end poorly. Not this one! I was glad to see the psycho end up getting carted off to the morgue, with the "victims" surviving. Cheesy, sure, but every now and then I just like to see a simple, clean, good-guys-win ending. It took some effort to get through... but as the final credits rolled, I found myself glad to have endured.

Ignore low ratings! Worth watching!
rossmcfarlen10 February 2020
Beautifully crafted and engaging TV thriller where the main protagonists are painted in shades of grey rather than in simplistic black and white strokes.

People are complicated and the writer doesn't shy away from examining the contradictory vagaries of human nature and the fragile connections humans make with each other. Example: the kooky and psycho landlord/doctor also happens to be charming and generous and knows how to enjoy herself on the dance floor. She also happens to be chilly, with a ruthless streak.

The young woman who comes to live with her is also an interesting character who is experiencing relationships difficulty on being diagnosed with cancer, but though ill, is sufficiently feisty not to be a complete doormat for the Psycho Landlady!

I found the whole yarn engrossing from start to finish. The story (and plot twists), the dialogue, and acting are well above average. I know dreck when I see it and this movie does not fall into this category at all.

I gave it an 8/10 as it's well above average TV movie fare.

Fairly watchable formula
phd_travel3 October 2019
No surprises here but it's fairly watchable to see how this formula obsession thriller unfolds. A youngish recovering cancer patient rents a room from a single lady doctor. The doctor lost her child years before so she obsessed over her and starts to isolate her from the girl's ex boy friend and bestie. It's okay to watch. The wacko isn't too homicidal. Ok for one watch but not one of the better ones.

Even The Title Is Bad !
carolynocean23 March 2021
If you are in need of cheering up , or just want a good laugh, then this movie is for you ! Great entertainment , but for the wrong reasons . Do watch if, you want to see some seriously bad acting, bad directing, listen to some terrible background music throughout, and lastly, listen to a really bad script , not to mention that the storyline itself is just ridiculous ! I think that I have covered everything here, but, even though it was SO bad I still watched it through to the end, just because it was so hilarious. I wont advise you NOT to watch it , as I said before, go for it if you need a good laugh !!

Just no!
tiffo-8321721 May 2021
The only reason I watched this all the way through is because I was completely procrastinating doing a work project. It wasn't so bad it was good, it was so bad it was bad. Basically a really really horrible soap opera and movie form trying to be a thriller. Even the beverage cups were "unfulfilled."

A strange film
nightroses13 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It was a weird film. The creepy landlady has the supernatural ability to turn up without being heard. One minute she drove away in her car, the next minute she was inside her house standing in the upstairs room. Also in the club scene, her eyes were glowing red.

The concept of a young woman moving into a place while still recovering from cancer and radiation therapy is okay, there are many broken elements that don't make sense. At the very beginning, the landlady is grieving the loss of her tenant and friend who just died in hospital. Later we learn that the same woman poisoned her tenants to keep them sick so she can look after them forever. The character of the landlady is unreal.

Then we have more scenes that are off. Apart from that the sets were quite gorgeous but a shame the film didn't make logical sense.

Run! Run from this terrible movie!

HOME IS WHERE THE KILLER IS (TV Movie 2019)

BASIC PLOT: Nicole Turner (Kelly Kruger) can't seem to catch a break. She recently had a brush with medical malpractice, her cancer was missed, and she barely escaped with her life. On top of that, a recent break up with her boyfriend Kyle (Christopher Sean) has left Nicole vulnerable. Due to her illness, she lost her job and her apartment. She's expecting a windfall, but in the meantime, she needs a place to stay. Nicole finds what she thinks is the perfect temporary situation. She rents a room from Dr. Julie Thomason (Stacy Haiduk), and considers herself lucky to have found it. However, there's something odd about Dr. Thomason, and her house. There's a locked room, that's supposed to be empty. Nicole is sure she hears movement, and Julie talking to someone within. Is Dr. Thomason the blessing she seems, or is something else going on in the house?

WHAT WORKS: *Stacy Haiduk does a great job as the unstable ice queen, Dr. Julie Thomason.

*Psychology speaking, men do run from traumatic events. The two plot lines involving men bolting, Kyle running from Nicole's cancer, and Dr. Thomason's husband running from his daughter's illness, are both believe plotlines.

WHAT DOESN'T WORK: *Your protagonist should never be less likable than your antagonist. This is the case with Nicole Turner (Kelly Kruger), who is the least endearing protagonist I've seen in awhile. I don't know what Christina Welsh was thinking when she wrote this. There's no one to root for here, which makes this difficult to watch. Nicole cons Dr. Thomason into letting her stay by feigning a dizzy spell, she sneaks and pries into Dr. Thomason's person spaces, and finally, she steals one of Dr. Thomason's prescription pads. Nicole is the houseguest from hell, not the other way around. She's also a crappy friend, and girlfriend. There is nothing redeeming about this character, whose motivations are completely selfish.

TO RECOMMEND, OR NOT TO RECOMMEND, THAT IS THE QUESTION: *Run, run from this movie! Even if you like made-for-tv movies and melodramas, you'll hate this. It's a terrible jumble of selfish people you can't stand.

CLOSING NOTES: *This is a Made-For-TV movie, please keep that in mind before you watch\rate it. TV movies have a much lower budget, and so your expectations should be adjusted.

*I have no connection to the film, or production in ANY way. I am just an honest viewer, who wishes for more straight forward reviews. Hope I helped you out.

A Room With a View
lavatch22 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There is a cozy room in the beautiful home of Dr. Julie Thomason. The room seems ideal to Nicole Turner, a recovering cancer patient seeking affordable accommodations. In fact, the room is the symbol of the doctor's pathology where she will entrap vulnerable women in her lair.

"Home is Where the Killer Is" was an all-too-predictable thriller about a needy and deranged medical practitioner who doesn't believe in the Hippocratic oath. Emily and Alice were her two previous "tenants" who became casualties once they no longer wanted to remain under Julie's "care." Now, Nicole steps into the role of victim of an eccentric sociopath.

The most interesting relationship in the film was that of Nicole and her friend Lauren. There was an ebb-and-flow to that relationship that appeared to shatter when Lauren began an affair with Nicole's ex-boyfriend Kyle. But the bond of friendship endured to the bloody end.

While the acting was good, the subject matter was so dreary and the suspense so non-existent that this film became a static and formulaic experience of a lonely room with a view.

Worth watching.
pmtelefon30 October 2019
I am a semi-expert on Lifetime movies. I've been married a long time and we only have one television. My wife is a good sport but she's not going to spend all weekend watching James Bond movies. That said, yes, of course I've seen movies like "Home Is Where the Killer Is" before. The movie itself doesn't really standout except for its cast, especially its two leads. Kelly Kruger is dreamy and Stacy Haiduk is really dreamy. I couldn't take my eyes off either one of them. The two of them make this movie more memorable than it should be."Home Is Where the Killer Is" is an easy way to spend a school night.

Average.
billybdargan7 January 2020
It's your average paint-by-numbers thriller. If you come in with low expectations you won't be disappointed. Take it for what it clearly is. Predictable, average acting with only one real potential outcome. Nothing groundbreaking, but not so bad I wouldn't not recommend.

One thing I did enjoy was Stacy Haiduk. She has the wooden, cold style of acting that I appreciate in a film like this.

Kept Me Interested But So...
Mehki_Girl20 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Derivative and silly. Didn't anyone have a cellphone??? If you see some warning signs, why make just a cryptic comment and leave it at that? Okay, creepy stalker lady is sitting right there, so text your friend and tell her what you saw.

And why would one accusation about your BFF by a stranger make you doubt her? Yeah, sure, the script is using cancer to imply this makes you insecure, but it's not like she was bald and gaunt and looking horrible. But, your friend's concern about creepy lady, you pooh-pooh. Yet you see some weird behavior yourself.

Offer your friend a place to stay. Is she an orphan with no family? Don't you have any self esteem? Braincells? Secure in your own convictions? This woman can plant any seed of doubt?

Silly script to keep the action moving I guess. Basically, your Lifetime movie.

Okay...wouldn't call it amazing.
madisonstruck13 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay. To begin, I initially saw this film on Channel 5. Which I know meant that it couldn't be that great, because Channel 5 always puts on trash films that never make it onto SkyStore, Netflix, AmazonPrime, etc. So I didn't expect much from it. But I always enjoy a good thriller, so I was looking forward to watching it nevertheless. Now the plotline was better then I expected, and everyone else seems to be stating that they have seen these types of plotlines many times before in other films, but I thought it was pretty original and highly engaging; A troubled young woman with a background of frightening health problems, and whilst she is healthy again she rents a room in a what appears to be a lovely landlord. But she has an odd fixation on keeping her renters sick, so she can take care of them, to cure her deep guilt of failing to keep her now-deceased daughter alive. She stalks the renters' personal lives and keeps them ill so they need her for medicinal help. Very confusing at times, but altogether a good plotline. However, the acting is only average, and some of the scenes are over-acted at times. Also, there is a repetitive theme of the characters not being able to make up their minds. For example, Nicole. "Be nice to my landlord, she's one of my only friends," to "Oh my god! Stay out of my room," to "Awh you're so lovely, thanks for the dinner," to "You're a monster!" like....honestly! Can't they make up their minds? Moving on, the ending is quite disappointing. The insane landlord dies after getting smashed in the head with a vase. The renter and her best friend have a happy ending. It's all a bit soppy really. I love a bad and tragic ending, as I feel like it reminds you that similar situations don't always end in happy times. But altogether, I'm not sure. It sort of depends on what type of films you like, what themes you like, etc. I think it's an okay film but just needs improving some more. I hope this review helped you!
